  1. Bingo. So people need to understand this in the event that Corral doesn't become more than a backup and not freak out on the kid. Have REASONABLE expectations. If he exceeds them, amazing. If he doesn't, that's fine too.
  2. Yeah, still mad about the 3rd rounder we traded but it was much better than it could be.
  3. The league as a whole basically made moves in free agency to handle QB openings because this QB class was so poor.
  4. If he loses the job conclusively to Darnold, that's when I am gonna turn on Fitterer pretty hard.
  5. I don't know how much I consider it throwing him to the wolves if he is just plain better. That's what I mean, if he wins the job....he's the guy. He's gonna have some growing pains if he starts in Game 1 or Game 14.
  6. I am not going to calibrate by our staff's standards because they have proven conclusively that they have no fuging idea what they are doing. He's a third rounder, so I have no intentions of saddling him with 1st round expectations. If he falls flat on his face as a player, I will gripe about the 3rd rounder and skewer the coaches but I am not gonna get upset at a 3rd round draft pick QB for not ending up being a franchise player.
  7. I'm glad you made me wrong and stuck around. Sadly, I don't think it is going to go well for you. Welcome to Jets 2.0.
  8. Actually their run of draft success was relatively small. They have done a pretty poor overall job the past few years.
  9. You mean after trying unsuccessfully lure a FA QB.
  10. I mean....if he wins the job you start him, IMO. If he is the best guy, put him out there and let him learn. If you find out he isn't the guy, so be it. He was just a third rounder, not the #6 overall pick. Kid gloves are for guys that aren't ready. Supposedly he is one of the couple of guys that might actually be ready.
  11. That really shouldn't happen. As a 3rd rounder, his expectation should be solid backup QB. Expecting more than that is unfair(see Grier, Will). Anything more than that just means it was a better and better draft pick.
  12. And let me be clear, I don't have the prospect or the position we drafted him in. Corral was my #2 guy and 3rd round is great value for a QB gamble. I bristled at the cost of the extra 2023 third. I don't want to keep this draft deficit continuing because it seems like we have a propensity to try and "make up" for those lost picks rather than just take your medicine and re-stock. Corral is a very good guy to gamble on. His limitations are way less than some of the other prospects.
  13. If they thought he was a franchise QB they would have taken him at 6. They know he isn't.
  14. It worked at one time. It has failed pretty dramatically in recent years. I agree that it is all about evaluation but we aren't seeing great evidence of that ability, either.
  15. This is why I was so mad about giving up that 3rd round 2023 pick. You need to maximize your 1st-3rd round picks to get starters and quality backups. These are the critical rounds. The idea that you can consistently nail 4th round or lower picks is absurd. Even being in the top 5% of success rate for those rounds, it's still very low in the NFL. We cannot keep shipping off these 2nd and 3rd round picks and effectively build a roster stocked with cheap talent.
  16. It does if 2-3 of those picks pan out. If you have less than that, it just looks more like you have no idea what you are doing. The final story isn't written on the 2021 draft class by any means. But the early returns were far lower than I expected and that was as someone who was relatively down on the class.
  17. I disagree because of the previously referenced differences in fundamental philosophy regarding drafting. He would rather have two nickels than a dime. I just disagree with that.
  18. We hope. I am starting to come to grips with the reality that Tepper really is far dumber than we think and does buy into what Rhule is selling him. He might indeed be here for the long term, regardless of results.
  19. Yeah, that is the college mentality. They see attributes and think they can coach them up and develop then. That’s a fundamental misunderstanding of the NFL. If you already aren't fairly well developed, it means that you probably don't work hard to develop yourself or you just aren't gonna cut it. Almost every later draft pick this year has massive red flags that limit their ability to be anything more than special teams players. Which.....they are late round draft picks. It is what it is.
  20. We should at least get a starter and maybe long term starter at LT. If so, it was a net win. The rest of the draft is pretty laughable. If Corral can at least be a journeyman backup level player, then his price would at least be worth it. The rest of the players, well....it's an uphill battle for any player not in the top 3 rounds. If they don't pan out, it's not a tragedy, just a probability.
