It's just more of the same. It's been talked about and noted for months around here. That take can't be a surprise at this point.

Dealing with the now and building a foundation to build a future upon would have been a great sign of change and a serious attempt to turn this thing around. Those guys that were all fired were also pitching the future. Rhule's 7 year plan and last year's platoff team while taking a still weak NFCS were just more of the same. You already answered you own question. 2 win teams don't usually develop projects well, stable and well run teams do. That is not close to the Panthers at this time. The future doesn't matter if it looks like the recent past for them.

Why wouldn't we if we were right the last 2 years? It's no longer a mystery even if you add in the element of unknown. Quacks like a duck, walks like a duck then it's a duck. Betting against the current Panthers is just good odds unfortunately. I get wanting it not to be true and fanning how you want but it's hard to go against the history they have built in the last 6 years. Tepper hires poorly while dragging his last mistakes into the new mix. The mix of personnel to scheme is yet again questionable. The draft was not as different as it needed to be from the recent drafts. The list is right there, we are all just talking what we see until they prove it. IMO this try isn't much better than the last, at least the HC will at least try which is nice. It's not the easy option, it's the obvious option.

Yeah the trade forced an ugly year 2 we are seeing unfold but next year is a completey different situation.

How the Carolina Panthers found themselves in the worst situation

That was Hurney not Fritters and his one player away from winning strategy which was TB. -
It's more like undercooked chicken being served. 'Just send it back, it'll be fine once they finish cooking it'. If they gave you that first and you eat the second then it's on you as much as them when you get sick or at the best massively disappointed. They obviously can't freaking cook. Just enjoy being sick to disapointed, there is nothing you can do about it anyways. That is the logic you are seeing applied to Young.

Should the Carolina Panthers extend Diontae Johnson?
Waldo replied to jayboogieman's topic in Carolina Panthers
It's a prove it year for him. Let him prove it and pay accordingly if it's worth paying. He is making 10 mil? That's too much for a guy with 1 1000 yard season. -
You notice that after 2007 those numbers jump up a bit? Maybe 2007 was just the J Russel effect but what comes after is the modern NFL even though it started to change in what 2004? with the CB stuff it wasn't full blown until then. It's more like comparing 90s numbers than to the modern stuff.

None of them look like starting material to me this year, certainly not rookie coming off an injury and needing work. Also Morgan was the pro-personnel guy when they signed Sanders so it's reasonable to doubt that his salary is the only reason he is still around with a June 6th designation they could have used to open up cap (2 miil +) for another RB. Chuba being a #2 or on a contract year isn't really an issue until next year when they see how he does this year and what he wants moving forward. These guys should be making moves to keep their jobs next year, not another future fest that's been going on since Rhule got here with his 7 year plan. It was a luxury and I'll just refer to the many post above to not repeat myself.
-
Or you are making assumptions that something meaningful has changed? The criticism was earned and with how they drafted there is likely more lined up.
-
Disagree all you want. It was absolutely a luxury pick, as explained, and if those people can't see that then they have much bigger issues rolling there way when the season starts. This team has been over drafting these kinds of players since Dave showed up and this crew is no exception. Young, Mingo, Johnson and Zavala were all over drafted (factually in hindsight) and this crop looks to be carrying on that tradition. The fact this GM was the assistant and worked very closely with the last makes it a dotted line of logic. We will find out soon but it's so obvious it hurts.
-
Can't be impactful if he can't get on the field. Even if he did he would be # 3 this year anyways. They needed to be focusing on the now and worry about the future if they want to keep their jobs, it's a luxury no one in that house can afford except the owners. The last HC didn't make it 1 season and no one has lasted more than 3 since Tepper showed up doing very similar stuff. But please go on like the people criticizing this isn't based in recent facts. Also comparing this guy to CMC is delusive AF. CMC could block and catch as a healthy (played 16 and started 10) rookie. I get being tired of the criticism and anger that is touching every angle of the organization at this point but it's as surprising as this guy not being ready yet...which is the base of the criticism given the RB room he isn't ready to help to improve much right now is he?

With how this offseason unfolded it looks like it will be the next people in charge's problem.

Panthers building new offense, defense, and culture in spring

The only way he should have gone in the 1st is because it was such a weak RB class and not because he woukd have been such a great 1st round pick. Game changing 3 down back? It was a luxury pick and is more about next year then someone who could have helped this year at one of many positions of need. This entire draft showed more poor values and ignored concerns so SSDD. Yes he has upside but again it's a RB. After trading a beast for a 2nd and change it makes it look even more hilarious of a miss swing on a team desperate to add talent on the field and not in the imaginations of the people in charge. Also when was the last time the Panthers drafted a project that lived up to their ceiling on this team? And the first 3 picks in this draft were projects which would be exciting on a playoff team but not a 2 win team IMO.
-
The fact is they should never have drafted Brooks. It was a luxury pick and deserves every bit of the crap fans are giving it. Not a surprise and not a good pick for the team. Injured project RB is still injured so big shock about a guy who wasn't ready to play much if healthy anyways, he needs work at this level. Just wait until the OG at center goes down again. Then we can talk about all the centers or OGs (since apparently that's an easy switch to make) we could have had playing at that point. 'But a rookie is too risky at center for Bryce but an injured project RB in the 2nd makes so much sense for the future.' An investment in the future? How about an investment in this season between the millions they spent on OGs with the current hole in between them.

How the Carolina Panthers found themselves in the worst situation
Waldo replied to philw5289's topic in Carolina Panthers
Look at stories from his rookie year. You are giving him too much credit and yes that situation stunk. He would have been fine for a swing at that time but in hindsight if he ever gets decent it will be more like Baker's situation at best then 'he could have shined here vs there'. I'm also not sure the Panther's situation is any better than the Bears, big picture, for him in those scenarios. He is like a less talented Murray IMO. Physically talented but not mentally what you hope for with all of that talent. It's just not a hill to die on IMO and if the Panthers drafted him I have a hard time not seeing it to leading the same general outcome. -

Dude is a debt collector. Fug them both. I asked why anyone cared about this guy at that time and all I got back was he was a local to some people so rah rah. Ok cool. I agree about the JR part but I have zero reasons to care about Nevaro anymore than Tepper. His kid plays tennis and dad was an old coach. Cool. It's the NFL, they don't sell to great people and there is only 1 team run in the way I would be happy to see which the NFL will never allow again. IMO there was never a good option in that sale. -

IDK about that mattering at all in the Panthers sale. This team and it's location affected the interested buying parties. Maybe Tepper would have bought DC but then they could have had another Tepper ready to buy us for 3.85 billion less than the DC sale, whoever took his place in Pitt like he did for Haslam. Neither the Denver (2 billion more) or DC group moved on the Panther's sale. Plus JR was ready to sale before he was pushed out, that was his plan with the NFL which is mandatory to have a clear ownership plan in place, so it wasn't a shock that he was selling. There is only 1 team that can escape the good old boys club unfortunately. Maybe everyone knew it was gifted to Tepper from the get go or maybe the bigger groups just saw it as not nearly as desirable as Denver or DC. Maybe it's a bit of both. -

The biggest difference is they spent so much on Bryce that they have to roll with him 1 more year, it's non-optional from every angle. Tell me that if he was a 2nd or 3rd round pick they wouldn't have used this years 1st on a QB? -

There were 2 real options that wanted to buy and neither were great options. They went with Haslam 2.0 vs the local scum bag. Hell the Diddlier tried to put a group together to buy it and that would have been fun considering his issues. The Panthers fans were always doomed. The best hope now is that Nicole sales when David kicks it. -
LoL. You set yourself up to be used with that mentality. He didn't quit. He found a path to the playoffs and a much better situation. That's called winning. You probably can't see it with the boot on your face.

It's a huge problem but this isn't the way to do more than pat a billionaire on the back. Would they be doing this if there wasn't a tax break from it? I know my guess. So 3 million to a great cause while getting a tax break with a photo op and they get 650 million from the city so their pockets can grow? How about they keep the 3 million and the area spends that 650 to raise people out of poverty? The uber rich only like giving when they get more than they give, the exceptions would be people like Bezos' and Gates' exes. Also the rules on non-profits are strick but about how much actually ends up in the hands that the organizations were set up for is not. March of dimes was $.10 for every dollar donated last time I looked. Please look up charities before giving. They are not all the same, no idea about this one.
