Did you look at the physics article on force on a smaller object above ? That’s the baseline. Physics. A Yukon hitting a Prius vs a Yukon hitting an Explorer. Other than that there is nothing to predict what will happen to Bryce at 190 pounds.

@rayzor this is the closest we have to Young’s stature being a problem. The ops statistical information is relevant to a certain extent, but this article on G-Force is a better example of why I’m concerned.

I agree with most of your take in the previous post about height. It’s a concern not being able to see over the line unless in Shotgun. It limits your offense. There’s no evidence to support Bryce getting hurt because he will be the first of his stature in the modern NFL. Saying Bryce’s weight and slight stature is not a problem based on the premise that there isn’t any evidence does not fit here. It’s never been done, that’s why there isn’t evidence.

You hit it on the head. If Brian Burns were in a 3-4 when he turned pro he would have at least three 10 sack seasons by now. He gained weight and filled out his frame over time to better suffice as a 4-3 end, but let’s be honest, it’s always been difficult for him against the run. He’s no longer out of position and will not have to line up against 310 pound offensive tackles on every play.

I agree Mahomes light means 85% of Patrick M. at best. Let me get the possibility of 100% of a Joe Burrow(Stroud) vs the possibility of 85% of Mahomes(Young). Besides if Young extends plays like Mahomes he is going to get hit. That’s a fact. There is no way a player evades NFL defenders like Bryce evaded college defenders without occasionally getting lit up. I have seen Josh Allen and Mahomes both take big shots. You can’t bet on 10 to 15 years at the highest level expecting not to get lit up. You can’t realistically even expect that to happen for 3 years. I also understand Young needs the least amount of adjustment time and will need very little coaching to adjust to the NFL. Why did Tepper invest all that money in an All-Star coaching staff if they dont have to develop the rookie QB? It literally makes no sense. Pick the player without longevity concerns and the highest potential ceiling. That’s Stroud.

I get the conversation you want to discuss, but the article talks primarily about lower body injuries due to weight. That’s not what analyst and GM’s are concerned with when discussing Bryce Young. Even the statistics gathered in this article have no direct correlation to a quarterbacks like Young. How can it possibly discuss Young when he will be the first of his size? He’s elusive but what happens when Nick Bosa or Bobby Wagner blind sides him. I know there are rules to protect QB’s against body weight but what happens when a 300 pound man lands on Bryce? Or better yet he gets closed in a pocket where he can not escape and a 300 pound lineman possibly steps on his ankle or any part of his lower leg??? Do you trust him to avoid body weight for maybe 5 years? I’m not even talking about the next 15 years that we want for a franchise QB drafted 1 overall. I love the player I just dont think you gamble with a billion dollar decision. What’s the point of spending millions getting offensive minded coaches if they aren’t willing to take the safer pick Stroud and develop him ? Strouds doesn’t have any glaring weaknesses and seems like he has room to grow.

Cocky is good and probably needed as an elite player. A hole not so much. That was Geno Smith coming out of West Virginia. Jets players barest wanted to play with him. He ended up growing.

I was thinking the EXACT same thing. An out route is a very common pass at the Pro level. Certain coverages bait you to throw it over the middle. I wanted to see film and delve a tad deeper before jumping to conclusion but my first thought was yikes.

This is promising but we need to pump our breaks a bit. Not trying to sound like a party pooper, but the variables aren’t the same when comparing some of the best wide receivers in the game. Thielen wasn’t lining up against Jalen Ramsey or Stephen Gilmore regularly with his all-pro counterpart Jefferson on the other side. He regularly lined up against the #2 corner from the opposing team. That can’t be ignored when taking this kind of statistic into consideration. All things considered I still think he’s an excellent route runner and Thielen will find tons of openings due to his route running and expertise.

I don’t understand it either Jeudy has been widely inconsistent too. I believe on top of the injuries he finished in the top 3 on dropped passes in 20 and 21. He recovered last year but he still has the injury history.

Our head coach, offensive coordinator, QB coach, running back coach and assistant GM all know what’s it’s like(through experience) to be hit by a 315 pound man. Although I don’t have that in common with them, it makes me believe they will be very uncomfortable drafting Young at 1. I think it’s Stroud with a dark horse of ARich if they trade down. I say don’t get cute. Please just take Stroud.

Yeah I saw David Newton mention it. He really isn’t a good source. Can you confirm someone else acknowledging it ? Typically nose tackles are about 330 pounds to hold the point of attack and eat up space. I don’t see Shy holding up at Nose. Seems more like a rotational piece for defensive end.

Soooo are we really rolling with Derrick Brown at NT or will we get another huge Hog Molly outside of McCall. Derrick Brown at NT is such a waste isn’t it ? Nose tackle or 1 techniques purpose is to eat up blocks. I guess he could rotate to nose on obvious passing downs but yikes it seems like we need another big true nose.

Thought you were mistaken until I looked up his size. YGM is 6-5 265 …. Yikes perfect for 4-3 which we all know he has sucked. His size is to small for Edge in a 3-4 and to big for linebacker because he isn’t athletic enough.

I’m curious too. We may need Eflein and Cade Mays big time in camp. Our starting guards got hurt so late in the season. May take them some time to get back up to speed. I say keep him.

In a 3-4 defense Burns will not be a defensive lineman. He played in a 4-3 but his body type has always been suited more for a 3-4. Most of our defensive ends were better suited for a 3-4 (Edge rushing linebacker).

Bruh…… Only thing I can think of is he wants a haul, but I swear he fits our team philosophy and he fits our down south Carolina vibe. Love how active he was on a 1 year deal in the community. Imagine how he would amp it up on a 4 year deal.

Lol in fairness the arm length debate was mostly Rhule and any sheep that followed. I could be wrong but most Huddlers were trying to understand his dumb logic. Rhule used analytics to justify all the wrong things. While ignoring the analytics that would have helped the Panther org. So glad he is gone.

I get the viewpoint of digging deeper on all the QB’s from analyst an Huddlers, but we have been a QB deprived team for about 7 seasons now, due to our own malpractice with Cam. Our scouts and key personnel have already done their homework. We wouldn’t have traded the capital to get to 1 if there were THREE good quarterback prospects we trust. The reports out there that we like 3 or 4, that’s a smoke screen. I personally think our front office can see the increased probability of Levis getting them all FIRED. You can’t teach nano-second decision making. Levis doesn’t have it despite his other 5 star tools. The front office knows this is a microwave society and people want a product now, not in 2025 (A.Rich) side note: AR can be really good with time. Bryce is small. He’s the best player but we have too much NFL experience on our coaching staff to draft an anomaly like that. I think he can make it through a season but I do not think that body type bodes well for an injury free career. So no way we draft Levis. It’s CJ #1A with the slight possibility of going Bryce.

This is spot on. Our Panthers have other needs as a team, so I dont know if we can sign OBJ and Hardman. We do have some cap flexibility now but what’s recommended by other posters. That’s a stretch. We should give our best shot at the players you mentioned and maybe use our 3rd rounders and 4th rounders to help the switch to a 3-4 defense. We dont need a lot on the defensive side to convert as most of our Defensive ends should have been edge/linebackers in a 3-4 anyway.
