I think they are also trying to get Indy involved. If the Texans think their division rival is about to jump then to take their QB, they may give up something to prevent that.

The "theory" would be we like both Young and Stroud so if Houston gives up significant capital to take their guy then we would gladly accept. I'm not 100% sold on it, but a few people have mentioned Carolina being ok with trading down if the price is right.

The million dollar question is does our staff want to move down to 2 and acquire more capital. If that is the case then the Young at 1 is being "leaked" because that is Houston's guy. The counter is they have the top pick and can be as bold as they want about it. They moved up to 1 with Young being a great pick and will still do their research on the other guys to validate him as the guy.

Valid point. My hope is the better OL and much better staff that would be around AR would help offset Cam being the more developed passer. I really think it's between Young and Stroud at 1 though. If we move down then AR is probably in play.

If they know for sure Houston offered next year’s first to the Bears because they want Young then I could see this approach. Imagine getting that pick plus Stroud at 2. It would make the original Bears trade hurt way less.

I’d be happy with Young. He could have us competitive right away.

“Ideally” yes, but who knows how high they are on his other traits. Also this is all just Fitt’s input on the position. I imagine the pick will be a collaboration of Fitt, Reich and his staff. I don’t want AR at 1, but I think people read too much into these press conferences.

The problem is there isn't a "generational" talent in this draft which is why the first pick was for sale. Hopefully our staff can take one of these talented young QBs and develop them into a franchise QB. If anyone can do it, it's our new staff.

Yeah this is their job and they get paid millions to do it. They are going to give us fans “hints” at something they don’t want everyone to know for a reason…

Keep reading into GM press conferences in March. It’s fun to speculate. They could be lying, telling the truth, or just speaking a lot of nothing. It tends to be the last more than not IMO. I’m not saying it’s not Young and I’m happy if it is, but which of those things doesn’t describe Stroud?

He would just say Young if he wanted to be so bold right? We hold the top pick and if he is convinced Young checks all the boxes then just say it. He described a prototypical QB. If they are making you think it’s a QB without saying it, then what’s the point of that?

If it’s Hooker Irsay will trade whatever we want to acquire it.

He is a professional GM. He isn’t going to give anything away in a press conference on accident.

Running a 2TE set where they both are solid pass catchers would really help a rookie QB and our offense disguise protections. I wouldn’t hate one of those TEs at 39.

He would be great for their offense.

So we got a nice possession WR, The big catch radius jump ball WR, now we need a speed WR to keep the safeties honest. Chark/Hardman fit that role or maybe we draft one. Josh Downs seems good for that role as well.

He will be great for our young group plus whoever we draft. He will also provide a nice safety net with great hands for our rookie QB.

Seriously it’s all very fluid. He didn’t sign the day he met with us and the day he met your friend. Who knows what happened between then and now. Regardless we should all be happy.

Stroud’s strength is his accuracy. He is a Goff to Burrow type player. Hopefully our staff would get him closer to Burrow (who McCown already compared him to). Young has flashes of Mahomes in his game and thrives under pressure like Mahomes. Will he be able to have a long career with his frame is the only concern and it’s something our staff can’t correct or develop. We could potentially get a mini Mahomes in Young or a Burrow in Stroud. Either way we should have the most excitement we have had since Cam was drafted.
