I think Bryce would have done better in Trey Lances spot in SF.....and Trey Lance would have done better in Bryce's landing spot.  Better might need a disclaimer in terms of Lance.  Probably higher highs and lower lows.

We won 2 games and earned the #1 overall pick. The lows don't get much lower.

Bryce comes off as a confident leader. He sheltered his team in the media over and over for their bad play, just saying that 'he needed to play better'.

Well gees kid, you had a terrible team around you.

Now we have a better team and I expect we will see better results.

I think we are going to have a lot of people posting "I was wrong about Bryce" threads this season.

But he did need to play better...

It’s really the only one that matters. No raw 2nd round edge rusher is going to do much in the grand scheme of things for us. CB? Sign Gilmore if it’s that big of a deal

This organization needs to find out what they have in Bryce this season. They absolutely should be double dipping at WR. If Bryce ain’t it then at least the next guy has a fighting chance

This is an offensive league. You’re never going to have a complete team. You’re always going to have a weakness. Every year the league changes rules in hopes of more points being scored. Our offense was downright awful last year and people still want to spend picks on defense… I don’t get it.

Probably because half of our starting defence was traded and / or walked in FA.

Reading between the lines, I see Legette as a person who wants to come to Carolina and maybe he is trying to control the narrative.  I would never tell a player being picked at 33 that he is the pick--what if we get a great trade offer?  What if a Thomas, Mitchell, or Ladd is there?  "Oh well, we promised Legette..."  Not buying it.

Why would you want to come to Carolina?!

Also I'm sure they've told him they really like him and are considering him in the second round - as they have done with about 15 other prospects no doubt.

    Why friend?

It's not enough compensation for the #33 pick.

You'll be fielding calls all night after the first round with teams desperate to trade up for that guy that dropped out of the top 32.

I'm not opposed to trading the pick, but I want significantly more than it's value.

Can't be considered overpayment because of 2 different systems.

If these were Burns 2nd worst stats in a 4-3 defense, with his hand in the dirt every play, I would say this argument holds merit. The problem is that a 3-4 OLB is also asked to drop in coverage. Of course his stats will be down.....

He's a prototypical 3-4 OLB. He gets blocked into the bleachers as a 4-3 DE against the run.

I do think it will be very hard for Young now that the NFL has so much tape on him. A sophomore slump is highly probable in my opinion.

Wait, you're saying he could get worse!?!

    Is that even possible?

I think the coming to Jesus moment for last year's staff was in the Jets joint practices when they saw first-hand just how bad the Oline was in this scheme where they couldn't just line up and power run the football like they were doing under Wilks. Getting destroyed like they did probably took every pass concept that was more than 20 yards out of the play book because we simply couldn't hold up in pass pro for that long.

They never intended to be a power rushing scheme. Reich has always run a zone blocking scheme.

The fact that he didn't have the OLine to implement it is just another layer to the madness.

this is something that should have been addressed last year and maybe would have if the coaching staff wasn't more involved in whatever pissing match they had going on with each other.

listening to canales, it just seems like he has so much more knowledge about what can and needs to be done with any QB than we got from any of our "dream team coaching staff" from last year.

Why are we teaching the #1 overall pick, who's had a QB coach since he was big enough to hold a football with one hand, the very basics of throwing?

One thing I'm not sold on is the weapons for Bryce.  I'm not really convinced that spending so much money on the guard position is going to improve Bryce's ability to complete passes.

He definitely needs better protection, but adding Diontae Johnson and a rookie isn't going to be enough.  No receiving back.  No reliable tight end.  And Diontae Johnson and Adam Theilen?  Oof.

Consensus #1 overall pick needs all-star supporting cast to succeed. More news at 11.

So by this logic Kyler Murray should have gone in the 6th round, and Russell Wilson even though he went in the third round should have gone undrafted. Got it

Kyler Murray who was drafted 9th overall by the Oakland A's? Short, but certainly not unathletic.

Someone needs to make a documentary on this phenomenon at some point looking back on how a QB prospect with so many obvious physical talent red flags duped the majority of the football world when these protests are normally absolutely nit picked to death leading up to the draft.

    Sounds like a 30 for 30.

Well that's a lovely way to water down what's actually being said here. The fact is that everybody wants to characterize Bryce as a midget who somehow swindled his way into the number one pick. This is far from reality. And also people want to look at the hardships of the offense last year as a whole and pin it completely on Bryce. This isn't atypical, many quarterbacks in the NFL know they're going to have to deal with the brunt of the offenses production because they're the leader. But as soon as anybody brings up the fact that our receivers were absolute garbage in our offensive line could be beat by most of the defensive lines in the SEC, people start calling you a Bryce defender. It's just wild to see everybody tear down a 22-year-old kid after his first year on a horrible team without seeing what he can do in year two with some stability and better talent around him.

But you literally saw a washed up QB put up 300+ yards, 2TDs and 27 points with the same supporting cast.

It's easy to say it's mental" gymnastics," but it's really not. It's an educated guess at worst. John McClain, very highly respected in NFL journalistic circles and still a Texans insider though retired from the Houston Chronicle said that he believes that Young would've been their pick.

At some point, we just have to acknowledge that we were just unlucky.

    Unlucky how?

I think you guys should narrow your search to young guys with something to prove and willing to take a 2 year deal befitting their current situation, and vets willing to sign the equivalent to a 1 year contract. That's about all this team is going to do in FA this year.

I wouldn't mind people narrowing their search to the 3-4 too.

Campbell is a 3-4 DE, but Dupree absolutely isn't (for example).

We work on the footwork regardless of who the qb is, every year at the beginning of camp.

Tom Brady, I know you are the greatest of all time, but we are going to start this years camp by working on your footwork.  lol

I do hope he can turn the kid into a good qb.

That's exactly what a consummate professional like Brady would do. I've no doubt Brees, Manning et al did it too.

It's how you retain your edge.
