Yeah the commentator on NFL Network called it wrong. It threw me off too…

We swapped two picks. Our 2 5ths for their 4th and 6th. Fourth rounders are usually delth/ possible starters down the road. If he ends up starting we did great.
-
Ohh ok we got their 6th. Got it thanks!
-
That’s all our picks right?

We needed LB depth in a bad way. Do we have any picks left? It said we traded our two 5ths and 6th for that pick.

Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss
ForJimmy replied to Ricky Spanish's topic in Carolina Panthers
It’s hard to tell if it was Brady or Darnold that had our offense so predictable. The issue was defenses knew what plays we were running before the snap. That had to be Brady being too predictable, or maybe he didn’t trust Darnold to run a more complex offense. The offense he was trying to run seemed similar to Corral’s Ole Miss RPO quick reads, but that’s too simple to run in the NFL. Like you are saying hopefully McAdoo gets the keys to run the offense as he sees fit and can develop Corral into a solid QB. I love Corral’s leadership and toughness (again this can be a fault too) and I think he can toughen up our locker room and become a leader pretty fast. Darnold doesn’t have it in him to be that guy. Cam was great at it. -

Yeah good point. I think we cater an offense to fit his strengths. McAdoo likes the WCO. So I can see a lot of quick reads/passes with a few RPOs mixed in there. I would not want him running too much either as he doesn’t have the frame of a Josh Allen or Cam Newton. -
Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss

He did it briefly at Ole Miss, but not nearly enough to show he can do it at the next level. This plus protecting his body/bulking up will be his two main obstacles to overcome in the NFL IMO. -

Under throws don’t always equate to lesser arm strength. Timing, feet, pressure etc can lead to this. Corral has shown he can launch it down when needed. I watched him thread some needles and there are highlights of him launching it 50 plus yards with his feet set. It’s not on Willis’s level but I don’t think any QB in this or possibly last (Maybe Zach Wilson) we’re on par with Wills. Willis is going to have a top 5-10 arm in the NFL (just for strength) right away. Corral excels at processing and making quick reads, quickly getting the ball to his playmakers hands ( with his insane release). That should be a nice fit for our WCO. He also can extend plays and quickly set his feet with his “twitchiness” similar to young Brees (not saying he is Brees just similar in that trait). If he can get the mental aspect of playing QB in the NFL he will be solid. He showed a huge jump last year in decreasing turnovers which leads me to believe he is pretty coachable and smart. Lastly he will need to bulk up and protect his body. I’m college he fights through contact which was why he was constantly injuring his ankles. In the NFL that will cause a much more severe injury. -
Yeah… that’s true… If Rhule magically becomes the best coach in the league he won’t get fired.
-
He is 1 inch shorter than CJ Stroud and 6 pounds lighter. He is bigger than Bryce Young by 2 inches and about 20 pounds. Those are the top 2 (as of now) in next year’s “loaded” class.
-
I’m pretty sure he is taller than Howell. He is like 6’1 5/8 and Howell is just over 6’0”
-
Can’t we also roll over the extra cap space? I’m not entirely sure about all the rules of the salary cap, but rolling over some might be a good idea. We restructured several contracts to keep our options open so we may need the space in the upcoming years.
-
Zamir White is solid! We have some depth at RB but with CMC’s injury history adding another one isn’t a bad idea.
-
I think he will get his playing time in the second half of the season, maybe when we are out if the playoff race. Corral is a locker room leader and Sam is kind of quiet/laid back. Corral is going to win over the locker room pretty quickly.

Round 3 Pick 94: Panthers Select Matt Corral - QB Ole Miss

They were probably mixing it up with the other picks. Willis and Howell are the 6’0” guys. He also looks smaller because he is pretty skinny. -

Because he pretty much is. I think he measured like 6’1” and 6/8 or something. That’s about the height of Aaron Rodgers. He just needs to bulk up some. -
LB sounds right. Honestly it might be mostly depth in these later rounds. BPA makes sense too.

No way. His arm talent and release is far greater than Heincke. -

He was saying Rhule has full roster control and is on the hot seat. If fans start booing when Darnold starts struggling, Rhule may try to force Corral in the lineup too early. McAdoo even said it’s ultimately up to Rhule when asked if Sam was his starter. -

It’s a future 3rd rounder for a young QB with potential. We come out if this draft addressing two of our biggest needs with really only our first and what might as well be a fifth round pick and all we did is lose next year’s 3rd over it. That’s minimal damage all things considered. At worse we have a backup with potential on a cheap 3rd round contract. At best we have our new QB. Very low risk high reward pick. Even if it’s a high 3rd next year, those picks are far from sure things. Who was ours last year? Marshall and BC? Marshall might have been a 2nd… -

A future 3rd and the last pick in the 4th for a current 3rd isn’t a bad trade. I would assume they don’t value all the prospects the same. Fitt said he had a first round grade on couple of the QBs and Corral’s grade was much higher than a 3rd. At one point there were mentions of us drafting one at 6, instead we lose a future 3rd for one and drafted a stud LT at 6. We did good. Relax…
