Question from a person that is not great with stats: If the scouts suck, then isn’t it better to view a pick as an educated guess? And if that were true wouldn’t we have a better chance with more guesses?

We don't really know if our scouts suck. Reports suggest that our GMs have been ignoring them. Hell, we had a college coach calling the shots for a few years. One thing Fitterer said that was actually correct was that predictability of getting quality players dropped at a certain point. The higher the pick, the better the chances of getting a decent player.

    Nobody is saying that.

Meanwhile, they get traded for peanuts while both have shown more promise than the guy we've mortgaged the franchise on. That's them hard to swallow pills.

So did Sam Darnold. We need to stop going that route

  3. I would like to see Ickey play in the same scheme for two consecutive seasons without a dumpster fire next to him before calling him a bust. I know that's not knee-jerk enough for the huddle, but still.

like I said there were a lot of red flags in this hiring

Yeah, he could very well be Matt Rhule with a porn addiction. When you add in the Morgan hire, (ie. promoting someone from within the worst front office in franchise history) the more this seems like more of the same from Tepp. When he said, "I'm in the background now" all he meant by that is, "I'm not doing press anymore. The FO and coaching staff can take the public beat down for my decisions."

Don't get me wrong, I like Dan and Canales and I hope they succeed. What choice do I have? But I wouldn't bet on it.

    i'm thinking/hoping/praying that 2 things happen.

    1) after evaluating the roster they get rid of the bums and then replace as many as they can with the type player "dawg" they are looking for and then fill out the rest of the roster with FAs that fit that mold

we should have a core, of sorts, to work with and build around and from that they should be able to

    2) build a scheme based on who we have on the roster. one that takes advantage of whatever strengths they can find and takes into consideration their limitations.

part of me just wants to scrap the whole roster and start over, but that's just the emotional part of me. i understand that most of this team we saw last year will be most of who we have next year. hopefully with a few subtractions and a few additions we'll have something to build on that isn't miserable to watch.

i think that's what my ceiling is set at...just don't make it miserable to watch.

I'm with you on that. I just think if we're going to transition into a more modern offense, now is the time to go through the growing pains. A lot of the dilemma is whether or not Tepper has the patience to allow any kind of transition.

even with reich and brown creating their bastardized version haphazardly created scheme didn't really take into account who we had. they just tried to create something that neither of them had done and hoped that everyone would fit into it.

we really haven't had anyone since probably henning scheme anything based on who we had here. chud didn't even pay attention to who was on the field when he was calling out plays.

Who we have here is the worst roster in the NFL. I don't think pandering to our awful roster is a pattern for success. I wouldn't expect Andy Reid to come here and run a 1980s power run scheme because of all of our crappy drafting. It's going to take some time for the personnel and scheme to align, unless we want to go full Wilks because our OLine sucks.

I would love that too, but a bit of a pipe dream.

I know fool me once, fool me twice, but man I cannot get over the lack of production and my hope that Marshall can still turn into something.. Im still living in that pre-draft hype.

Marshall makes Marvin McNutt look like David Gettis.

  8. Who cares? If Rhule's wife and Nicole were on board with Matt, Brock would be a serviceable starter with a dreadful team dragging him down instead of a seviceable QB with a great team around him competing for a SB. I think Rhule being enamored by JAGs that beat his college teams up is plausible, but so what.

I wish Ickey wasn't from NC. Then we'd get people being more honest about how he's been very not good. Who cares about situation. He was picked high enough to be the unstoppable anchor for a decade. Too many excuses for him.

I'm an ECU guy, so that has zero bearing on why I'd cut a second year player some slack. There's plenty of people making excuses for Bryce who is not from NC, and he's different from Ickey in that Ickey had a promising rookie season and has all the physical tools to play his position.
