ELLIS L. WILLIAMS Of the OBSERVER on Jimmy G
CPantherKing replied to raleigh-panther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Garoppolo is better than any QB the Panthers have had and you all keep on trashing him like you have Peyton Manning available with the #6 pick. Garoppolo has been to 5 conference championships and 3 SBs with 2 different teams. The 49ers defense and coaching staff have only been able to win with one QB - they've started 5 QBs. That coaching staff and defense are a .500 team without Garoppolo. If this were pre Tommy John Jake Delhomme coming off his 2005 loss to the Seahawks at the age of 30, would you be calling him garbage and wanting him replaced with Darnold or a project rookie? Would you upgrade if that 2005 Delhomme were to hit the market? Is he the best? No. Is he good enough and better than most? Yes. Jimmy G is the best non-draft option available, and tied with a rookie for the #3 option with 2 rookies ahead of him. The only problem is drafting one of those rookies and going with Jimmy G would likely keep Rhule around longer. -
Penning was just mauling anyone he could get to. He did not respect the teams running lanes or the QBs pocket. He struggled to even move to his proper blocking assignment. This is much worse than the penalty issue. He is a wrecking ball for both the offense and the defense. The OL most likely to put your QB on the IR by throwing a speed rusher that beats him into the QBs knees.

I feel the Saints will double up on WR with their first 2 picks. They will bring in a mid-round QB they think highly of and believe will out compete Winston over the next 2 seasons. Dalton is there to groom the rookie QB. Book will be cut if they bring in the QB they have been talking to since February.

Ridder: 9 game winning drives and 6 losses. Took a mediocre team and coach and turned the program around in game 1 as a freshman before they even had a defense worth talking about. That defense took shape under Ridder's leadership in his Junior year. When a college QB's GWD>L you better take notice. This is not typical and you can go 5+ years before you see another one. This draft has 3 QBs that are tested and proven as game winners/leaders. They will translate to the NFL. The last draft with multiple QBs like this was 2012. Ridder is my #2 of the 3. Tom Brady had 8GWD and 5L at Michigan. No one listened to me then and dismissed Brady while the Panthers rode with Steve Beuerlein and Jeff Lewis. I wanted Steve Beuerlein, Tom Brady, and Dameyune Craig in 2000. Brady was the 5th QB I targeted in the draft as a franchise QB for the Panthers since 1995. I don't think the flash and cash crowd will ever stop putting QBs who can't cut it in the NFL at the top of the draft while ignoring the championship leader who has proven in college that he can make the in game decisions needed to win when it matters. Malik Willis has 1GWD and 6L. Pickett has 1GWD and 5L in the last 2 seasons (6GWD and 20L in 4 seasons). Sam Howell has 1GWD and 11L in the last 2 seasons (3GWD and 17L in 3 seasons). This level of production is bad in the NFL. It is horrible in college. QBs do not go from non-clutch 20% in college to clutch 40% in the NFL.

Garoppolo is not my pick to be the starter for the Panthers, but he is not as bad as people make him out to be. The 49ers were 31-14 with Jimmy G. If you were to remove Jimmy G's game winning drives, the 49ers would have been 22-23. That is a significant impact. If Mayfield were the QB over this period of time for the 49ers, I would project the 49ers to have a 28-16 record not go to SB 54, not beat the Rams to get into the playoffs, and not beat the Packers to get to the NFC Championship. Garoppolo converts 42% of his teams possible losses into wins. In comparison, Mayfield comes in at 19%, Watson comes in at 28%, Stafford comes in at 30%, Brady comes in at 42%, and Mahomes comes in at 43%. This is a measure of how effective a QB is at winning a game when the defense can't carry the game and the offense/coaching has failed to execute going into the 4th quarter. From a Panthers perspective, Cam Newton is 22%, Jake Delhomme was 38%, and Sam Darnold is 11%. Without diving into the complete model I use to measure a QB, this is the statistical foundation of what defines a successful QB in the NFL. I will say this Garoppolo > Newton > Mayfield > Darnold. I project 3 QBs from the draft to be as good or better than Garoppolo. I believe none of those 3 QBs will be taken in the 1st round.

This is the truth. If I got what I wanted, the Panthers would have drafted Stefon Diggs, Cooper Kupp, Christian Kirk, Chris Conley, Hunter Renfrow, and Van Jefferson. Needless to say the Panthers would have never needed to sign Robby Anderson.

NFL GM Power Rankings-ex Panther on top
CPantherKing replied to ladypanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Richardson did not want Beane to leave. He was being considered to replace Hurney, but Richardson wanted him to be groomed some more. Hurney left with the expectation that Rivera would remain the HC and Beane would become GM. So, Gettleman was suppose to be the bridge to Beane. Wouldn't you know it, Gettleman spoke to the Bills and gave Beane a glowing recommendation. Bills hire Beane. Richardson learns what Gettleman did and fires Gettleman shortly after he pulled that stunt to get rid of his competition. So, with Beane gone thanks to Gettleman hoping he would have security with Beane out of the picture, Richardson went back to Hurney. Richardson was upset with losing Beane to the Bills. Gettleman blindsided Richardson. That is the real legacy of Gettlemagic. The Bills seem to be the only team to have been rewarded with success due to Gettleman's decisions. Better luck next time Panthers and Giants. -
Desmond Ridder, Aqeel Glass, and Jack Coan. These are the QBs with the production that consistently transfer from college to NFL playoff success. Most seasons we are lucky to see one QB with this college production. 1998, 2012 and now 2022 are the only seasons that have had multiple QBs like this in the top 15 QB prospects. The others are backups and duds. Interested to see if Kaleb Eleby, EJ Perry, and Cole Kelley can land as NFL backups for the long haul.

Clarence Jones That 1999 offense was electric. Beuerlein had the time to put up yards with Muhammad, Jeffers, and Walls. They ran off of Clarence Jones effectively with any RB. Made Biakabatuka look superhuman until he got hurt again and again and again. Putting up 30 to 40 points game after game. That 1999 season tends to be forgotten because they came up short of the playoffs. Couldn't beat Washington, Lions, or Rams that year - the Rams miracle SB season. Defense let the Panthers down.
-
Why then have only 13 of the last 48 SB teams been able to break 30 points scored? Let me know when there are QBs putting up 30+ points on the regular in championship games. 2 of the last 3 QBs who won championship shootouts are not even starting in the NFL.

Is There Anyone Other Than a T or QB for the Panthers at #6
CPantherKing replied to Michael G's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you want the best defense in the NFL, you draft Devin Lloyd. -
So, you think teams losing every game and winning every game is probable in the NFL? That makes more sense to you? Obviously they prefer experiencing the losses people complained about under Rivera, than people celebrating the wins under Rhule. Sensible unless you support Rhule and think he will go 17-0.

Moving the chains may be eliminated soon.

Ball spotting is not done by a chip in the ball. Ball tracking optical tech like Hawk-Eye would be used to know where it should be spotted on the field. -
Not really. Losing with Rivera would result in more wins than winning with Rhule, which would result in more loses. Unless you want to keep piling up top 10 draft picks. Then you want to win with Rhule.

If you are all still wondering, it is Suh. He has had a serious problem with alcohol mixed with anger, recklessness, and vehicles since his days at Nebraska. Always having to swerve to miss those dogs and cats late at night while losing total control of his vehicle and doing significant property damage. Sucks down Kombucha and wine daily while mixing in harder drinks when he is out late at night. He loves the night life and Florida beaches. Suh enjoys drinking and crashing vehicles while being reckless. He always refuses medical attention for him and anyone he injures. Even if he wasn't severely intoxicated, he would reek of alcohol just from all the kombucha he drinks daily. Glad he hasn't hit a person while having to swerve and miss all those late night cats and dogs. Although, he did injure a woman who was in his car and refused her medical attention with 911 while telling her to get out and get her husband to drive her to the hospital. Then he lied to the police about how many people were in the car during the accident.
-
And while he is driving to practice to sweat it out from the early AM hours before morning practice, he is under the influence and would be an immediate GO TO JAIL DO NOT PASS GO when he ends someone's life in the state of Florida. Still intoxicated.

Ekwonu, Smith and Penning will be busts. Neal and Cross will be serviceable. None of the top 5 tackles will be all pro. Tackles are heavily overrated at the top just like the QBs. You can find mid round OTs just as good as the hyped prospects. Kinnard, Faalele, Tom, and Vrabel will be the best from this class. I wouldn't be shocked if several OTs from this class are moved to guard.

KC looking to trade up into top 10.
CPantherKing replied to DaveThePanther2008's topic in Carolina Panthers
If you're method of finding a QB has given you a list of more than 20 QBs over the past 20 seasons, you don't know how to pick a successful QB. QB insanity! The Chiefs want Devin Lloyd. Trying to jump the Broncos. You're welcome. -
Yet, the QBs who keep winning championships lead a team in the playoffs to game winning drives with their arms. Mahomes ran for over 100 yards in the playoffs in his SB run. Now, try to find another QB to do the same in their championship playoff run. The QBs who can win with their arm win championships. Good defenses destroy the running QB in the playoffs. I don't care about winning games against the worst teams in the NFL with the occasional upset because a QB can run. A consistent winner passes from the pocket and will audible to the run or screen since they can read/set up a defense. Mobility will always be optional and your QB should not run more than 6 times a game. If the team needs a QB to run more than 5 times a game to bail them out of these situations, then your team has more serious issues and is not ready for a championship. Does a QB need to run if you don't have a championship team? When a QB only needs to run 3 times or less out of 60+ plays in a game, does having a running QB really matter? Give me a QB with athletic instincts that shows up 90% of the time inside the pocket. I don't care about how fast he runs the 40 or how dangerous they can be on a 50 yard run. A QB with athletic instincts in the pocket will be able to intelligently choose those 3 times they need to run in the game - even if they run a 4.9 40.
-
He is slower than Kyler Murray and faster than Cam Newton. 4.4 to 4.45. Won't run a true 40 because he did not take the time to practice getting out of his start (don't blame him). He'd likely clock 4.5 with a bad start. If you consider him a project and running QB, you have to understand he will be 23 at the start of the season. Takes 3 years at best to work out all his problems. That puts him at 26. He has until 28 until his body starts breaking down and he has to focus more on pocket passing from being a running QB with 100+ attempts per season. If you don't plan on him rushing 100+ times in a season, then you don't want a running QB, and valuing that at QB is a waste. You will have a 2 year window to succeed with Willis as your starting QB if everything works out. After that, you have to rely on his pocket presence, pocket passing, and reading defenses. Is that worth a top ten draft pick? Doesn't even seem like its worth taking a QB like that in the 5th round. Huge time investment with a 2 year payoff. If you want to look flashy without winning championships for 6 seasons, Malik Willis is your guy.
-
The all pro 10 year centers always fall as we get closer to draft day. Teams would rather have those shiny toys moving up the draft board like Dwayne Jarrett, Ted Ginn Jr, Jamarcus Russell, and Brady Quinn. Then there are those stud OTs like Levi Brown to anchor your OL. They all climb up the draft boards while the undersized and possibly overrated 1st round center in Ryan Kalil falls because war rooms fall in love with trash projects, hype heroes and combine warriors. Teams would draft Matt Kalil and Sam Darnold over Ryan Kalil. Shows you how absurd and flawed most of these scouting departments and war rooms are with the old school ways. There's only 70 players in this draft worth a draft pick. 20 1st round picks will be wasted.
-
Well this tells us the Saints don't value taking a QB in the first 2 rounds. They've been too invested in scouting QBs not to take one. So, expect them to draft a 3rd round or later QB to develop into a starter. They have had their eye on Aqeel Glass.

Running QBs don’t win Superb Owls
CPantherKing replied to Lets go get it Canes's topic in Carolina Panthers
How many rushes in a season until you consider them a running QB? 50? 70? 100? There's been a SB winner from every one of those.
