  1. Past hour
  2. Not upgrading the backup position this offseason or drafting another QB was just mind-numbingly stupid. And now they have to back-track a season too late to rectify it. Could have had a more concrete answer on picking up Bryce's 5th year option out of necessity, without having any other options on the roster.
  3. “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take… “ Different sport but same principle.
  4. It's more obvious than ever that we aren't picking up the fifth year and that Bryce probably has no more than seven more games in a Panthers uniform.
  5. I think if you have a naturally conservative coach, they almost have to be paired w/ an aggressive QB. Jake and Cam were naturally aggressive. You know they often irritated coaches with their decisions often. But both Fox and Ron needed that "correction" to their systems. Same is true for Canales. I think his personal DNA is likely conservative despite the offensive tree he comes from (which is still the O) Bryce isn't going to challenge it because it he doesn't have the tools or ability. But Canales' entire O in Tampa was pretty boring O....with Baker bailing him out on 3rd down downfield.
  6. Pretty damning to just come out and say "If you make our QB pass, we lose" it's actually a relief to hear him or someone like that just come out and say it. There is so much manufactured positivity sometimes that it makes you feel like you are losing your mind.
  7. I still think a Dalton thumb injury screwed us 2 seasons in a row. It allowed the Bryce Young comeback after whoever finally gave a greenlight on being done w/ him 2 weeks into the season. and I think we saw a soft benching this year and they wanted to see Andy run it with this crew. But Andy hurting his thumb killed us from seeing whatever he has at full go in a game. Bryce Young was never hurt those 2 games to the degree which called him to miss a game IMO. You don't see QBs sit for such minor things....unless you just want to use it to explore and see.
  8. I was quite critical of Ron Rivera's game day coaching decisions and management over his years here. Especially when he coached super conservative playing not to lose. But at the end of the day he never had to try and win with a Bryce Young. John Fox had to try and win with a Bryce Young and he completely checked out and got himself fired. The only. Only solution right now. Is to remove the anchor around our necks from the equation and move forward however we can and assess all the moving parts with the time we have left so we can move forward accordingly in the offseason. Not doing so is only going to further delay evaluating what we have in this young roster and this staff led by Canales.
  9. Sometimes GMs try outsmart everyone by picking a player they think has the physical tools and can be coached up but Legette is an example what happens when that doesn't work out. Teams that are already contenders with a full roster can take those chances. The Eagles, for example, could have rolled the dice on a guy like Legette. But the Panthers needed, and still need, to draft guys who are ready to play now in the first round. Legette wasn't that guy and there were much better options available.
  10. I cannot say enough how much the FO disgusts me. That we are to the point where we have paid this kid $39 million given up substantial capital to acquire him built the most expensive OL in the league to give him a chance to succeed. Drafted back to back first round WR's. And here we are essentially beating around the bush at best and acting as if we cannot see what is plain as day to everyone else. Dan Morgan should be ashamed of himself. The Tepper's are horrible out of touch people but Morgan should be better than this.
  11. I'm not a fan of Schlereth but unfortunately he is completely correct. I'm legitimately surprised he was this candid about it. The tide seems to be turning in the media. And yet. The Panthers continue to come up with excuses. Incredible.
  12. I compared it to Rivera because I never felt like Rivera didn't have the players ready to play and give their best effort. There's some exceptions to that but by and large the Rivera era Panthers played hard even if they were outmatched in talent or in scheme. I don't feel the same way about the Canales era Panthers. It seems like you said, they get down against better teams and they give up. And I agree, I think it boils down to the QB, and the lack of faith the team has in Bryce even if it's unspoken. With the Rivera era Panthers, they had Cam Newton, who had the talent to break open any game with his talent alone. Bryce is the opposite, the rest of the team has to keep the game close and hope Bryce will make something happen in the 4th quarter to win it. But for every great 4th down conversion and 4th quarter comeback he makes, he makes 10 awful plays to but the team in losing situations in the first place. The bottom line is the team doesn't believe in Bryce and they're never going to be able to recover from that. It's done. Bryce will never be the guy, it's over, and unless he walks onto the field as a different QB than he's been his entire career including college, it will never change. He needs to be on a team with elite talent at every other position to even have a chance to be a winning QB in the NFL and that's not what you expect from a #1 overall pick, let alone one that the team traded multiple first round picks to acquire.
  13. That would also make them part of the problem. Your almost there
  14. no doubt. I have zero faith in Bryce Young. But if the Panthers employed me tomorrow and a reporter point blank asked me if I believed in player Bryce Young being able to do doing Y.....I would at least lie and say yes and then say a bunch of gobbly goo about it's not just about him. I thought Dave choosing not to endorse his belief on Bryce when asked straight up there was either he spits SO MUCH bologna he forgot the technical right bologna and isn't even really listening to any questions....or water is just so wet he can't directly lie when it is that narrowed down.
  15. Again they sign a playable back up and Bryce would have been done. They are working with a pussy as qb1 and they tried to make it work.
  16. I didn't hold my tongue...I was out on Bryce LONG before he was drafted by the Panthers. Bryce's game did not translate well to the NFL. I vividly remember the 2022 Texas vs. Alabama game as the prime example of why Bryce would never translate well to the NFL. That was one of the best defeses Alabama played that season, a big chunk of players from that Texas defense are playing in the NFL now, and Bryce struggled all game. If Quinn Ewers didn't get hurt in that game, Texas would have won and the entire Bryce narrative changes. If anyone wants a reminder, here's the highlights of the game. He looks like EXACTLY the same QB now. Nothing has changed. Another thing about this game is it might have been rigged. This sh*t still bothers me. Young got sacked for a safety and the refs bailed him out. Should have either been intentional grounding and a safety or just outright sacked.
  17. Did they have a backup QB active who has a "broken thumb' on his throwing hand? Yeah that's on Dave too. Im not even sure they had another active option or why Dalton isn't on IR yet still.
  18. There is something quite similar though about the losses to the Cardinals and Saints. The blowouts tell me something different - I think the team losses confidence against complete teams rapidly. That is a coaching aspect, but also young players. Tbh, I can live with that for now if they beat the teams they're supposed to and give a good fight in other games (as they did). But the Cardinals and Saints games were stories of the offense either giving the game away or being unable to do ... Well, anything. While that is on Canales, too, both those games also featured standout (or truthfully standard) performances from our QB early and sometimes across the entire game. I do think it's hard to evaluate Canales when he has a QB that can't or won't execute an NFL offense for huge stretches or entire games. But there are signs of concern. Still, the very fact we had a win streak being a predictable as we were indicates the team has come along. And most of the team showed up vs the Saints, and I really think it's clear that was an incredibly winnable game with a different QB.
  19. Today
  20. No, I'm say he does it when he cannot be hit.
  21. Oh, they know how to counter a stacked box. The real question is why couldn’t they execute it on the field…
  22. I was very vocal about it before they resigned him. By the preseason it was too late and now it's just excuses. He was neither healthy or very good the last 2 years. 1 fun game of simi functional play and then a nose dive into looking really old. I just don't get the mystery here.
  23. he's not drinking the Kool-Ade, but he's been compelled to serve it up
  24. Canales is not consistent. Gritty wins are mixed with blowout losses, which means there is an inconsistent effort from the players, and inconsistent and insufficient game planning from the coaching staff. I would have liked to make the argument the team is just getting blown out by superior opponents like the Bills and Patriots, but losing to a 1-8 Saints team at home and the (now) 3-6 Cardinals were not consistent with that. It's a contrast to Ron Rivera's tenure as head coach where it seemed the players would generally give a consistent effort, but the coaching staff wouldn't always have a winning gameplan to beat the opponent. Which lead to some excrutiating close losses, especially early in Rivera's tenure as head coach. Canales is whiffing on both fronts in some games, leading to what seems like inexcusable blowout losses every other game.
  25. I thought the same thing. He knows Bryce is holding the offense back.
  26. I think canales and a lot of folks thought Bryce had turned the corner after the benching. It looked like it in many ways, and I don't honestly blame.them for thinking that... But it was a huge roster building blunder to not at least bring in a decent backup. Even if Bryce hadnt regressed, if he ended up injured, we were left with Andy Dalton... They had to know he doesn't have it anymore from seeing him practicing.
