  1. His YAC per completion was also 35th in the NFL. There are only 32 teams.
  2. I think the PFF's goal is to grade you as an individual. We all know that football is the ultimate team sport, and your success is dependent on at least one other person - usually several. Maybe it helps distinguish how well you did your job rather than the result, which you can't always control.
  3. Most QBs that throw for 300+ yards don't actually throw for 300+ yards in the air. There is YAC in there that boosts numbers. Hopefully Carolina gets a little of that soon. Haven't really had that since McCaffrey and DJ Moore.
  4. It's obvious that a light switched on since returning from being benched. He is trending in a very positive direction. That's all we should hope for from a 2nd year QB. His performance at the end of last season should inspire hope from the fan base. Hopefully the rest of the team is improved enough to take advantage of his rookie contract. But, that is depending on a lot of really young and new players. Dan is planning long term, but hoping to catch lightening in a bottle with a couple of younger vets on the edge of breaking out. No one knows what will happen. You can choose to be optimistic, or you can choose to crap on everything, all the time.
  5. Hoping Renfrow beats out Moore. If so, it's likely a very good group.
  6. And he does it. He doesn't put it on a rope like Allen. He throws with anticipation and timing. Now, if he tried to throw that deep out late like Cam used to, he's probably looking at a pick 6.
  7. He definitely doesn't have elite arm strength. But he doesn't have the weak arm guys keep saying he has. Remember, he was overthrowing guys deep before. Now, he's put a little more air under his throws and he's completing them. Probably more of an adjustment to speed. He was used to having burners out wide. Not big body receivers.
  8. CRA, honestly I think you're giving other QBs too much credit. WRs bail out their QB more times than not in tight coverage. Yes, sometimes it's a perfectly placed ball that only the receiver can get to. But the receiver still has to make the play. QBs just give them a chance - trust factor. In that last game against ATL, Penix threw a lot of passes he had no business throwing. His recievers made play after play for him - that and our secondary had zero ball skills. That's normally how it goes. Panthers rarely have guys running wide open through defenses, so most passes are contested due to tight coverage not necessarily bad ball placement. It was that way for most of Cam's career. That's why Darnold struggled so much. That's why things got difficult for Baker. That's the difference in Carolina. And that's why they chose TMac instead of an Edge. Bryce was trying to wait on a guy to get open, or get in a position where he could throw them open. That, mixed with a bad oline, was why he struggled so much early and lost confidence. Difficult ask for a rookie QB. Hopefully he's figured it out going into his 3rd season.
  9. If he just stays the same, he'll be good enough to win a lot of games, with an average defense and an improved cast of skilled players around him. And let's be honest. This team was at the bottom of the barrel in that department the last 2 seasons. Hopefully, they've inserted a little more juice this off season. No knock on Adam Thielen, but if he's your number one option at this stage in his career, something is very wrong.
  10. Honestly, I wouldn't care if he Pele kicked the ball to the receiver. As long as he makes the play.
  11. So sneaks will let you know he's the QB of the future? Really? Should have just drafted Jalen Milroe.
  12. That used to be a fullback play in my day. 100% could be that today as well. Snap the ball to a guy that's used to moving guys when he has the ball.
  13. I was ready to let this go but I think you're all missing the point I was making. A lot of guys were making definitive statements like Bryce can't do something because "insert physical limitation". My point is that he can. And he can consistently do it. No, he doesn't do it like Mahomes or Josh Allen. He does it like Bryce Young. And he's able to do it consistently. Now QB sneak is probably legit. That's probably not in his bag. But honestly, it's probably better to have another guy to take those hits for your QB. If you have a freak like Cam, Allen or Hurts, sure go ahead. They feed off of those plays too. Most other QBs wouldn't have a problem bringing in a RB/TE type for short yardage runs up the gut.
  14. Ok. That's fair. He doesn't have to be elite to win a super bowl though. Just clutch. See Jalen Hurts. I know they gave up a lot for a non-elite QB, but that's a sunk cost. Can't keep getting distracted by that. Hopefully, he continues to improve on the things he can do.
  15. So you watched those games, and you don't think he played very well? Stats don't always tell the story. Like XL's TD drop to take the lead against PHI at the end of the game. Again. Not about stats. There are a lot of factors that help or take away from QB stats. Do you still think his "physical limitations" prevent him from being a good QB?
  16. Oh I disagree. I completely disagree. He played very well against KC and Philly. They were both in the Super Bowl.
  17. So can we all at least agree that he's physically able to play the position at a high level? There were a lot of weird takes on here before like: 1. he's too short to see the field. all of his passes will be batted down. he'll have to do that hop pass just to get the ball over defenders. he just won't ever be effective passing in the middle of the field. and will never be able to take snaps from under center. 2. he's too small; he'll get injured the first time he's hit; he'll go down whenever he's touched by a defender 3. he's too slow to outrun defensive linemen. he just won't be able to escape the rush or make defenders miss. 4. his arm is just too weak to throw the deep out in tight coverage. or to complete a deep pass Did I miss anything? And he showed he was able to do all of those things his rookie season. Just not consistently. Obviously the problem was always mental. Confidence and trust in his team mates.
  18. That concussion last year was a freak play. With that being said, hopefully he doesn't have an issue with injuries. Because if he stays healthy, he's gonna be a problem. Already has that "it" factor.
  19. It's been mentioned in this thread, yet many are glossing over it... This WR group has a ton of potential. TMAC, XL and Coker, and maybe even Horn as the speed guy will get a ton of snaps in this offense. The reality is that they are all really unproven. Hopefully they're ascending, but we don't know if XL and Coker are maxed out based on last season. TMAC and Horn are ROOKIES. So the only "proven vets" are Thielen, Moore and Renfrow. Not exactly top of the league. Biggest issue being a lack of speed to take the top off of defenses. Say what you want about Tedd Ginn but he was probably the most important receiver on the team in 2015.
  20. Time to move on. Torn achilles at LB at 30+. No Bueno.
  21. I haven't watched a full game, but we know he likes to hit. Damm!
  22. Thought it was a great draft overall. Only thing I probably would have preferred was Billy Bowman and Malachi Moore in the 4th. Wanted Tez, but Horn is a similar receiver type so good with it if they think he's a better fit.
  23. Have the Panthers ever been involved in a draft trade like that before? Times a changing.
  24. Based on who was available at the picks, I'd give it a B. Based on how I think the picks will impact the team, I'd give it an B+. Pass rush improved. Run defense improved. RZ offense improved. Speed/quick twitch receiver addressed but not sure he was the best pick - Tez was available. And still need a ball hawking safety.
