Panthers terminating Rock Hill project agreements
top dawg replied to Dorian Gray's topic in Carolina Panthers
I heard on the radio that Tepper has 147 mil in it. -
Baker has been in a markedly better position. Let's not forget that tidbit. Other than changing coordinators, like Darnold, Baker's situation has been superior in every way. I'll take Baker over Sam for sure, but only if we don't give anything of consequence. Otherwise, this FO, Fitterer included, will appear like braindead zombies.
-
I have an open mind. At least he's not raw as steak tartare and doesn't have 16-year-old girl hands.
-
All speculation. Two first round picks and additional picks/players is likely good enough. The Texans didn't even get what they wanted for Watson. Just my opinion: any GM willing to trade three first round picks for Murray is foolish.
-
There were reports that per "league sources", there was "mutual disinterest" between both parties. That may mean nothing, but I will say that in Baker's first interview after breaking his silence, he mentioned Seattle as a potential fit and didn't say sh!t about the Panthers, when we're arguably the most obvious ones.
-
Honestly, Baker is ultimately going to play wherever he can because no one really wants him. I'm not even sure that we do. Sure, we'll take him under the right circumstances (which will include jettisoning Sammy), but I just don't see it happening. Forcing the issue for Baker Mayfield just seems too funny to say (funny as in peculiar and/or humorous).

"What are we doing in the draft" 2022 edition.
top dawg replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
I like the news about Corral. I love thee news about not selling the farm for Garropolo or Mayfield. If what you say is true, I'm content. Now, all I have to do is wait and see how next Thursday falls. -
The names coming up are the Falcons and the Saints (which have the firepower to do it).

Robby Anderson wants Panthers to work out Colin Kaepernick
top dawg replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I am not a proponent of paying Kap a lot of money; what I am a proponent of is giving him a shot to play in the league once more. Regardless of what his skill level was, he was still better (and is still likely better) than some that are signed right now, and that's with six years off. And on an off note: NFL QBs don't forget how to play football, they're bodies let them down after a while, especially if they've taken a beating, or they just don't feel like making the sacrifices anymore that it takes to compete. Kap is apparently not in that place, and his situation is unique. It's also unfortunate. Ultimately, he has to take what he can get or just move on. I don't think he's delusional enough to be trying to back up the Brinks truck to any franchise -

Kap got a settlement from the NFL; we aren't talking about some poor slob from the CFL trying to get a vacation by listening to a timeshare presentation. As for spending a lot of money on Kap, I'm pretty sure that if he was offered a contract that it wouldn't amount to much in the grand scheme of things. As for paying for a mediocre QB, I think it's infinitely worse to be paying one going on 20 mil per year whether he's younger or not, especially when there are journeyman that make more sense from an economic and possibly upside perspective. -

Hey, if he doesn't take what he can get, that's on him. My point has always been is that there were worse QBs in the league than him. Because of how things went down, we'll never know what could've been. -

I don't believe that his meaning was literal as opposed to meaning that there are some elements that are reflective of slavery from some perspectives. He's hardly the first person that's ever suggested that. People shouldn't be so literal all the time. -

Can't faut you for that. He has something to prove this season or the raising of eyebrows will turn into more of what we're getting from many Huddlers now, and it will probably be fully justifiable. -

The argument that "he hasn't played since 2016" is a nonstarter. We all know why he didn't play, and most of us should also know that he was worthy of playing in the NFL in some capacity. As for believing it's all a dog and pony show, that's interesting...but I don't feel that he'd go through the trouble if he in fact didn't want to play anymore. He's already proved his point regarding the inequities and racism in the NFL in my mind (if that's what you're getting at). I think that he just wants another shot to continue his dream. -

I don't necessarily think that, as a rule, listening to any player when it comes to personnel decisions is the way you wanna go. Posting things like "fire" and "praying hands" or even a ding here or there on social media is decidedly benign in the grand scheme of things. And like Aggielean said, there was disdain for Robbie on the Huddle before 2021. It's just interesting is all. I can justify ragging on him for his 2021 performance, but I believe there were some mitigating factors if one chooses to be thoughtful as opposed to hateful. Even more, I could argue (and have) that when you look at the entirety of Robby's career, he has done fairly well and has been on the right trajectory, including one of two years here. Why people hate him so is really over the top in my opinion, and I certainly am not going to rubber stamp the idea that he's getting above his britches or getting out of place because his...level of play doesn't justify it. I certainly don't believe that that's an appropriate or politically correct gauge to determine Robby's right to freedom of expression (especially for things that could possibly have a direct impact upon his career). -
Oh yeah, I agree. I said as much if you read and understand what I said. Minshew would be one of the "journeyman" that I was referencing. I would think we'd have to keep Darnold in the case of Minshew because why would Philly take on his contract? Hell, we'd have to pay them additional resources just to take on Darnold, and that would likely lead to something unacceptable.

That may be true in reference to Mayfield, but it's not necessarily true in reference to Kaepernick. Kap was cut off at the knees for different reasons during what should've been the prime of his career, so much so that he wouldn't even be considered for a backup job (and that's bullshit). In any event, I don't think there's any harm in seeing what he has now if teams so choose. From some perspective, it would be fitting. -
I most assuredly believe that we'll see if you're correct at some point within these next two weeks.
-
No harm, no foul...so far. No pending deal. If there's a deal, the Devil is always I the details. I just don't see anything happening on any front, save for a journeyman, without Darnold being shipped to the other party as a result, and what self-respecting GM wants to do that? But, if we can jettison Darnold and halfway fix the compounded path of destruction of the wake of that trade and mitigate future damage, I'd be OK with it. No more dilly-dallying with day 1 and day 2 draft picks, please?!
-
Oh, now the chart is "arbitrary"...Chart aside, there are opportunity costs associated with each pick. That's the truth. Historically, GMs don't do all that great; a couple of quality starters from the draft, and you're worth your weight in gold. If you can do better than that, it's gravy. Unfortunately I can't say for sure if we'll be able to get away from paper analysis unless Rhule gets the hell out of the way. He's dampening our ability to see Fitterer and the quality of his picks for what they really are. I do have reason to believe that he will due to the acquisition of actual experienced NFL coaches. If Rhule has learned that lesson however, I suspect for guys like BC, Tremble, and even Thomas and Hubbard to step up. TMJ, still very talented, is almost a lock to flash provied that he's overcome his injury woes and is not "bench-beaten" by Rhule as well. As for this draft, I only expect one quality player anyway with so little draft capital. In any event, I'm not giving up.

They don't like his locs... I don't think a few posts on social media are that big of a deal. People today blow the importance of social media way out of proportion. At the end of the day, my opinion is if we can consider Mayfield and Garropolo or Minshew, we can also give Kaepernick a chance, and that's what I'm sticking to. -
Even if what you say is true from an overarching perspective , the ability to separate and appreciate the player from the draft pick is kind of what analytical thinking is all about in regards to draft value discussions. I'd add, that the draft is in some sense about the number of horses you have in the race, and obtaining the best positions which to jockey from. The better positions that you can jockey from, the more you might be able to win (in this case, hit the target).
-
If we ultimately obtain Minshew, I will be shaking my head. I came to the conclusion that Minshew should be our target a year ago based upon Panthers Wire (who obviously put the thought out there). There were a few others in agreement of course. If we could see it, then why not the Panthers FO? We would be in so much of a better place today if we had gone the route of acquiring Minshew as a UFA, as opposed to getting fleeced by the Jets. Not saying that Minshew is the answer to anyone's prayers, that's not what this is all about, but he would've been at the very least the perfect bridge QB that you lose relatively little on by taking a swing. Now, if we give up any appreciable draft capital to acquire him, or acquire him at all, I just won't know how to take it. I'm sure I'll have a certain amount of relief--like it was all a bad nightmare that could have been avoided that's now over--but there are repercussions regardless. Irony...regardless.
