ESPN's Benjamin Solak on Panthers QB situation
strato replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Excluding Cleveland because they took two guys but neither in the 1st… The model of taking a guy high and taking a shot down the draft has worked out great for two teams that come to mind as having done it. Purdy, and Kirk Cousins are the guys that saved each draft. I don’t know about a 1st rounder this year for us but if we ever do it again, we should follow those examples. -
There is some of that but honestly last draft was pretty good. I don't think we can evaluate him on QBs as long as Bryce Young is around. Somehow the guy captured the Teppers attention and the Panthers are those twos personal Madden experience, at least with a QB.

Honestly, had Rhule and Tepper not run Cam out of town AGAIN, and just let him continue to start until a young prospect was drafted to eventually replace him, we would’ve already made the playoffs during this 2018+ stretch and we never end up in this debacle with shitty ass Bryce either. -

Maybe the rumor Big Tep's wife pushed for Young is true -
People get too caught up in the history he has with the team and cannot separate the GM from the player.

I call it the "sawed off shotgun effect" A good spread covers everything. Instead of calling out the one who's screwing up, they lay the blame at everyone's feet. -

Dalton was resigned since he is the least likely to threaten Bryce’s starting job. Any younger JAG would appear far superior in the preseason. BY is Tepper’s guy. Tepper has shown 0 apprehension cutting bait… so give one logical reason why T has allowed this debacle to continue this long with this incredible level of suck unless it is deeply personal. Is it for the sake of trying to not meddle? Please. If Dan had somehow convinced T that BY would be legit, both Dan and Bryce would be long gone by now, but Bryce is still starting games and NO legit backup was signed. Why is that. Dan has been given leeway to improve every other position group, and absolutely has, except QB. Is QB somehow his kryptonite? The guy who made a living out of terrorizing QBs thinks BY is a franchise QB and doesn’t need to go? I’m not believing that one. Just imagine preseason games where the backup is connecting with lasers and your starter can barely complete a 15 yard duck. Talk about a bad look and guaranteed QB controversy. That was never going to be allowed. -
I feel certain there was a prescribed timeline and probably linked to the 5th year option crossroads.

That is why Vrabel is not here. I was always about the strong defensive minded hard ass as a leader model and would have taken him gladly. -
Tepper had his thumb on the scale. Anyone who has played at a high level like Dan knows that a little man QB is a problem. Can't tell the hedge-fund king anything. He knows the football......

Morgan played MLB at a high level and set a SB record for tackles (11, broken later it stands at 12 now). He knows, he just has to get through the season. This was always going to be the course the team took. Because of the owner and the investment made. If it wasn’t Morgan, anybody else hired as GM would have had the same terms imposed. Give Bryce every chance. In terms of games, in terms of talent around him, that was the mission. I don’t want to give Tepper credit he may not deserve so I won’t say we only have a few more games to suffer, but I hope this is season is enough to settle the issue.

We had Mike Vrabel slated for an interview. Can you imagine Vrabel in the middle of year 2 and watching Bryce Young attempting and utterly failing at playing QB against the 1-8 Saints? Suffice to say he wouldn't be indirectly blowing smoke to the media. He would have assuredly already had a viable alternative on the roster and pivoted to that guy regardless of what the GM or the owner thinks because he would do what is best for his football team. -
We already have a scrub. We don't need some else's scrub. There will be better options

I wonder if we could get Aidan O'Connell for a reasonable price? He's got starting experience, and is on a cheap contract. -

Let's not forget that SF gave up 3 #1s to get him. You don't quit on a player you give 3 huge picks for because he has one or two bad games. Purdy is the only reason SF doesn't look totally stupid. -

I've been saying this. He has to have a limited play book because of Bryce. It's killing us
