The Dowdle Mirage - Play Calling Problems
HaricotVert replied to tukafan21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Dont get it twisted bro. I want BY9 and Canales gone. I do not think they are the future. But just like when we blanked Atl you give credit for executing a win when they earn it. Ive long been skeptical of Monday Morning Quarterbacking. We dont know the plan, we dont know the script, we dont know how they prepared, we only know what we saw. And in that light its easy to pick nits. I tend to accept the wins as - thats how they planned it and the losses as - well they fuged that up -

But if the team youre playing is giving up 55 yard runs on the right side why not ride that? As a fan base we have long criticized our coaches for their lack of game-day adjustments. Looks like this team took what was working and "ran" with it -

Legette was/is a character and who doesnt love the idea of this somewhat unique dude breaking it open in the NFL and livin the dream? But if thats his response after the "time off" I dont believe he has the drive Someone suggested recently that XL stumbled into the NFL, that this wasnt a boyhood dream and he just kind of fell into it in college. Then he went in the first round and has life changing money for him and his kin. I dont hate him for it But dude needs to be shown the door. The state of this team can not abide someone this detached. -

Turnover Fred, meet Tommy Jone -
Yeah but Jamis is good for air-raiding Ds for 2 or 3 games between the 5 int games. You honestly wouldnt take that over what we put on the field yesterday?

Words I never thought Id type Put Jamis Winston in a Panthers uniform

The dirty secret of the modern NFL is that fan anger or boycotts barely dent a team’s core earnings. With the league’s massive national TV deals and equal revenue sharing, even perennial losers like the Panthers get a guaranteed multimillion-dollar check every year before they sell a single ticket or jersey. Franchise values keep climbing because NFL teams are scarce, not because of their win-loss records. Remember Tepper is an investment guy and from an investment standpoint, building a winner is actually the risky play. It takes hundreds of millions in extra spending on coaches, facilities, and player contracts over years, and the payoff, higher local revenue, brand prestige, and maybe a valuation premium, only materializes if you sustain success. Compared to the baseline 8-12% annual appreciation every team enjoys just by existing, the "extras" from winning looks small and uncertain. So while we understandably want victories, the business case for winning isn’t as clear-cut. For many Tepper the safer bet is to hold the asset, cash the league’s checks, and let scarcity do the work. In that model, fan wallets just aren’t the lever they used to be. If Tepper had the kind of legacy goals of the Hunts or Jerry, or the Fords it might be different

the Panthers are maybe 25% of Teppers overall wealth. It makes good money as it is and NFL Franchises are assets that has historically performed very well regardless of the owners investment. What exactly do you think not buying tickets or swag is going to do to incentivize him to sell? The only people who can make him sell are the 31 other owners of his little club

bought it for 2.27B worth 6.4B now The losing franchise is making him billions - why change anything?

I did last year. I bought into the idea that we turned the corner. I know better now

With all due deference to all of the great MLBs. Nobody did it better than Luke. How many Top Tier QBs have we heard over the years talk about his uncanny ability to get his guys lined up exactly where they needed to be to counter even their audibles. If you think Smith doesnt deserve a Yellow Jacket and bust... you dont know football -
Madden has had a largely negative effect on the NFL viewership
