I hope he proves me wrong but I didn't want him last year either and nothing changed for me. This year was historically bad but even before that he was never really anything better than average at best, and that was with some talented defenses in Denver.
-
Mara has 2 Super Bowls to show for his ownership tenure, I think he deserves a pass despite how absurd it is to keep the crew from this year around. Tepper has a pair of 7 win seasons to show for his ownership in 7 years. But yeah I'd be pretty pissed if I was a Giants fan.

I found a bit more info on it and he ran 3-3-5 like 18% of the time -- largely on obvious passing downs. Rest of the time was a combination of 4-3, 4-2-5, 4-1-6, with a tiny amount of 3-2-6. His base was 4 down linemen and he never had 4 linebackers on the field. Yeah he adapted a ton but it was very much based around a 4-3, NOT a 3-4.

Well that's a massive stain on Canales' promising finish to year 1. Terrible, terrible decision.
-
lol how did we finish 3rd in division and still pick ahead of the Aints? love it

I could see 10-11 wins with this schedule if we can fix the D a bit and the offense continues to build on the momentum from the last month or so. Those are somewhat big "ifs" though.

Fun to go to Jacksonville again; missed out on going there in the pool with the riot the last few times, hopefully it finally works out this year.
-
Probably goes back to KC and they get their elite numbers-compiling passing offense back to go with their elite defense and situational coaching, etc.

Victor Cruz 2.0. Hope he can stay healthy unlike Cruz. I think he can be a long term starter for us, but ideally as a #2 not our top guy. Maybe Legette can develop into that top guy but not a good rookie season.
-
Incredibly the only NFC team ahead of us is the Giants. Glad we're picking ahead of the Aints.

Shaq was healthy but honestly I don't think he was any better that year than Jewell this year. Chinn was a rookie and Snow got a ton out of him but yeah he was talented (I'm still pissed about how we wasted that dude's career). No Chinn this year but Evero had him last year and had absolutely zero clue how to use him so Snow getting a lot out of Chinn that year doesn't exactly help Evero's case. Horn is the only truly elite talent across both of these defenses I would say, and puts this year ahead of 2020. Brown became elite last year but in 2020 he was still very raw as a rookie.

4-3 base with most of the snaps having 4 down linemen. But yeah he ran a ton of different sets to change things up, kinda like Belichick did in New England all those years. Definitely a fair amount of 3-3-5, a lot of 4-2-5, some 4-1-6 even. Don't think he ever really had 4 LBers on the field -- if he was taking out a down lineman he was putting the replacement in the secondary.

I'd be cool with trying out a Rivera reunion but that said he was pretty awful with the Commanders recently when he took over calling defensive plays after firing the DC. Also he wasn't exactly great at calling plays here when he took over as defensive playcaller the year in his last year I believe. I think some of that can be chalked up to him having all the head coaching duties on his plate too and not being fully prepared to be calling plays (both times he took over midseason) or having full focus on defense. My hopes wouldn't be extremely high but he is an intriguing option with high upside and be a nice reunion as despite his faults as a HC he was an awesome dude and extremely well liked in the community and by players. Wonder if Luke would be interested in coaching LBers under Ron...

2020 Carolina Panthers season - Wikipedia Our defensive roster was definitely worse in 2020, not even a debate. Remember this is well before Brown broke out and Burns was only in his 2nd year. And Phil Snow had them top 10 in the league. Yes the roster this year was bad too, but Evero was just flat out terrible.
-
He's terrible and I really just can't fuging stand the 3-4 defense. You have to have such a stacked roster with personnel specific to a 3-4 for a 3-4 to work and not get totally gashed by the run (which we have been every single year we've run a 3-4 even back when Ron switched to it to try to save his ass). Rhule may have sucked but at least he had our defense far overperforming their talent level with Snow running his 4-3. No brainer to can Evero and hire someone to run a 4-3. I'd even be all for considering Rivera as DC if he was open to a reunion.

Coming off a 5 win season absolutely not. Let's see how next year goes. I'm still not sold on any of Morgan, Canales or Bryce. Next year will be a very telling season for all 3. Tepper still sucks until he proves he can hire successful people and not meddle with them. Maybe this current crew winds up successful but only time will tell. I'm definitely not convinced that Tepper won't start meddling if things don't get exactly as planned to start next season.

if only the bucs had also lost so we could've been the ones to knock the falcons out of the playoffs

KOC has exceeded my expectations and obviously I’d love to have him over Canales, but I still think Harbaugh is the better coach and Chargers will be better off than the Vikings.

Bryce Young post benching if it were a full season worth of stats.

Incredibly stupid to include the rush stats in with the passing stats, just separate them out and then project. Also let’s see yards per attempt. That passer rating is still bottom of the league. He’s not a good QB, people who still think he’ll be our franchise guy are blind -
I don't think we really need to do all that much on offense other than backup QB and backup RB and maybe some depth WR. All of which can be found for relatively cheap. We will come nowhere near competing next year and we do have some potentially good younger pieces on offense, but pretty much none on D other than Horn (great year but still questionable durability) and Brown (assuming his great year wasn't a one-off and he can get back to that level of play post-injury). Getting young pieces on D should be this organization's largest priority for the roster. Well, after QB. But seems like we are sticking with Bryce which is a mistake, and this year's QB crop isn't really that good. Ward could be interesting if we are in a position to draft him but I view him more as mid-late 1st and would prefer D in the top 5-10 this draft. QB can wait a year.
-
2025 NFL Free Agents Not really. plenty of options for cheap.
-
I'd sign a legit 1b or top backup in FA before drafting one. Late day 3 I'm fine with, but not sure there's much of a difference between those guys and UDFAs at that point. We need defense help so badly I'm in favor of not even scouting offense this draft. Go offense in FA.

Evero is coaching one of the worst defenses in NFL history. Yeah we've had injuries on that side of the ball and lack talent but that is still inexcusable. Rivera isn't the answer either but he's definitely better than Evero

OFFICIAL Panthers vs Buccaneers Game Day Thread
t96 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
I’m in FL about an hour from Tampa and never even considered going to this game. Pre-Tepper I wouldn’t have considered missing it. Thanks Dave -
Seeing CJ crying like that mid game over a pretty normal football injury was pretty crazy and has me questioning if his dude will ever really be an elite QB who can contend for a title. Don’t get me wrong I’m not saying it’s bad or anything to show emotion, it’s definitely something that should be seen as normal for men to do in general. But these are supposed to be modern day gladiators man. Luke is like the gentlest dude in the world and on the field on game days shifted into being a psycho monster. I could never ever picture any of the elite QBs out there losing their composure mid game like that over a normal injury. I mean seriously, can you picture Rodgers, Brees, Brady, Manning, Mahomes crying over an injury? Lol. They’d shrug it off immediately and be right back ready to go and try to win the game. Something like Hamlin, yeah absolutely. But a knee injury? It sucks yeah but it’s part of the game, QB as the leader needs to get his poo together and get the rest of the team to still be fully focused on winning the game. Next man up. Maybe it winds up being nothing but it felt out of place and odd to me.
