  1. Okay, if you're going to bring up rookie mistakes as failure in coaching (as though we hold rookie players to the same standard) then I'd counter that not repeating those mistakes is representative of a positive in terms of his coaching ability. He didn't build the O-Line. The GM and the available free agents did. And that's not even a slight on Fitt. There was no one on the market we could practicably get. ...And really? Cam is the hill you're gonna choose to die on? Are you really going to hold up not renewing Cam as a failure of coaching? Knowing what we know now, moving on from Cam was 100% the right move. And Teddy was really the only option. Rhule made mistakes, I grant you, and from where I'm sitting he's not repeating them. However, regardless of what his moves were, no one was coming into the situation in Carolina and succeeding the last 2 years. NFL-experienced coordinators or not, he would have been rolling with broken down Cam or Teddy, and the best O-Line the FA market would bear out.
  2. The truth is there's not a single NFL head coach, who could come in and get more than 5 wins in the first two years with the team and the roster Rhule had. No offensive line. A total of 10 games out of 33 with CMAC, and starting Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold at QB. You show me any coach in the NFL who could have simply coached a team into a winning record in that situation and I'll show you a zero calorie cheesecake. You can't. Because there isn't one. He's contributed to improving the roster, he's replaced his college coordinators and assistants with people with real NFL experience, and he's cut out the "DBO" coaching young men nonsense. He's improved in every area you all were bitching about last year. So I guess the only solution was to move the goal posts further. 5-win seasons suck, but I'd much rather believe we have a coach trending in the right direction than wishing for him to fail. I'm not saying I have full faith in Rhule. I am saying you all have an impossibly high standard for success, and want to speed run to another tear down and reconstruction. Because that's so fun as a fan to endure.
  3. Honestly, the strength of our schedule. I think we've done as much as we could to be successful this offseason, and the strides we've made are very impressive. But it might not be enough if some of the teams continue on the trajectory they were last year, or get hot at the right time. I look at our schedule and, damn, I wouldn't even call the Lions a gimme this year. We have to run through the NFC West that could produce 3 playoff teams. The easiest games we'll have all year are probably in our own division, but considering what a crap-shoot division games are odds-wise, I wouldn't count on them either. My concern, is we have find ways to win games that on paper we should lose. At least we're only playing the Bills in the Preseason!
  4. That's the BEST case?! Holy poo it's embarrassing that you people call yourselves fans
  5. I'm not a Corral doubter. But holding up Matt Corral's rocky NFL debut and weak foot as evidence of failure of Rhule's coaching is dumb. In fact it shows he was right to bring him along slowly. His job isn't to pave the way for a third round QB. It's to get an NFL team ready for a 17 game NFL season.
  6. Matt was not ready for the NFL, and clearly was an injury concern. If you'd gotten your way, and he got all the training camp reps, and he won the starting job, and he sent you a dick pic, and all your dreams came true, all that would have happened is he would have gotten injured anyway in week 1 or 2 and we'd be starting Baker or PJ anyway. You can't "develop" a stronger foot.
  7. This is dumb. There's no reason to fire him now, and there's no reason as a fan why you shouldn't be hopeful he'll improve this year. 2 years ago he was a rookie HC. Last year he didn't have the talent (argue this point, I dare you). This year, we seem to have addressed many of our weakest areas (in the first team anyway) he won the first preseason game, and we outplayed the Patriots' starters with our second string. So what are you seeing that says we can't expect better coaching this year? The only people I see bitching right now are people who can't get over the fact that Matty Man Crush is done for the year because his foot is apparently made of glass and dry twigs.
  8. We need some good news at center. Been a while since we had an O line anchor like Kalil
  9. Honestly, I think $19M is a bargain for a backup at this point.
  10. This. I don't think I could make myself sit down for the entire overtime. Just anxious pacing the entire time.
  11. I don't know how much money Kate Bush made off the revival she's enjoyed these last 3 months, but man, she should give the Duffer Brothers a cut.
  12. I like Zylstra for that sure-handed down the depth chart role that Ricky Proehl used to fill. He might only see the field on 4 or 5 WR sets, but when it's 4th and whatever, you know he's gonna haul in that catch.
  13. And just to keep it apropos to the thread: Gettleman draft picks in a nutshell
  14. Same! And you beat me to making this comment verbatim. We ought to start a RLM thread in the lounge. I still haven't seen Top Gun, but when RLM posts a new video, I'll talk about that all day!
  15. Great production, and great clips. These are always a highlight of the offseason. This video is encouraging me to stop hanging out on the Huddle so much. I realized watching this, if I didn't spend so much time here, I wouldn't have an opinion on who should be starting or how many reps someone should be getting. I'd just be enjoying watching Panthers football, and rooting for whoever is taking snaps under center. I like Baker. Have liked him for years, and if you'd told me a couple years ago he'd be a Panthers QB, I'd do a backflip. I like Darnold. He's never had anything but an atrocious team and an atrocious O-Line in front of him, and part of me really wouldn't mind him starting week 1 because I don't think we've actually see him perform up to his potential. Dammit, I'm optimistic, and the only reason I feel an reservation in being optimistic is the constant negativity and criticism flying around here. More of this. More of watching these guys grind and have fun. And less pissing and moaning and armchair GM-ing.
  16. I really wonder what everyone's excuse would be if Corral was getting all the practice reps and still looked like crap. He's a rookie. He's a third rounder. He's 4th on the depth chart. Jesus you people need to chill out.
  17. I don't think a bad performance today is in any way telling or unexpected. But I have to admit, the "Young Lion" posters have been so obnoxious the last few weeks, I was actually rooting for and enjoying the hell out of his shitshow performance. He'll get better and I think he could be a quality player in time. But he damn sure ain't ready now, and no amount of preseason reps would have made him the guy this year. He needs time on the bench to learn the speed of the game. And we need to focus on the QB who can lead us this year.
