That's what I was thinking as I read it. How can anyone look at the Panthers drafts and overall record and say that the analytics was responsible the success? SUCCESS?

    lucious lyon wtf GIF

I mean this is something I'd write just to troll this forum

The genius behind the Drew Brees comparison...?  Some heatmaps of middle of the field accuracy?  Makes me want to make an "analytics" troll account and see if I can get a job with the team because of my excellent analyses...

Fitterer's biggest failure was rooted in taking a too collaborative approach with everyone rather than just making the picks straight from the draft board the scouting staff put together.

I mean... What proof of this is there exactly? Because a coach wanted a dude? That doesn't mean that the scouts / Fitterer didn't.

Right most will say nothing bad about friends and other players. Going into specific details about their situations is different though.

Eh I think it's still something friends would do for each other.

Until Bryce looks better it's hard to really have much hope for him. He was put in a bad situation but he arguably made the offense worse, not better, at least compared to the backup.

I don't hate the guy and so hope he succeeds.  I just don't really put stock in what one of his best friends says.

  4. The defense last year had to account for the worst starting position in the league or close to it, and an offense that had the most or second most points scored for an opponent. In addition to total yards, they also had a decent 3rd down conversion % and a low yards per play amount. They were also top 5 in points allowed in the first quarter. This is probably a playoff team (admittedly in a weak NFC South) with 1) an average offense in terms of points scored, and 2) an average offense in terms of, uh, not scoring points for the opponent.

On the other hand, our tackling sucked and our takeaways sucked. Our run D was not good. We couldn't get stops late in games when we really needed them.

But with all the injuries etc... I think Evero did a good job overall.  I don't think he is the best D coordinator in the NFL or something, but I think he made good use of what he had, talent-wise.

Horrible hire by Washington. Outside of Harbaugh, is it possible we got the best candidate in this rotation of jobs?

We thought we did pretty well last year, so let's see...

  6. I think it's development. Feels like guys are as good as they get when they walk in the door. We don't seem to be able to elevate any WRs, nor ever design schemes that maximize their abilities (outside of like Ginn and Cam which seems less about coaching and more just how well their skillsets fit).

What better opportunity does Johnson think he is going to get?  Top 2 pick. New owners.  New stadium.  Adam Peter's.  Rabid fanbase potentially.

    This just seems really odd.

Fans make a bigger deal out of things like draft picks being high than I suspect coaching candidates... Seattle is in many ways a more attractive job, better roster etc.

Johnson is a good coach and I suspect he'll have equal or better opportunities in the future.

I think he was trying too hard to change his game.  He wanted to prove he could sit back and be an elite passer.  I think one of the commentators mentioned it.  He was sitting in the pocket for too long trying to find the deep pass.  With his skill it should be 2 reads and then run IMO.  Make the defense always account for his legs.  Most of his runs were designed QB draws.

Yup he was consistently looking for the big play but needed to take the short gains sometimes.

It's just undeniable at this point. The guy consistently plays poorly in the playoffs.

I honestly think it's completely in his head at this point.  That triple coverage INT was just so bad. That's the type of throw you make on the last play of the game when you're trailing. Just an absolute desperation throw and there was no need for it.

The INT was a terrible throw. Even if it was the right distance it's a terrible decision. It was almost like he saw his receiver put his hand up and just stopped reading the field.

I like Lamar and don't want him to fail at all. But that throw... Ugh

Wilks made some very good adjustment in the second half.  I will say that the Lions should have just kicked field goals instead of leaving points on the table.

I don't begrudge the first 4th down attempt but that one later in the game.... when they needed 10 points... I dunnoo...

I mean, the Lions did score the most points on the 49ers that anyone did all season.

Lions choked in the 3rd.  Simple as that IMO.  They weren't making plays against the 49ers that they had.  If the Lions didn't implode in the 3rd they would have hung 40+ on the 49ers.   Not sure how that is Wilks being terrific and owning anyone.

Wilks isn't out there making WRs drop balls.  That is what killed the 3rd quarter for them...

If he outduels Mahomes in the Super Bowl then Cam was wrong

that's legitimately an insane standard - Mahomes is one of the best QBs to play the game in years. One doesn't need to be at his level to be more than just some mere game manager.

    Purdy definitely showed up today...

  12. Moving on from Hill in theory allowed a more complete team and the Chiefs got their win. They do need to reload on offense but let's not act like the Hill trade sent the team into some kind of tail spin...

To me the bigger deal is a guy like Tilis is CHOOSING to come here, to move on from an excellent org. You know who doesn't do that? Some boot licker looking for his only shot in the league like some have painted Morgan and Canales.  This is the move all offseason that tells me something really is different, or at least being sold to people as different. This dude isn't joining the cast of the next season of Game of Thrones.

    • We're going to model our football operations after the 49ers
    • Canales is expected to bring in coaches Tracy Smith from Tampa and Nate Carroll from Seattle

Okay if they actually do this the way the article describes my feelings are gonna change a bit. This sounds much more sound and considered than last year's effort to throw money at every available coach with experience and just assume it'll all go well.

Can you post some of those? I haven’t seen them. I mainly was watching Qb school breakdowns this year but I didn’t remember JT saying anything about that. Mainly the scheme and receivers being ass

Honestly no. I don't want to go through them again and I didn't save any. It was more towards the middle of the season and I'm 90% sure it came up in JTs a couple times. They're ones that were all linked from here.

Nor were the breakdowns ever all bad, ofc.

sure but that has Nothing to do with Carolina keeping him as a DC.

your post made it out like the Panthers are the bad guys for wanting to keep him even though he wasn’t promoted.

I mean, I kinda think they are, if he wants out and they aren't letting him. Yes, he has a contract in place, but he joined a staff that no longer exists.

OTOH he has very good reason to stay if he doesn't get a HC job elsewhere. He's built a strong D and it'll likely get better, and there's no guarantees if he goes to another place he'll have the same success. He may WANT to stay, for all we know... afaik he hasn't spoken publicly.

He still could land an HC job, though. I hope he does... I like Evero quite a bit.
