There is no amount of mental gymnastics that will ever justify making the statement "we won in spite of him". I could cite a number of games where Cam Newton, Jake Delhomme, Brett Favre, John Elway and plenty of others looked like horsesh-t for a significant portion of the game, but somehow still did enough to win. That's football. The facts are: Bryce Young is an NFL quarterback. Bryce Young is legitimately capable of winning NFL games. Bryce Young deserves credit for his part in all of our wins under his leadership. ... All of these statements are validated by the simple truth of what we've seen with our own eyes. Is there still a valid argument to be made that Bryce should not be made our "franchise" quarterback. Yes there is, and I would remind everyone in this thread that I'm one of the people trying to make it. But... Those facts cited above cannot be discounted or disproved. They must be acknowledged, and any argument which doesn't loses touch with reality. And as a consequence of their validity, my attempts to articulate this argument become... ...significantly more difficult. I'll still make the argument, but that effort will not include any denial of the truth.

100% and I don't think anyone could argue that there has been a bigger supporter/fan of his than myself, so I'm not trying to talk down what he's done this year. But it's why I also have personally not brought up where he ranks in receiving yardage the last 2-4 weeks like a lot of people (and the team) has been doing. As while I know it's "true" and a cool thing to talk about, I always knew this bye was coming and his slim lead over the guys behind him will cause him to "tumble" down those rankings coming out of our bye. Even finishing 15th in the league in receiving yards as a rookie would be a MASSIVE accomplishment, particularly when his QB only has 3 games all year passing over 200 yards.

Go look at contract structure and come back to me, total dollars is irrelevant bad teams pay more up front and in guaranteed $$$ as well as having to hand out longer contracts. I'd say if you look at total $$ potential you are correct but if you look at the breakdowns there is definitely a small tax, add into this that bad teams tend to have the most cap space.

It's simple. Play the hot hand. Rico was hot. Play him. This week Chuba had it. Play him. You can tell pretty quick in a game who's feeling it and who isn't. I don't understand why everyone is trying to make this so damn complex.

If we somehow won our division and made the playoffs in 2025, I could understand the reasoning behind picking up the 5th year option on Young. However, I would let him know not to expect any renegotiations until the deal expires (end of 2027). If Bryce became crazy productive in year 4 and Carolina returned to the playoffs in 2026, I could understand the reasoning behind giving him a new deal prior to 2027. Under no circumstances would I make him the highest paid QB in the NFL. There is no way I'm letting BY get a deal that is going or "reset the market"...unless we win the SUPER BOWL. If he wants to "reset the market" you let him play out his final year and acquire or draft a QB prior to the 2027 season with the intent to start that person in 2028.

I think this is what's great about these forums. As I said, I thought of one but was waiting to see if it was mentioned. It was not. Instead, you brought up a bunch of great answers/memories that I hadn't thought of. Is there any real statistical evidence of this beyond anecdotal things like washed vets signing with the Chiefs or Pats every once in a while? it doesn't really hold up. Everyone gets paid in FA. Everyone gets paid on 2nd contracts. Its just how it is. Do you think Icky would make less in FA than he would with a Panther extension? Is that what's being implied?

Fitts fuged up the Burns contract by not taking the trade. He lost his leverage at that point. That level offer was for a top 3 complete edge rusher which Burns never was. It should never have been a debate. Take the Rams offer if we weren't going to pay Burns that type of contract. Icky should get paid. Where it will get interesting is when/if Bryce demands an extension after this year. If he follows the trend of 1st round QBs drafted and immediately starting for their team, and still with them, end of 3rd year is extension time. If Bryce demands his 45-50m per season and Morgan/Tepper pays it, I see Icky starting for someone else and us looking to the draft or FA market for a new LT.

Ickey has earned a good new contract obviously. We do need to draft a RT maybe in the 2026 draft.

People also forget even if Ickey isnt gross yet, hes A LOT BETTER THAN STREET FREE AGENTS.

Short of Young winning out and taking us to the playoffs, we need to aggressively go after a QB this off season. Alex Smith was a better player than Young but the chiefs still wanted to upgrade. That's what well run teams do.

At first during the Keep Pounding chanting during the drive, I was like quiet we're on offense ... however after a few plays/runs it felt almost like the offense was feeding off it. It was weird and great for sure.

There aren't discounts but teams that are as extremely bad as the Panthers were the last five years do pay more to lure free agents than playoff teams, even getting them in the door requires bigger "pay ranges" im sure.

Me too. Getting into a rhythm is so understated, but important in my opinion. I just think Chuba should be the lead back---definitely the short-yardage back---and Rico the change of pace guy. That being said, it's not a black and white proposition which is why I still think Canales is having a confusing time trying to balance.

I did say slightly.... and tbh if we can get anther 2 good throws from brycey in each Tampa game along with a healthy Mayes and Hunt... I could see us squeaking out a tampa sweep.... Hunt is one of maybe 3 linemen in the NFL who can block vita vea 1 on 1 our ground game will be very very hard to stop if hes healthy for the last 4 or possibly the playoffs.... (only think stopping it will be Young not being able to take advantage of 10 man boxes)

If by bad teams you mean 30-31 teams then alright. Discounts are very rare and typically only in special cases. The Panthers aren’t paying a special tax. Every team faces similar roster construction challenges with rising contract values.

I've watched that pass he took for a TD several times this week and amazed at how he just exploded past the defense. I know the closest ones to him were coming off blocks, but still, he went by them like they were backing up. Glad to see him getting back to his old self.

The entire offense rises or falls with Bryce. XL may be our most frustrating receiver but Bryce is Jekyll and Hyde.

We will see but I rather doubt it. He is a home town guy, though.

Bad teams always pay more. It's just generally the history of what happens.

I still think in the grand scheme, it's better to let either Hubbard or Rico operate in the lead position. Both are just flat out best with volume. I think the 50/50 split over the course of an extended window limits how good the rush can be any given Sunday.
