Yeah the whole pairings just seem weird. Like what looks to be the first team o-line is playing with the second team rb’s and wr’s and what looks to be the second team o-line is playing with the first team rb’s and wr’s… Not exactly sure how the eventual starters are supposed to be build a rapport with this method but maybe it’s just a week one thing and they’ll start to sort players out next week.

Ha save me a seat.

Bozeman isn’t a rookie, he was a starter for a better team than the Panthers last year. I’m all for making guys earn their stripes but Bozeman has already earned his and we are paying him handsomely to be the starting center (although it’s only a one year deal). The pairings were… Sam - Christensen - Jordan - Elflein Baker - Ickey - Christensen - Bozeman The problem is that the first team OL is not matched up either the first team wide outs… so it’s hard to get a true gauge of what the team could look like. Obviously just the first practice but this is collegesque.

Can he even pass a physical? Dunlap is definitely the preference but if Ford can come in and be a situational pash rusher then I’d be about it. It’s unlikely Brandon Smith will be contributing this year so it would be nice to have someone else to provide a bit of a pass rush outside of Burns and maybe Haynes.

That’s facts and probably took on more hate than Darnold.
-
For sure, if you gave me $30M then I’d let you call me whatever the hell you want, I just think Darnold is a pretty sensitive dude.
-
Dude has taken all of this better than anyone I’ve ever seen. For his sake I hope he develops into a decent backup QB at the very least and manages to carve out a career for himself. Nothing wrong with being a Matt Schaub or Chase Daniel.

For me it was Bozeman getting second team reps behind Elflein. I said in another thread that it seems as if Rhule is going to make every new acquisition show that they are better than what’s in front of them. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with that but it’s definitely a collegesque approach to have that philosophy with every position and every player. I don’t necessarily think I’d have that same approach with a pro team.

Corral has some serious zip on his passes and they come out quick.
-
Well it was 7 on 7’s and 11 on 11’s so there is still a first and second team. As of right now I’ll agree that it means nothing but it’s interesting that Rhule is showing loyalty to every player that was a part of last years roster. I can understand the Darnold/Mayfield situation as Mayfield hasn’t been here long but Bozeman has been with the team since early in free agency. It seems as if Rhule is going to make every new acquisition show that they are better than what’s in front of them. There’s not necessarily anything wrong with that but it’s definitely a collegesque approach to have that philosophy with every position.

Agreed, I don’t like Rhule, I still question nearly everything he does.. but this is to be expected. If we are still doing this come the second preseason game then it’ll be a little concerning but I’d prefer not to panic on the first day.

Liked the video of Taylor’s INT, said in another thread, but we’ve seen many a Panthers DB get Nakamura’d in that exact same scenario. Hopefully he continues to progress. Horn, Jackson, Henderson, Taylor, and Barnes is a pretty deep group when healthy. STOIII and Westry are also right there fighting for Barnes’ spot. The OL tidbit was interesting, Rhule is certainly being loyal to his guys from last year. Trotting out Christensen, Jordan, and Elflein first was a wow moment for me.
-
I think it’s Rhule just really sticking to his guys from last year and making the new guys come in and prove themselves, regardless of if they are rookies or five year vets. It would have been nice to know how Christensen did at LG. Hopefully he does well and we can trot out Ekwonu - Christensen - Bozeman - Corbett - Moton

https://www.panthers.com/news/camp-observations-baker-mayfield-makes-his-debut Taylor’s INT is in the link above, nice pick, have seen many a Panthers DB get Nakamura’d in that same situation. Also of interesting note, Elflein took first team reps at center over Bozeman, it was already mentioned that Jordan took first team reps at LG. So the first team offensive line was… Christensen - Jordan - Elflein - ? - Moton
-
Damn… look at that… Baker gets to run with the first team tomorrow. All the chicken little’s can sleep tight knowing this. “Mayfield took all of his work with the second offense Wednesday, with incumbent Sam Darnold working with the ones. Head coach Matt Rhule said that would flip Thursday, with Mayfield getting to practice with the first set of receivers.”
-
I want to see Darnold do this just one time.

Was not just you, seemed like day 15 not day 1.

That’s fine but don’t waste your assets on the bench and let them walk for nothing when the time comes. Gary Payton is just as good of a player as Martin and probably the closest comparison that there is to Martin in the NBA and Golden State will be replacing him with Moody next year. Moody was selected two spots after Bouknight. Point being you eventually have to let the guys you draft try. If you don’t then it’s a revolving door of young players that you lose for nothing.
-
Already responded to this… entitlement has nothing to do with his status and everything with how he presents himself. The moxie that he had as a walk-on turned into straight up entitlement when he started to make a name for himself. The guy let fame get to him real quick and in reality the trade to the Panthers probably saved his football career because it certainly knocked him down a few rungs. Rhule is making him earn his keep and he looks like he’s working really hard. At the end of the day I’m fine with him being who he is but doing it for your team and you, don’t do it at the expense of tearing down someone else. The flag plant, the midfield scuffle with Baylor, and just his overall reaction to the Browns situation we’re childish. Hopefully he’s on the right track now that everything seems to be behind him and he’s got a fresh start. It’s still critical that the Panthers make him earn his keep though.
-
Are you serious? It has nothing to do with him being a walk-on or what his ranking out of of HS was. Every day people can be prideful and entitled… hell, your garbage man can be entitled. It has absolutely nothing to do with is social status or athletic status and everything to do with his persona. Planting the flag against Ohio State, getting into it with Baylor at midfield, etc… not to mention the woe is me act after the Browns acquired Watson… notice Darnold didn’t act the same way when the Panthers acquired Mayfield. Entitlement has nothing to do with status, thinking so is asinine. There’s examples of Karen’s all over the internet acting entitled at Starbucks and they are probably your local banker… it doesn’t stop them from being entitled.
-
Rightfully so, you bring grass in to get Chelsea in here knowing good and well that they won’t play on turf because it’s a protection issue and then immediately go back to turf once Chelsea leaves… seems like our owner cares more about a football team across the pond than the football team and his players in his own back yard.
-
Between this thread and the one about Rhule stating that the players will decide the QB completion based off of their play… we might need to start requiring posters to include a bibliography at the end of their post. Context and full quotes are key, along with basic reading comprehension.

That makes more sense, thanks!

Trading them for second round picks and then keeping those second round players over the lottery picks that we do have seems to be the game plan. I just don’t understand the whole Martin contract… give Bouknight a chance to develop and if he doesn’t then draft another defensive two guard next year to replace him and move him out for some sort of compensation. The Hornets asset managing is astounding.
