Rapsheet isn't above spinning a story for clicks. The main reason that Corral slid is that he played in an RPO offense which in turn made him a tough analysis. Can he process information in a pro style offense...blah blah blah? By the way, I'm not excusing his Wonderlic, but he thinks he may have skipped a question, and if you do that apparently they don't count anything else after it. It's not a good litmus test anyway. Seriously. All we have to do is look at history.

I was thinking the other day; whatever is included in Rhule's contract regarding control is legally binding ultimately only for the amount of money that Tepper's on the hook for, and, at the end of the day, that means little to Tepper. In other words, he could have told Rhule, "I don't give a fug what the contract says, you better take a back seat, or your ass is fired." He may not have said it in those words or in a mean manner, but he may have suggested it. For all the stories about Rhule wanting to go back to college and not caring if he's fired, I think some of those stories were taken out of context if not outright media-driven exaggerations. I think that he wants to make it work. Hiring a pro staff and fading kind of in the periphery and letting guys do what they do best is a sign of growth.

Good catch. I really do believe Rhule has eaten some Humble pie. We'll never know the full story, but dynamics have definitely shifted, and it really hasn't been as subtle as the FO would like. From this to Tepper's press conference, there have been tells. Perhaps the result of another sh¡tty season, being lambasted by fans, and roasted in the media has made everyone from Tepper on down reassess who should be doing what based upon strengths, and not Rhule's arrogance and ignorance. In any event, I like how Fitterer operates.

I don't even know, but if I had to guess I'd think that Corral will be the starter by some point in November. I don't believe that the FO will be rushed to give him the reins because Rhule's seat was not as hot as has been advertised. As long as we're showing gradual improvement as a team, Tepper will be patient well into 2023.

Was Matt Corral the Target or a Panic Pick?
top dawg replied to chknwing's topic in Carolina Panthers
I think that he was our target, and have hinted as much for weeks. And, I am also happy to say that in no way was it a "panic pick" because the FO exercised an extreme amount of patience before moving, and they moved when Corral became a value pick--when we didn't have to give up a first or second round pick to obtain him (which was what I thought that they should do the longer that he stayed on the board). -
Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss
top dawg replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
I mean, that's all and good, but I've watched the game in earnest for damned near 45 years (50 if you count just as a fan), and I can say with surety that no one knows how any of these guys will do until the time comes. Waxing on about the system a kid played in while in college, however technical, is just that. We're going to have to wait and see how he develops and plays. All the discussion based on what he (or any of them) did or didn't do in college is pretty fruitless at this point. -
I'm not gonna lie. I only researched the top three OTs and top 5 QBs. We got my number 1 guy at each position, so the rest is just gravy. Unlike some, I like what we did on day three last year, so I'm expecting some upside at positions of need tomorrow.

Some of y'all were spot on and fair. Some of y'all...well...I just don't know what you were(n't) seeing. I'm glad that things worked out. I knew we'd never draft Corral in the first with one of the top tackles on the board, but not only did we get my preference at tackle, we got my guy at QB.
-
I'm pleased! I listened to guys go on and on about Willis and Pickett and Howell. I threw hints out here and there. I also believe I was the first to go on record as being on the Corral train. Well, here we are. Corral was the most enigmatic, and in my opinion had the actual highest upside of any QB in the draft. My only question about him was his injury concerns. He'll have to modify his game, but he is a legit gamer!

I told you bitches!

I can live with that. Gotta take a swing!

We're on the clock!

Willis may be a winner one day, but I don't feel that we were in a position to wait and gamble on him.
-
If his game was as entertaining as his commercials, we would be OK.
-
I wanted Cam. Most didn't.

Corral

He was my 2nd or 3rd QB. I dislike his accuracy, but I do think that he can improve.
-
Nah, I didn't. The only college games that I watch are UGA's. That being said, sometimes the unit makes everyone look bad, but when you start breaking down individual film, you can get down to the nitty-gritty and compartmentalize a player's traits.
-
It's really all about needs and the most immediate potential starters, so it's really not all that surprising.
-
I only think he makes a move for someone he actually wants. These guys aren't mix and match, regardless of how fans think. GMs don't think that way.
-
At this point, it would seem like people would throw the narratives away regarding the QBs. Any one of them could be the next QB drafted.
-
I heard one of these guys on the radio today say that Willis is too short. If he was big like Allen or Cam, he'd have been drafted already.
-
My gut tells me that he wouldn't have slid past the Seahawks, but we'll never know.
