So three first round picks on a QB, but the OLine and the running game has to be dominant for him to succeed? Make it make sense. That's how you handle a career journeyman, a game manager you bring off the bench when the starter goes down.

I am actually living in an alternate reality. I must be. How does this fuger keep getting positive reviews and support from media outlets, teammates, ex-players etc? This is an in-joke that we as Panthers fans aren't partial to, right? This was his 30th start on Sunday. He's looked awful in 28 of them. He put his team in a 10 point hole on Sunday - no-one else threw that INT or fumbled the ball on a routine hit. fug off with his garbage time stats - the Cards played Prevent for 30 minutes. When the ball bounced our way at the end and the game was on the line they simply dialled up the pressure again and he folded like the bitch he is.

Let's compare his stats to our Practice Squad's stats at the end of the year then talk.

So, just what is it that makes a QB "elite"?

Evaluating quarterbacks is incredibly complex, which is why we see so many busts. It’s a combination of factors, and even then, you're trying to project how someone will evolve under pressure in a system that may not suit them. At a fundamental level, a QB has to clear a baseline of physical and mental traits. Bryce Young, for example, doesn’t convincingly clear either. Physically, you need size, arm strength and functional accuracy. Mentally, you need processing speed, adaptability, and the ability to operate under pressure. Even if a QB is in the wrong scheme - Rich Gannon in an Air Coryell system, for instance - you should still see flashes that indicate he’s an NFL-caliber quarterback. Scheme fit is one of two key factors that can elevate a QB’s performance. The other is how they mentally approach the game. And that’s the hardest part to quantify during the draft process. The elite QBs know where every player—offence and defence—is supposed to be on any given play, and they can adjust when things break down. The very best are obsessive about film study and mechanics. Brady flew in his personal QB coach during the season to fine-tune his footwork. Brees completely rebuilt his throwing motion after shoulder surgery. That level of dedication separates the good from the great. -
The D is bottom third in the league, talent wise - we're lacking talent at LB and at S. I bet that's where we'll rank come the end of the season. I think you're being disingenuous with your Young take. This was his THIRTIETH start. He's the same guy that ran out there against the Falcons in 2023.

Guess I'm the only one that thought the D played well today. The Cards were just repeatedly targeting Rozeboom and Scott - short of just benching them for rookies I don't know what Evero is meant to do there. He dialled up a perfect blitz on that Murray 30 yard scramble and Rozeboom just whiffed. Should have been a 15 yard loss, drive over. Jimmy's and Joe's, ladies and gentlemen.

This bad? Young gave the Cards 10 points today.
-
I think putting a competent player at QB improves our team tremendously. Is that considered a quick fix? I was one of those vehemently against trading up and I was apoplectic when they picked Young over Stroud AFTER making that moronic trade.
-
20 points on 5 INTs suggests otherwise.
-
Waaaaaait - GameDay next week is Miami v Florida?
-
Miami 49 - 12 USF, which begs the question - how bad are Florida and LSU?!
-
Who's the QB in this Draft that's going to ride in on a white horse and save the franchise? I'd just like to compete. You can't compete with Young.
-
I love how people are just willing to throw away ANOTHER season.
-
Which is terrifying as a QB needy team.
-
I wouldn't want Klubnik on my NFL team that's for damn sure.

Oregon look streets ahead of the pack - best team money can buy.

Bryce Young is a problem — what would you do if you were Dan Morgan?
OldhamA replied to OldhamA's topic in Carolina Panthers
He accepted the job, like Canales, under the premise that he'd commit to Young as the QB. Both Morgan and Canales are underqualified for their current roles - and quite frankly I don't think anyone else wanted the jobs with the said remit of committing to Young. He's doing his best with his hands tied - but yes he's clearly not a great GM. -

Ain't nobody still watching this shower of poo a 'fair weather fan'. -
Honestly? Because Tepper refuses to admit he was wrong when he insisted the team draft Bryce Young. Miss me with the 'he was the consensus pick in the building' malarkey. Go and find footage of Reich watching Stroud through at his pro day and then compare it to Reich (and McCown) at Young's pro day. He was enamoured with Stroud.
-
It's arguable he missed two walk in TDs to Renfrow on Sunday - he threw one out of bounds and he underthrew the other. Renfrow had his man beat deep by 2 yards (NFL open) down the sidelines. QBs miss throws, that's the nature of the game. They also make throws, which Young simply doesn't do consistently enough.
-
Simply put, Evero has been shafted during his time here. The talent we left him to play with last season was criminal. They've invested some more into the D this offseason, but it's still a unit that's woefully short of talent. We should have let him walk in the offseason when he wanted to go.
-
They followed the Saints / Brees blueprint - short, slow QB so had to significantly strengthen the iOL to compensate. It's worked - the OLine is incredibly good now. Sadly the short, slow QB isn't.
-
'That dude' is about to make his 30th career start despite putting up horrific numbers. Who else in NFL history has been handed that long a leash?
-
Mainly because it's a QB driven league and our QB struggles to complete routine throws.

Per my post - I don't think a Trey Lance et al is going to be your franchise QB, but he gives you an opportunity to field a competitive team until you DO find your franchise QB. Rolling the dice on the Draft is a crazy way to operate. Prize = force something open i.e. try to trade for the backup QB the host team actually like. This idea that you're nowhere without a franchise QB is baffling to me. I'd say maybe 10 NFL teams have their franchise guy. The other 22 are settling or actively looking for the next guy. How many of those 22 are actively tanking? The Steelers are running the corpse of Russell Wilson out there ffs trying to compete. You play to win the game.
