The tank talk is silly. No coach, GM, or owner is going to insist we keep a terrible QB to make Rhule suffer and guarantee us the top pick in a draft with no clear cut top guy. We signed several vets to one year contracts for what? A tank year? Why restructure any contracts or sign any vets? Just march a terrible product out there and go 0-17 to teach Rhule a lesson and draft the OSU QB who played only one year and lit up the Big 10 like all OSU QBs do. If we keep Darnold it’s because we genuinely believe he is our best option this year behind a revamped OL and some better coaches around him (OC and OL coach). If that’s how our staff feels and we get Neal/Icky at 6 then great! Hearing this talk about Tepper should punish Rhule and make him keep Darnold is garbage. If he wanted to punish Rhule he would just fire his ass.

Is the Dream of one of the top 2 tackles dead?

Multiple needs in a class that is deep in rounds 2-3 with no picks in rounds 2-3 and a GM who loves trading down. Yeah I think you are right my friend…. Of course that’s assuming we have anyone wanting to trade with us. -
I really enjoy draft time. Just wish we had our 2nd/3rd this year…
-
If Neal is there it’s a no brainer to me. Neal or Icky and we take them unless there us some insane offer to trade, which I don’t see happening. If they are gone I have no clue what direction we will go. DJ’s “more athletic Hasselback” comparison makes me feel better if we get Pickett. Hasselback was a good QB and his limited athletic ability was his weakness. In case anyone forgot… n 2005, Hasselbeck had one of his most productive career performances, earning the highest passer rating in the NFC,[12] and leading the Seahawks to the playoffs for the third consecutive year while clinching the NFC's top seed. He led the Seahawks to Super Bowl XL, in which they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and was the starting quarterback for the NFC in the 2006 Pro Bowl.[13]

There is definitely something to be said about how outmatched Brady was at OC. If we land Icky or Neal Darnold will have no excuses this year.
-
My favorite prospect is Willis, but I think Corral fits what we are trying to do the most so I went with him. Give Willis a great coach/OC and he could be special.
-
That’s how it always works. The top prospects typically go to terrible teams. My point is if it’s such an incredible class, why did the previous year outperform them on rookie seasons. Because it’s a educated guess based on potential? It doesn’t matter if “every scout” is so low on this class then we won’t take one based on our scouts. So just relax…
-
I actually like him a lot as a prospect.
-
That the top QB draft class didn’t live up to their hype? That the weaker class before had more successful rookie years? Yeah I need a breath or two…
-
-
Yeah they crushed it this past year!
-
I’m not against OL if Neal or Icky are there. I’d be for trading down if think we can land Corral or one of our top rated QBs later.
-
Like Rattler and Howell last year.
-
So there is no top overall pick we are striving to get at 1 in which you guaranteed we would finish last? We get it you are down on this class, but next year’s is far from a guarantee to be great.
-
And who is this mystery sure thing top pick next year? The OSU QB? The undersized Alabama QB?
-
I mean we are picking 6 this year with a terrible OL and Sam. Definitely not a slam dunk…

Rhule: Sam Darnold will take a huge step this year
ForJimmy replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
Probably, but it also depends on who we pick. Someone more pro ready like Pickett might beat him out at camp like Mac did with Cam at NE. Most of the others probably won’t be ready week 1. -

I kind of think he should stay on the roster. Just eat the cap hit and don’t trade away players/picks just to move him. Let him walk next year and he can be our backup this year (assuming we add another). -
Maybe he thinks there isn’t much of a drop off in the first 20 or so. It’s also the reason why we might not have anyone wanting to trade up.
-
I think if Icky or Neal are there they just draft one at 6. If they aren’t then it’s pretty wide open.
-
He would be a fool NOT to regret and learn from the Darnold disaster.
-
That his throws are catchable at 10 and 15+ yards? I think it’s more if the opposite.
-
I’ve read they are down because he “regressed” this year. He regressed because he lost his weapons and his OL was awful. I’ve also see the one read and run comment in his draft profiles. He did this last year because his first read wasn’t open and his pocket was destroyed before he got to his second. It’s all relative from what I see. If you get him a decent OL and weapons (like ALL QBs need) you can get 2020 Howell.
-
What? You mean he can just flick it 60 yards down the field?? Honestly his throwing motion is fine. I like how he is already working on improving his footwork. Seems like a practice/training work horse like Drew Brees was.
