I know Cam has had his struggles but I'd ride him one more season. Get a full offseason and give him an offensive line. (Something that has been missing since Gross retired). You can either bring in some top tier free agents and draft the best QB available or draft a good LT and find a latter round QB that has potential. I would definitely run with him if we bring in new coach and a rookie QB. Give the rookie a chance to learn the offense and be ready for 2023.

We are one loss from tying our longest non-winning seasons. (09-12) and solidifying our spot at another top 10 pick. Currently 8th. The question is, what should be our primary target in the 2022 draft. QB or LT? I don't follow college football players as much as I do the teams, but it appears there are some really good offensive linemen available as well as some interesting QBs. The problem is if we draft a QB than we are in the same boat as we were this year. A really crappy line but, if we draft a LT than we don't have a QB to execute the offense. The Darnold trade really kills the opportunity to get both in the first 2 rounds. I would probably take the top LT (ONLY LT) and run with Cam one more season hopefully finding a QB in 2023 or a later round QB that can be groomed.

25 Years USN. Go Navy Beat Army

That's true.

I don't see that happening. Pickett will be long gone before we select unless we lose out are are in the top 5. Detroit and the NYJ will be prime targets to trade down. Atlanta and Houston will be in the QB market. I would not be surprised to see 2 or 3 QBs go before we get a chance to pick.

Pro Football Talk on Matt Rhule
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Toker Smurf's topic in Carolina Panthers
I agree with everything but the draft picks. Brady and possibly Brown should be starting. They are rookies but they aren't any worse than what we have out there now. Both probably have an opportunity to get better whereas the current players have no where to go but down. Brown really disturbs me because he was carrying extra weight but he lost it yet It seems they wanted him to lose more. Let the man play and show what he can do at his current weight. I don't think he was put on IR for a real injury. Had we let them play more this year we would have had a better evaluation of what we need going into the 2022 draft. Now we have 2 rookies with very limited playing time and have to decide whether they were good picks or we have to choose another player to compete with them. -
If we lose to Atlanta does Tepper fire Rhule
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like Rhule I think his ideas are good but he is basing everything off Temple and Baylor. It's as if the only way he can succeed is utilizing coaches he's known in college. Our staff doesn't have enough NFL experience. These coaches have no one in their ear saying. "That won't work up here" -
The firing now helps with letting Rhule go after the season. Had we waited until the end of the season Rhule gets a pass for 2022. If we don't see some sort of improvement I think he's done after the season.

Draft order if the season ended today (pretty weird)
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
I was just going by the current team position but Seattle Giants and Miami could easily win more games than us. -
Last draft everyone was on the "athletic" QB and downplayed Mac Jones, who probably is the front runner for offensive rookie of the year. I hope we keep our options open for a smart talented QB that might not be as athletic as others on the board.

Draft order if the season ended today (pretty weird)
DaveThePanther2008 replied to CRA's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have 1. Det 2. Jax 3. Hou 4. Sea 5. NY Jets 6. Chic 7. NY Giants 8. Car 9. Mia 10. Philly Unless Cam gets a better grasp of this offense I am not very optimistic we win any more games this year, Maybe Atlanta, possibly New Orleans but, I think we look to 2022 and shore up the O-Line. Lions and Jags are locks in front of us. Jets have shown some fire and depending on the rest of their schedule they could, not likely, but could move ahead of us. Giants as well. Seattle and Chicago maybe. If the gods are good to us we could go as high as #3 -
I would wish this was true but the fact is Rhule's goal was to be an NFL head coach. So unless he is fired I do not see him leaving.

Hoping for the best for you and your family.

Cam Newton should be done as a starting QB in this league
DaveThePanther2008 replied to NAS's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am fortunate that I have AFN. AFN shows all the games in replay through the week. I get a chance to watch a lot of games. We are, by far, the most inept offense in the league right now. Brady is the reason. Lack of experience or just plain egotistical that he can't adapt to the NFL. I said in a thread I posted earlier this week that I don't think it would matter who was under center that we aren't going to produce the high octane offense we are capable of. We have the weapons but we don't have an OC that can game plan an offense to get them the ball. Cam had a terrible day, I believe 5 or 6 of his attempts were blocked. It is pretty easy to block a short pass when you are two feet from the QB. Our O-line is abysmal and our OC cannot design plays to help with that issue. I was skeptical of a college OC and only went onboard because anything was better than Shula. Now I am not so sure. -
Cam was terrible yesterday as was PJ and not much different from Sam. But all IMO get somewhat of a pass until we get an offensive line. We need top of the line free agents and First and 2nd round talent in the draft. How can you expect any QB to operate when the defensive line are 2 feet away from you on every throw. How many blocked passes did we see yesterday. Some of it is on Cam but damn the offensive line was getting pushed around all freaking day. I would also say a new OC I sit here and watch other teams that may have worse offensive lines still be productive. Yeah I get it that is was a limited playbook for Cam but there is no way we can continue with easy diagnosed plays. Our offensive coordinator doesn't know how to scheme against an opponent. I truly don't believe he studies as much as he should. Rhule stands by him and that is part of his problem. Atlanta is our last chance at a W and honestly I don't see us winning anymore games this season. If we lose out. Fitterer stays and the rest hit the road.

I am not sure who's idea it was to let Cam go and start this merry-go-round we have at QB now. There is no one in their right mind going to believe that TB5 or Darnold are better options that Cam. As things unfold I think the decision was all Rhule. He wanted to start fresh, which I can understand, with his own QB. Many of us thought it was a stupid move and nearly 80 million dollars later we are fixing what could have been money we could have used on another position, Say an Offensive Line. There are very few times in life you are able to right a wrong. Cam coming home is not only making a wrong right but the best move to get us a chance to make 2022 special. Someone said it earlier. If this team somehow sneaks into the playoffs. I would not be the team that would want to face us. We are going to be a tough out.

Sam's contract and our options
DaveThePanther2008 replied to AU-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wish I could say that any of these options are possible but other than keeping him or cutting him and eating the dead cap is about the only thing we are going to see. He was garbage in N.Y. and started out good but went to hell after week 3. I see no way any team bites on a trade just to help us out. Our draft capital is thin this year so every pick is going to be cruciat. At our current pace I see us mid field in the draft. I see us trading back to get more draft capital going into the 2022 draft. -
If we sneak into the playoffs...
DaveThePanther2008 replied to TheRumGone's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm as optimistic as you can get on this forum but, our schedule is brutal with two games against TB and ,NO and Buffalo. We're, at minimum, going to have to win at least two of these. And we can't let WFT, Atlanta, or Miami screw it up for us. It's a big task since we seem to brain fart games we should win. The only thing going well for us is that the wildcard, at the current pace, is going to be a 9-8 team. -
Panthers make the Playoffs and Cam is comeback player of the year.

Carolina Panthers agree to terms with Cam Newton.
DaveThePanther2008 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
I have been wondering why we don't give it another try with him. I thought and even more so now that he was better than any QB we've had on the roster since he left. Brady will have no excuse now. Unfortunately I don't think he'll start this week but I hope he starts next week. -
Burns sends a message to fellow DE’s and Mac Jones
DaveThePanther2008 replied to mc52beast's topic in Carolina Panthers
It was nothing? I tell you what had Burns sacked him and rolled him like he did to Burns. Burns would have been fined and suspended. You are F***King blind if you can't see that BS was intentional. -
I was at the Philly game and when we were on offense it sounded as if we were in Philly. When Philly was on offense I could barely tell it was 3rd down. I totally agree. I know Carolina is a perfect place because we have a good location. Teams from the North and South don't have far to travel but damn. Can't we fill at least 3/4 of the stadium with Panther fans.

Here's the dilemna. Being near the top of the draft Again, at least at our current pace. Do you snag a QB? Or do we go with the 2nd coming of a reclaimation project? Do we draft excluesively O-line help or do we rebuild our O-line with top of the line free agents. I think we are going QB in the drat and stocking our O-line with top of the line free agents. We got money.
-
I don't see where we are trying to put the blame on the draft. We've had more players take the field from our draft class than any class I can remember. While most (actually all) aren't going to make the Pro Bowl they have shown flashes that give us hope. Brown and Christensen I think are because our O-line coah and OC are garbage. At this point putting Christensen into the fire is probably the best thing we can do. I had high hopes for Brown and IMO they are putting too much stress on the weight issue. The guy was a bull dozer in college. They should have given him a shot. IMO there is no way Christensen can do any worse than what we have seen this season.
