Well, I'm sold

I don't remember what analyst said it but he mentioned that Hall of Fame Coach Bill Walsh use to tell his scouts to discard a player's top 5 worst highlights along with their top 5 best highlights, and somewhere in-between is the best gauge of projecting how said player will translate to the pros.
That's how they judge gymnastics routines.
Throw out the top score and the bottom score and keep the rest.

Exactly two days ago no one on this entire board would be calling Miles Sanders an elite RB or a target in free agency.
Last offseason the Philly media wanted to move on from him becuase he was declining. Philly had an incredible year and Miles had a good year, but Miles didn't really improve as a pass catcher and there was a lot less attention on him with all of Philly's weapons.
As I said on page 2 or so of this thread, I like the signing and he can be a #1 back for us, but then when I saw the money, I thought we overpaid by quite a bit. 4/25 is a lot of money for someone like him. But hopefully there's an out after this year or next in case he doesn't live up to expectations.
I'm guessing we paid 20-30% above market value to get him to come here over stay in Philly
Actually several guys on here had been talking about Sanders and hoping he signed here.
Opinions are not facts.

People kept looking for an ulterior motive when Kuechly retired.
There wasn't one. Guys are learning to pay attention to their health.
-
Most guys seem to get that it's a business so they don't take things personally.
But yeah,some do.
And then you've got guys like Rodgers

Nick Saban was plugging his guy, I get that, but his comments about what is between Young’s ears as being something special was telling to me. He talked about processing quickly and making everyone else better. I like that. He said he did that as good as anyone he has been around
I love everything about Bryce Young...
... except that one thing

Honestly we will never get this information but this pick is Young or Stroud and I personally think it is Young.
We might.
The full backstory of the discussions behind the Newton pick came out not that long after it occurred.
Teams generally don't care if you know when they were bluffing once the poker game is over.

I blame 15 years of Marty Hurney as GM.
Marty didn't know sh-t about receivers.
The one guy he can claim to have gotten right was heavily influenced by Norv Turner.

There is no way David Tepper sitting at that table listening to that doesn’t go ballistic. A plan doesn’t include “we will think on it”. IMO they probably already know who they are picking. Outside of some crazy off the field development they are going to pick that player. This group of coaches are very level headed unlike prior regimes.
If you're smart, it does.
Our own people have stated numerous times that talking to the players is extremely important to what they do. That's why the pro days and visits and such are so valuable.
Ask yourself which is better: knowing the pick soon or getting the pick right?
They have until Draft Day to debate this if they do desire. And as long as they get it right, where's the problem if it takes till then to do so?

Do we know that?
I mean you have decent odds of landing a pretty good QB prospect where we were. Maybe that’s largely Dave that wanted to give up our 2023, 2024 and best player for the #1.
He tried to go for Watson last offseason. Stafford. Always looking for a big splash that often ran counter to the “narrative” we were trying to build things from the ground up and take it slowly. He just struck out on making it happen. But we kept trying for something big.
Who knows. Whatever Tepper is or isn’t….a I doubt it is going to drastically change.
From the behind the scenes stories of the search, yeah we do.
What we don't know is if he'll continue.

You seriously believe they sat around the table and said to each other “we don’t know who we want but lets do this”. Doesn’t feel like reality. They went up to 1 for at most 2 guys but they definitely have a target and it isn’t AR or Levis
I seriously believe they say around and said, "we could take this guy, or this guy, maybe that guy if we do some more research on him".
That's reasonable, and reports have said that's exactly what they're doing.
The notion that they have to be settled on only one guy rather than two or three to do this has no basis in fact.

If we did all of this to trade up and we end up drafting Bryce Young, I may hang myself.
Hang a Saints fan instead.

Dude. They 100% know who they are taking. They would not have traded all that capital if not. Don’t kid yourself
See above
Hell, if you read the story of the Cam Newton discussion, that decision wasn't made till pretty late in the process. And there's no Cam Newton in this draft.

If we're locked in and stopped evaluating more than six weeks, out... that's not a good sign. Evaluate until the end. We're talking about your relevance, reputation, and the fans here. Leave no stone unturned, and time unused.
Exactly...

I hope it's just bullshit - no way you trade that much and don't have a guy you want.
I've seen a lot of folks subscribe to that logic, but it's not really valid.
You trade to be able to pick whoever you ultimately want, and in doing so this early they've given themselves plenty of time to decide that.
The notion that they absolutely have to know right now is a fallacy.

Nobody knows. Rumor is that we aren’t even entirely sure just yet, though that’s hard for me to imagine. But nobody outside of our organization has a clue right now.
With none of their pro days or visits having happened, I suspect that's the real truth.

Not free agency but big news nonetheless...
Prepare to see Commanders fans dancing in the streets.

I mean, the coaching staff is like going McDonalds to Ruth’s Chris. There is no denying that.
But we don’t know what Tepper really is. Bad owners are bad owners. Add talent or coaches…..they generally show themselves regardless. NFL is generally pretty clear. Based on track record, if you had to slant Tepper as good or bad he does look like he might be a bad one to date. But it’s too early to know
I judge who Tepper is by how much he stays out of things.
So far this offseason, he's doing pretty well.
