I really hate when we get this optimistic and act like this team is right at the cusp. We beat the Rams by 3 even though we had a pick 6, forced another 3 turnovers, had no turnovers and scored two long TDs on 4th down. All that and we still needed Brown to strip Stafford to keep them from forcing OT.

    This!!!!

As if the defense doesn't matter in a WIN.  We beat the Rams with a stingy defense and scored enough on offense to win the game.

We should be optimistic if our defense compliments our offense.

Could we have a defensive breakdown and a good offensive day? Yes we could. Who knows what to expect from this team, but generally when you think about why we have lost games, it has been underperforming on offense more times than in the other phases.
People should be shining the light on them. They are the unit that has another step to take. This game will probably hinge on them taking it or stumbling over it.

The paragraph I was talking about was about how we got "lucky" by getting those turnovers.  We forced those turnovers and deserved to win the game.

I get your point and hopefully we get more consistency from the offense.

I’m all in and will be at next week’s game but we aren’t anything like some of our past playoff teams that were legitimate SB contenders. We’re just the only team above .500 (by a half game) in the worst division.

There is still a lot of work to be done and we still need good drafts. Tet’s been great but Scourton and Princely aren’t blowing up. A lot of playing time but man we still need more top players. One or two injuries to our stars and we suck.

Why are so many people making this an issue?  It's called a team.  You can't win, especially against good teams if you don't have contributions from all aspects of the game.  Our defense FORCED these turnovers.  That's how you win games.

Let's stop making this all about the offense.  TEAM EVENT.

I'd start the game going pass heavy, like in the second Falcons game, to exploit the heavy box sets New Orleans will undoubtedly start with. Then after building a lead and creating a tired Saints defense, punish the Saints with a very heavy run game, wearing them down more and churning out the clock.

Don't forget this was one of the games where Canales was splitting time with Rico and Chubba.  Chubba wasn't fully healthy.  I think this time either back will be effective.

I don't want to go all pass like we did against a 49er team I think we could have beaten.

Feed into the run first and gash them with Coker, T-Mac and Evans.  I think the TE is going to have a big impact on this game.

    Go Panthers

    Go Navy Beat Army

  5. I am hoping that he recovers and can be a serviceable backup to Chubba.  I really want to keep Dowdle but, it's a money crunch and you can't keep everyone.  We have Chubba so we'll probably let him go elsewhere.  Just hope it isn't in our division.

Brooks has a great mentor in TD.  If there is anyone who can give him advice it's him.  I like that TD gave information on how he worked out and recovered.

Also, can the Sanders stans just fuging chill?

I say that as a guy that had him as the #2 QB in this class but ya'll are obsessed to an unhealthy level.

He makes a couple of big plays and everyone thinks he's a hidden gem.  IMO he holds onto the ball way too long and He plays off script mostly.   Just not a fan.

  7. TE is going to have to be first round talent.  We're going to keep diving in on one dimensional TEs hoping they can become multi-dimensional.

Evans IMO is probably the closest thing to dual threat TE.  He's a good blocker and catches well.

Sad part is we have too many other needs to grab for the best TE in the draft.

Yes because most of the wins have been in spite of him. I will acknowledge he has had some very good games but you can't succeed with a guy that inconsistent.

And the idea of regretting letting him go because he turns into Mayfield or Darnold is ridiculous. Bryce has had like five good games here. Who gaf if he has five good games over the next three years?

Take away year one and he has progress significantly.  Darnold took several years to get it, as did Mayfield.  While I am not implying that BY will turn into either one of these players, I still believe there is some hope.

These last 4 games will really make a difference.

Were in playoff contention and lets just see if he craps the bed or really shows he's dialed in.

Here's the thing. You compared him to Jake. Jake was signed to the practice squad out of college. Bryce was the number 1 overall. Their expectations are wildly different and so are their contracts. You can talk all you want about what a player is and where they are now and all this other mumbo jumbo, but Jake never had a 5th year option and we weren't talking about the possibility of a top 5 QB contract extension at the end of his 3rd year. What he was expected to be matters because we invested heavily at a cost of future capital, including a 2nd round pick this year, for him to be that guy. The cost to add Bryce took value from the team. To be worth it, he has to add that value back.

Actually, I don't prefer yards, TDs, or only INTs. All those stats by themselves are misleading which is why I said you have to use a lot of different stats.

ADOT - Average depth of target.

Completion %. Pretty obvious until you factor in ADOT. 0-5 has a lot higher C% than 10-15%.

Hang time. If a pass is in the air for 4.6 seconds vs 3.1 on a 40 yards throw, that gives a DB a lot of time to correct. Is it a loft or is it a laser.

EPA - Expected points added. A way of measuring QB efficiency on every play.

CPOE - ranking pass completions based on several factors, not just the throw.

There's obviously more, but those are the more common.

Typical stats don't show everything. You need to look all over. Looking at a stat line is lazy. That's why I said, you need to analyze everything. Once you start looking at the numbers you start looking at the player. That's why you follow numbers. They lead you places. You look at what happening when the numbers show you patterns. That's where you start finding the problems that yards, TDs and Ints won't show you.

I want to ask you.  Did each of those TD passes Young threw Sunday meet this criteria?  Young's swing pass to Chubba was perfectly placed and quick.  Both Coker and T-Mac's TDs were well placed touch passes.    Bryce has had many small window completions.

Analytics are a great source of knowledge but in the end game time situations call for quick deceive decisions and analytics go out the door.

I'm glad I chose that game at the beginning of the season to go to. I hope that game still has significance by the time it gets here.

One of the last times we played Tampa in Carolina at Christmas time I was home and went to the game.  This was the game Cam had a 50+ yard run to glory.  One of the greatest highlights in Panther history.  Hopefully, we have another great moment or two this time.
