You’re the GM for the Panthers who would you draft?

Recommended Posts

I could care less about how the draft site graded it (C+).  I got dinged for not taking positions of need they wanted me to take.  However, I would be so freaking happy with this draft!!!

Round 1 Pick 7: Derrick Brown, DT, Auburn (A+)
Round 2 Pick 8 (HOU): Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah (B+)
Round 3 Pick 5: Jeremy Chinn, FS/SS, S. Illinois (A-)
Round 3 Pick 26 (HOU): Logan Wilson, OLB/ILB, Wyoming (A-)
Round 4 Pick 7: Jordyn Brooks, ILB/OLB, Texas Tech (A)
Round 5 Pick 2: Van Jefferson, WR, Florida (A+)
Round 5 Pick 6: Leki Fotu, DT, Utah (A+)
Round 6 Pick 5: James Morgan, QB, FIU (A+)
Round 7 Pick 7: Keith Ismael, OG, San Diego St. (A-)

Traded down a few spots in the 2nd for an extra 3rd.  And no, Jefferson, Fotu and Ismael will not be available at those spots.  I can dream though, right?

DT and CB are the biggest needs imo.  Picking an OT at 7 makes it hard to get a starter at both those positioms

In the very slim scenario in which that simulation occurred, you have to take BPA.  Wills is it.  No Brown, no Okudah and no Simmons.  To make matters worse you can't find a trade partner to get out of #7.  Do you take Kinlaw over Wills?  I don't think you do.  Kinlaw is raw with upside, but Wills is polished and ready to step in immediately.

If anything, all the holes we have on this roster frees us up to take the BPA without feeling forced to pick based on need. Outside of starting RB, you can argue for an upgrade at virtually every position on our roster. Just pick the best football players available until we run out of picks.

Simmons and Okudah were already off the board, but I'm pretty happy with this draft.

I think our defense is likely to be all-time terrible this coming season either way. We had a terrible defense last year and we lost our best football player at every level of our defense. Addison was our best DL - gone. Luke was a our best LB and honestly the best LB in football - gone. Bradberry was our best DB - gone. There's no way to plug all the holes in that sieve in one off-season.

Why I express fixing Oline and at least make sure we block for the QB.  At least we might keep him alive this year in case we won't be able to get the QB of our dreams next year.

Yea, if it falls that way you have to.  I wasnt saying not to draft an LT in the first, its just when running simulations it makes it hard to find a starter at CB and DT when that happens.

Also if those 3 are gone, you gotta wonder who is there

Super excited with thos draft.

7- Okudah is a future star, sits down one side of the field. Also willing to hit/tackle on the edge. Brings a chip on his shoulder to the field.

38- Winnfield is a potential star as well. Great ball skills, NFL pedigree, and helps Okudah change the back end of this defense.

69- Davis will be solid for many years. Was happy and surprised he was there at this pick. Proud of this pick.

113- Biadasz gives us a potential anchor at Center. Another pick I am proud of, great value in the 4th.

148- Hodgins is a WR with potential, especially in Brady's offense. His size and ability to go up give us a redzone target.

152- Agim is a former DE moved inside late in his college career. Still has the quick first step of a DE, but the size of a DT. He needs to get stronger and work on his hands. A lot of potential as a developmental prospect.

184- Garvin has a lot of talent, but is his own worst enemy because he gets lazy. If this guy finds his motor, he will be a potential steal of the draft candidate looking back in a few years.

221- Taylor is a former stud at CB until a devastating injury. Has not yet regained his mobility and speed, but could potentially get back at some point. If not, maybe a move to safety is in the cards. Very tough kid who at the very least can contribute on special teams.

I'll take Kinlaw in the 1st. Michigan's Ruiz for interior OL help in the 2nd. I want press man corners so Miss State's Dantzler in the 3rd. Utah's Fotu as a NT in the 4th. Utah safety Julian Blackmon and Tulane press corner Bopete Keyes in the 5th. Boise WR John Hightower in the 6th and Colorado LB Davion Taylor in the 7th.

Solid--you and I are on the same page.  The last 3 picks are great values that could pay off in a year or two.  Getting Cushenberry in round 3 and Hall in round 4?  Shutup.  That is stupid good.

If a team falls in love with a LT, and they all float up to us at #7, there will be trade offers.
