I was stationed in the UK during the mad cow thing.  I still can't give blood because of it.

Long story short, I was adopted & knew it since I can remember.

My mom's dad (a member of the 761st in WWII btw) had a friend/neighbor who was a member of the 332nd in WWII. Yes the Tuskegee Airmen.

I started randomly "adopting" people when I was about 5 & granddad died a year later. Mr./Cpt. J took over granddad duties whenever I was up there, he didn't have to, but did out if love & respect, so its in honor of him.

That's cool.  I was in the 332nd Air Expeditionary Group while deployed in Iraq with the A10s from the 23rd Fighter Group before Pope AFB closed.

Funny how that happens huh? No one, well anyone that knew me, would have ever thought I WOULD NOT be a Cowboys fan during that time. I've been football crazy since I was about 5 years old, no lie. My mother said she would catch me watching football instead of cartoons on Saturday. Have ALWAYS been passionate about football, at that time, especially the Dallas Cowboys (no idea how I became a Cowboys fan)... that being said, it's funny how our psyche would much rather have our own territorial army to root for. So much so that you would just give up a team you had been so passionate for since you were, well... old enough to remember, lol. I was a Panthers fan from day one! I remember their first pre-season, first game ever against Jacksonville in the HOF game... I was in Germany watching on the Armed Forces Network!!

I was in Kuwait sitting in the flight line chow hall watching the game.

I was a casual steelers fan before Carolina, but since I am from here I figured it would be ok to jump on the Panther bandwagon.

I'm just saying top talents don't leave their teams, extensions and Franchise Tags prevent that, if we were to get a guy it'd be ala the Peyton Manning / Tom Brady route old with a small window. Could that happen with a guy like Rodgers, or if Russell is unhappy in SEA who knows.

It's why you draft the young man with talent when you have the chance. Coaching guys up is part of it, but just like Chip Kelley found out the NFL is not ''plug and play'' and I feel like that's what we're doing.

When I watch the clips it sounds like they talked themselves into Darnold thinking that Fields wouldn't fall once SF moved up.

Then when Fields was there and we'd given up 3 picks for Darnold to save face they took BPA at a position of need ON DEFENSE. After literally DEVOTING the entire 2020 class to defense. I like the class this year, if you swap Fields for Horn, man oh man. That's something to HAVE BEEN excited about as we move forward. With Darnold, most are annoyed because he hasn't been good, and now we're stuck hoping we can 'turn it around' the 'fresh start' narrative.

When was the last time that worked? Not being facetious I'm genuinely asking, when was the last young failed QB picked up and went onto to NFL success....

Gabbert, Rosen, Haskins, Bortles, Mariotta, WInston (maybe TBD), EJ Manuel, etc. all no's.

I am not a football historian, but I believe Steve Young, Bret Favre, and Curt Warner are 3 hall of fame qb who found success with their second or third teams.  Carson Palmer, and Drew Brees were not the definitive franchise qb until their second stop, our own Jake may kind of fit in that category as well.  Currently Tanahill, (not sure on spelling) is playing much better with his second team.  I don't know if Sam is the answer, but there have been several qb who have been successful after leaving their first team.

I imagine Fayetteville is a rougher city than Charlotte.

Thats good to know.  We live in the country outside Fayetteville and I avoid going into the more questionable areas after dark.

Sounds like he should be ok as long as he stays smart and keeps his eyes open.

The area around uncc honestly isn’t great, but he’ll be fine. Typical college area stuff. I’m sure he’ll spend his time on campus or taking the light rail uptown.

As for food, nothing special up that way really. I grab dinner around there every Thursday night. Lots of ‘typical’ places right by campus to choose from. Just pull up your google map.

Thanks.  He is staying on campus and is taking his car.  He is 22 and has a good head on his shoulders, but like all parents I will worry a little.  I will be sure to tell him to stay aware of his surroundings around campus.

He went to NCSU for a year, but I am from the Raleigh area and knew the areas to avoid.

Charlotte is a safe city. There is really no area you couldn’t walk through and be fine. It isn’t a large city like that.

The ‘shady’ areas though would be pretty much directly west. And directly east until hitting Mint Hill.

There are some spotty areas around UNCC but nothing major.

None of it is really major. If you’ve navigated around cities like Shitlanta, LA (or really any city in CA sides SF), NYC, Detroit, Portland, Boston, Baltimore, DC, Miami, Las Vegas, etc etc. Charlotte is a cakewalk in every sense of the word.

Thanks for the info.  I am retired Air Force and he hasn't lived around any big cities.  The roughest place he has been exposed to is where we live now,, Fayetteville.  We pretty much know where to avoid around here.

  8. Sorry about the off topic thread.

I know many of you are in Charlotte or from the area.  I am not very familiar with the city.  What are the areas he should avoid and what areas are fairly safe?  What is a reasonably  priced place close to campus to grab dinner before we leave him and head home?

    Thanks in advance.

thanks. it's frikking miserable. the pain i had before was really bad, but recovery from the surgery has been rough. the pain and level of discomfort post surgery has made me question if getting the surgery was a good idea. i'm not good at this whole one arm thing.  i even had to relearn how to wipe my butt.

Hang in there, I had my left shoulder joint roto rootered a few years ago.  Easily the most pain I have ever been in.  Had to have help tucking my shirts in and therapy was a bitch.  Took a year to finally get back to normal and it was almost worth it.  Back to limited movement after 10 years...

    Roethlisberger didn't have twenty-two accusers.

And unfortunately, though he probably shouldn't have, Roethlisberger wound up getting away scot free. I'm far from convinced that's gonna happen with Watson.

I actually read quite a bit on the Ben and Kobe cases. I was curious how they were handled and if I would agree with the results.

Ben's case I believe the same thing the judge said, 2 parties were extremely intoxicated and both made decisions they both were in no condition to make.

The Kobe case was a lot more gray and I couldn't really form an opinion.  I would have needed to see nonverbal cues to determine who was being truthful.

I think this will only accelerate the adoption of working and educating remotely. There will be some really cool poo on that front that emerges from this IMO.

My oldest has her masters in special need education.  (yes I am bragging, very proud)

She is a teacher in Seattle,  we had a long conversation about the challenges she is going through.  There is absolutely no way she could actually do her job remotely. Those kids need the social interaction.

  12. There is also something else going around.

My mother had pneumonia, the daughter of her next door neighbor also has it.  I know my mom tested negative for Corona, I was there.

Mother in law just got diagnosed with pnumonia, they administered the test and will know the results in 3 days they said.  She is 72 and a lung cancer survivor.  Really worried about this

I took my mother into Duke med in Raleigh on Thursday.  She also had pneumonia,  test came back negative, but we were in the hall way of the er from around 3:00pm and finally got into a room at 5:30am Friday morning.

She is home now, doing better but dr was worried.
