Can Sam Darnold play himself into becoming the 2023 starter?
Waldo replied to Verge's topic in Carolina Panthers
All you have to do is run for more than 185 yards in a game and he isn't terrible. I just don't see how that equals being a starter by choice. I kind of want someone to take that shot so we can all watch it playout like Rivera in DC, just not here please. I respect him turning it over less this year but he is still a player I would much rather play against than cheer for if we are all taking winning seriously. -
Draft screwed…. Season screwed…. Coaching screwed…. Future screwed

If we had the # 1 pick every year we could win the season at the draft and never have to play a game again -
I'm not sure with his current contract and expectations that he could do more than resign to avoid it. He obviously signed up to not be in charge so not being given that shouldn't be at all surprising really. Unless it's in his contract there shouldn't be any guarantees that he suddenly steps up into the GM with power role post Rhule, that is just speculation and hope from posters around here and the media. For all we know he could already be on borrowed time, I certainly have no idea WTF is really going on inhouse at this time other than massive auditions that have gone on by everyone smart enough to know the game.

How about show me one non-mistake lol
-
He was Rhule's personal ball washer so it actually sounds like a promotion regardless of 'title'. He is actually doing a job he was never hired for since Rhule was fired. Just call the new GM the GM's GM lol.

I would not consider these 2 really comparable. Most people don't morn murderers as much as random victims of life fugging them. The fact it isn't known, at least not publicly, what went down and how only adds to the situation and why they are not playing this week. Those teams are shook and the NFL's handling of it only made it worse. The Cheifs won that game and stopped an 8 game losing streak. It looks like that had the opposite affect that this had on the teams.

I like the idea that they can just call it a tie after next week if it doesn't have a big enough impact on seeding. IDK what the hell they will do if they have to play it after week 18. Sounds like they intend to resume the game and not start a new one so that is also a huge unknown with a whole other game in-between. I'd take the tie and just focus on the playoffs but that's just me.

His contract was even hard for NY to justify keeping so as much as I loved Bradbury you want to be the Eagles and get the good players at good prices at the right times. He is getting paid 7.25 this year and they are pushing 4 aditional years of dead money Saints style to hide the cap hit this year, not the 14.5 average in NY which would have resulted in us cutting him also. In both of those deals, Riddick and Bradbury, you want to be the Eagles though I think they are selling their future cap for a SB this year but at least they look like it's working this year. Roseman seems to have a great year and then go back to .500 so it will be interesting to see if he can hold it together which he hasn't in the past.

I am guessing he took a we bit less to go to a contender and it looks like a very smart choice at a chance at a ring and great production. I'm not sure that was every confirmed but it feels right. No idea if he was told they were spending it on Jackson, low balled him or he decided to go elsewhere first. What could have been if Rhule was fired for being a dud at the end of last year...
-
We paid Jackson instead. Now both of our starting CBs are IR bookends. It was such a stupid move to let him run away after getting him for so cheap in 2021. He honestly set the framework for Burns' worth, less than Riddick's $15 per year.

Report: Jim Harbaugh wants to return to NFL (Athletic)
Waldo replied to amcoolio's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is a bidding war that Harbaugh has been running like a pro for years. He leverages his contracts and jobs like a true mercenary. -
I would love to see him under new management first. I can see the need for another WR but I don't think we have to take one in the first 2 rounds to get someone that can contribute. We have Moore and TMJ has upside and I did see more from him post-Rhule which leads me to hope he was BCed or Bozemaned. Draft a later WR or pick up a FA with a chip on a prove it deal. I would like a route technician but I am praying the new coaching crew comes in with actual player improvement skills.

He deserves to get fired with the work he has done to date. I also think we can do a lot better than him, hell Seattle's draft was a lot better without him the last year. He was a Rhule hire and there is no escaping that fact and it should be enough to have already moved on from him. Do not do a mega deal with Burns. Do not do anymore stupid contracts that push massive dead money back into unplayable years, it hasn't worked here and it's time to clear the books and start over. Save that strategy for when we have a QB that is worth a franchise type contract. Clean the house and get rid of the crappy players who were 'OOU' and not good enough to justify their pay, Thomas and Jackson come to mind. Basically do everything he hasn't done here and I could start to try to respect him, otherwise it's his name we will be called to be fired next at games.

Draft screwed…. Season screwed…. Coaching screwed…. Future screwed
Waldo replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
I'm waiting for the coaching hires. I'm over terrible Panther football and I don't want to watch any more Rivera ball unless we are playing against it. We have a few weeks of wait and see ahead of us. Hey, maybe Tepper will clear the front office of all the poo left in Rhule and Hurney's wake...It's a long shot but it's still on the table if Tepper gets smart and hires a consultant. -
We are still picking top 10. I get what you are saying but I see it as he set the floor for the team after the Rhule sized disaster. Going to another coach opens up all kinds of options now. Burns is on the table now, where he wouldn't have been with Wilks. I'm fine with CMC draft pick, even a late 2nd. Bad contracts need to get cleared and that was never on Wilks. He played guys, we got plenty of looks on everyone that was healthy and we have identified guys to debate over keeping vs walking for the new crew. I see no viable way of tanking at the coach or player level without creating more issues than they 'solve'. Keeping Rhule would have increased our draft pick but he would not have given us the answers Wilks has. We were not a NFL run team under Rhule & Co and under Wilks he brought it back up to the minimum, that isn't bad. It may all be frustrating but this isn't Madden. I think Wilks repaired some of the damage Rhule's incompetence did in his 2.5 years so that's not bad because it should make it a smoother transition for the next guy vs how we ended last year which was a huge problem for those goobers going into this year.

It's offical, burn it all down. JK lol kind of not lol
-
QB entitlement at it's maximum setting of 11. Yeah that and playing more than 10 off the line agaisnt Brady. The faces Wilks made when the camera hit him as the Bucs came back looked just like Rivera's. Just stare your will at it instead of actually adjusting.
-
Considering what is going on with Twitterverse that really isn't surprising. It's not the case here. I have seen more 'stop comparing Wilks to Rhule' and I'm not sure I have seen 1 'Rhule was a better coach' takes here lol.
-
Great case to stay in the NFL but no to the HC gig here. The only way I see him being retained is if Tepper can't land one of the big OCs though I would rather have Reich as a settle HC.
-
Too much. Our 1st, Burns and more? I would rather take a shot on an imperfect and less rated prospect who is paired with a HC with QB grooming abilities. Neither Allen or Mahhomes went top 5. If we had the right coach I would care less that we are not picking top 2. I don't want to see us do a Lance type trade.
-
Who is going to hire the new coach in DC? The team is being ready for sale and he isn't a terrible HC so how do they proceed to replace him when the new owners can and will do whatever they want after the purchase? Only desperate candidates will take that job when they have no idea who their new boss will be or want. I still think he makes it into 2023 as HC due to the situation and this is all just fan hope we are all too familiar with around here. Wilks isn't staying here unless the offseason goes very wrong for us again.
