They can't completely be evaluated but he absolutely can be evaluated for the stuff that isn't on the QB. Effort, working on his route tree and his technique isn't on the QB. As for him being open deep, that for me gets filed under have to see with a better QB play or at least a QB that has deeper pass ability. Is he open deep because he is good or because the D knows his QB's ability? That's one spot we have to wait and see. XL is dumbish. It's not his accent or personality he just isn't terribly bright. Good news is he is a football player so he just has to be smart enough to try to keep improving his game. He hasn't improved his game and actually admitted to not working on anything, Im guessing he meant beyond normal because we all know he is practicing. But the fact is he came in a project and needs to improve his game. XL will look better with better QB play but how much? Worth a late 1st pick? Because he hasn't got close to that value yet.

This is genuinely why I come to this place rather than Twatter or fuging Reddit. Those guys are largely a bunch of Johnny come lately's that showed up later down the line(no shade to actual young fans here) or showed up after a Super Bowl appearance or success. Just too much pride in that trade up to admit they were wrong. It's obvious they also didn't intend on bringing in any serious competition the last two off seasons after his lackluster rookie season, kind of the complete opposite of what you want to do to field the best team you can put together.

Canales playcalling has been very reactionary re: criticism so this is a safe bet.

Nobody is listening to or observing the obvious. They dislike the kid at this point and he is going to have to have a 1500yd receiving season for them to just be quiet. XL nor any of our other WRs can truly be evaluated with the current QB play. I know you guys wanted Ladd, but the ALL 22 and anybody without an agenda can see that XL is running buck naked wide open a lot and not getting the throws. In the Green Bay game, he out ran the coverage 2-3 times and Bryce didn't even think to try to make the throw. I admit Ladd may have been better for Bryce as he does well in short spaces, but acting like XL is dumb, doesn't want to play football, hasn't been working, and doesn't care is nonsense! Remember when Dalton came in at the end of the Jets game and XL magically looked better? That change magically addressed a lot of XL's issues that day didn't it. Imagine someone better than Dalton.

I think the thing that struck me is it was ickey as one of the ones who spoke out ickey never speaks out my god, ickey lived through Rhule And Reich and his second year with Canales and never heard a peep it really makes me wonder who they were addressing…..was it Young ? With ickey talking it had to be someone on offense I don’t suspect the line or rbs as they are all vets. That leaves qb1 and wrs …and also offense is DC’s side of the ball one of the best things that could happen is getting a true OC IN not Izik and have DC be strictly a HC

Yeah this always drove me crazy. Now you have to definitely consider players from these schools being on stacked teams, but you can say the same for UGA, and LSU when Burrow was there.
