  1. he loved to bite on any double move, never became a pro.
  2. Yeah I guess Rees didn't develop into what we thought he would, was a 2nd rounder now traded for a 6th round pick. Smaller guy who really doesn't have any offensive upside and has been injured 3 or 4 times. When you have a farm system like the Canes do now you have to stay healthy and develop.
  3. BOA would be empty...... I think this is a terrible move by the Sabres, the optics aren't good at all.
  4. I agree with most of you priorities. I think Turbo should follow Jarvis as a priority as well if he fits within our whole "salary structure." I think Martinook may be back on a team friendly deal and Noesen shouldn't break the bank either. Skjei will be looking for a nice bump with term and Chatty will be getting a raise too. I do hope if Guentzel plays well and looks good with us that we at least attempt to sign him, there are articles/tweets out there saying we are looking at him as a pure rental which is something the committee has never really done. It should be interesting.
  5. I cannot find a post I read on one of the hockey message boards - it was either HF Boards or a Caps related board, but someone posted that Kuznetsov had been unhappy in Washington for around 3 years. They said he never really enjoyed living in the Washington area and when Laviolette became coach he hated his system and could never get comfortable in it...got moved around different lines and got even more disenchanted. I really hope this move pays off, Kuz isn't old or anything....I just think all the league thought he was damaged goods that couldn't be patched up.
  6. I guess Buffalo has an active market due to proximity to Canada??
  7. Skjei has to be a priority over Pesce....and Pesce has always been one of my favorites since he came aboard. Skjei has been more durable and has more offensive upside overall.
  8. The real key to if this trade was worth it is how well Guentzel plays with our guys and in the playoffs and if we re-sign Guentzel. A Cup, no matter who you acquire, is not a given. We gave up Pono and Koivunen and a low 1st/high 2nd, not really concerned about Cruz or the 5th. As noted we have room to add another player - personally I would try to get Vatrano, but I am sure the competition will be pretty high. Jason Zucker might be interesting, he was held out last night because he might be traded. I think I mentioned he might be a good fit last year.
  9. Yeah I meant this year and next. Raanta's deal was just 1 yr.
  10. I believe Freddie has a 2 year deal, he may retire due to medical concerns which is fine but I don't see him not playing if he can. All the guys we waived probably clear.
  11. I was thinking I'd offer them this upcoming draft's 1st and next years 1st and ask for their 3rd back in 2025. He has term and they are retaining 50%.
  12. I'd do that as well with the Blues retaining 50%. They should be low 1st rounders if we play well.
  13. Vancouver, Las Vegas, and Colorado in an arms race in the West!
  14. and those bottom 6 prospects plus 1st round draft picks, plus other picks can get players we would want. I don't want to give up players like Pono, FUS, Nikishin, Morrow who will probably be on our NHL roster starting as early as next year. It's all in the ask of the other team and what we kind of offers we are competing with.
  15. No, I don't think teams will trade a scorer for (I think you meant) scraps, but unlike you and some others I look a few years down the road where we will have to replace some of our core guys and I'd like to actually have good players we developed. I have named plenty of players that aren't "scraps" in our system and picks are in play too. Those assets can get it done. If the Rangers or Vegas want to overpay then let them.
  16. Fine, pivot to Buch, Vatrano, Reilly.......heck maybe think about Zegras who can skate with our guys and maybe just needs a change of scenery.
  17. Team has to play well in front of Freddie his first few starts, get him back in the groove. Pyotr getting solid minutes has made me feel better about him moving forward.
  18. What I would be willing to trade: Rees, Suzuki, rights to Alexander Perevalov, a D prospect not named Nikishin or Morrow, and picks. Rees and Suzuki are both solid players that will probably be bottom 6 forwards in the NHL, Perevalov is an unsigned prospect with good upside. We have D prospects teams would love to have. As far as players on the active roster: TDA and Drury are the only ones I see being moved in a trade.
  19. I think YGM played well last year, but he lacks the speed/explosiveness to be "that EDGE" that helps elevate Burns's game. It's why he can't even be considered to play LB....his overall speed. I will say YGM is much better against the run than Burns.
  20. Another bad decision made by the former regime - letting Riddick walk for what Philly paid him. We could have easily signed him to the same deal. The key to increasing Burns value to this defense is another EDGE who demands attention/respect. If you don't add that then get ready for a heavy dose of running at Burns side from other teams and Burns putting up numbers similar to last year's.
  21. I see where you are coming from and I agree we need a top 6 forward for sure. We just haven't been able to put together the right deal for one. Last year we were very close with Svech injured and ran into Playoff Bob who burned his "heater" out getting Florida to the Cup where he became a human sieve against Vegas (who would have been difficult for the Canes to beat too, although I think we would have given them the biggest challenge). If Bobrovsky doesn't play like he did last spring we beat Florida. My point is this team *can* win a Cup without another top 6 added, but the guys in the room have to sacrifice every ounce of their being to get it. The 2006 team was beaten, bruised, and battered and we only knew how bad after they won the Cup. That's what it takes....getting to the dirty areas, winning puck battles, scoring ugly goals, blocking any shot you can (and I think this team needs to find this part of the game) to win a Cup. #LetsGoCanes #TakeWarning #CauseChaos
  22. I know some Canes fans think the "big" name forwards available are the key to a Cup, but let me just point to New Jersey last year who paid big for Timo, the biggest name available, just to lose to us in the playoffs and now are plodding through a miserable year. Well thought out decisions are better than impulse all day, every day. I have been happy that the Canes always seem to be in contention and I know there is a window for a cup, but I don't want stupid decisions destroying the Canes like what has happened to the Panthers. Give me a fair deal for Buch, kick the tires on Vatrano and Reilly, and see what you can come out with. Our D will be OK even if we trade TDA and we aren't getting a goalie. We are rolling with the D and G we have. It's all about the forwards.
