Official Week 3: Panthers vs. Falcons Gameday Thread
frankw replied to kungfoodude's topic in Carolina Panthers
You're seriously pivoting to the GOAT? I am howling! -
Credit where it's due he's stepped up in a big way. Now hopefully this offensive unit can figure things out and reward our defensive players for their efforts.

panthers offense 30 of 32 in yards per play
frankw replied to fanpanther's topic in Carolina Panthers
Well at the end of the day people make a choice to open threads. Beyond that. I will acknowledge that these conversations are getting more and more contentious. But that is the result of a myriad of reasons. Just a few of which begin with the fact that a number of posters here who have spent literal years and some even before the draft shouting down any and all skepticism and criticism on his behalf. To the point that now instead of our starting QB being sold as a generational prospect in terms of processing diagnosing plays and protections and a keen ability to thrive when the play breaks down as he was before the draft. To basically just praising him any time he does anything any below average QB or fringe backup would be capable of. I mean it's to the point where it's basically like congratulating a child for small life milestones instead of an adult athlete who was billed as an elite talent with $39 million guaranteed. And now you have people once again griping that it's being talked about. Well let's be honest about that. Folks who have taken that stance have had their moment. They shouted down dissent all last spring and summer and tried to actually drive people off the huddle. Then we know how preseason and the beginning of the season played out. Then spring/summer for this year went largely the same in terms of folks being ultra defensive about him. Then we once again started out 0-2 after Bryce and the starters looked quite putrid against a team that is BTW 0-3 which I keep hearing so much about. That team made our starting offense look like a high school unit. So no I will not quiet down I will not stop discussing these issues. If someone doesn't like it well that's unfortunate but you folks have had your time to talk down to others and try to dictate conversation. It's year 3. We're going to talk about this and it will not end until the draft when we inevitably pick another QB. Then guess what? There's a whole new layer to the convo. My suggestion would be to take it or leave it and just buckle in. This is the Panthers for better or worse. We should all be used to it by now anyways. -
The article you linked is based entirely on that stretch of games last year where he played like an average starter instead of one of the league's worst QB's. It's a puff piece. And it's already been blown out of the water with Bryce's play through the first two games. Beyond that Bryce is barely at 60% completion with 30+ starts so the "highly accurate" label is fantasy at this point. He throws a ton of 50/50 balls due to his mechanics too.

Bryce Young's current YPA - 5.3 Jimmy Clausen's YPA in 2010 - 5.2 Only rookie project Cam Ward is worse than Bryce so far. It is not unfair or unrealistic to expect our #1 overall pick to do much better than that in his third season. And no that does not mean he has to be Cam Newton. -

There is a whole world of middle ground between Jimmy Clausen and Cam Newton sir. -

Yeah how rude of people to acknowledge what's plainly right in front of everyone's nose. -

The posts are there for anyone to read. You've been carrying his water for so long now I don't think you know which way is up. -

Let them come. It's a combination of things. The definition of a deep pass will always be what past iterations of football was for many despite what these statistical outlets try to push in order to prop up their newer generations of favorites. But even with all that. It's still situational. It's okay to take what defenses are giving you as long as your guy has the prerequisite physical talent to adapt to a more downfield attack. The problem is when that doesn't exist you need everything to go perfect or the other team to flounder and gift you field position and points. Which is where we're at. -

I agree. It's indicative of how much standards have been pushed back just to justify our decision. But if you ask too many questions about these things the boot lickers come out. I'm looking at you @csx -
Who are the top QB prospects for the 2015 draft?

Mendoza is very intriguing. Lot of time though. -

Also ironic that just yesterday there were a few people who said that expecting more completed passes beyond a measly 5 yards is basically akin to throwing into double coverage downfield and throwing bombs. -

I was told Bryce Young is a better big time passer than Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen. -
Dude took 7 sacks in one game and he was still slinging it up and down the field. Around here that would be an excuse to stink it up.

We won, but Bryce and Canalas still blow
frankw replied to Panthers Fan 69's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's called purgatory. The problem is even in games where he is turning the ball over and largely terrible eventually it opens the door for garbage time stats that skew the conversation and simply serve as a tool for some to argue in favor of prolonging the inevitable. For a third year QB the only numbers that should hold weight are what he does in crunch time and when the game matters. Even in the recent dominating win there's just no meat on the bone there. Nothing that stands out. -
Little early to be near blind drunk on a Monday isn’t it?
-
At the end of the day Renfrow was available for a reason. But ball placement matters and it has to get better. Renfrow hasn't been the only one affected by it either.
-
If it motivates them and they play well and back it up then more power to them. It's a two way street though.

Shutting out the Falcons is still a uniter for the fanbase for the most part. It's just not in the way it used to be or what it once was for multiple reasons. People who feel like they aren't seeing enough rejoice over it are missing the point. Instances like this would carry more weight if they were more frequent against our rivals for one. For two. This place also as has been noted before has taken on an echo chamber effect the last several years where all the losing has given way to factions of fans either fully apathetic or fully doubling and tripling down in defense of the powers that be and moves and decisions that have been made. And as a result from that the huddle has also moved to a distinct complete lack of outside views and chatter that in the past had been a source of change of pace entertainment and also more importantly a uniting force for fans here to rally around each other in opposition to. We used to have a number of Falcons fans visiting here over the years and driving home how much we dislike them. Same with the Saints. We even had some visiting Bucs fans from time to time. That's all long gone. Until we get back to instances like this becoming more commonplace nothing will change.

Not anything necessarily new in terms of what we already know. But it is good to see the team sending a message and putting it out there directly. https://www.newsweek.com/sports/nba/hornets-want-see-more-out-lamelo-ball-report-2133538

Tepper has no problem giving conmen generational wealth. But we still can't get the field quality right.
-
If you win 30-0 in a game where the opposing QB was so atrocious he might as well have been wearing a Panthers jersey and the best compliment you can give your own QB is at least he didn't turn the ball over. That's a bubble just waiting to burst. Panthers fans should understand this sort of thing as much as anyone in professional sports by now.

Jets played the Bucs pretty tough recently the Cowboys always give us problems outside of rare ones like 2015 and the Patriots or Dolphins could be a toss up.

Those 3 specific games are through November 2nd. So a little over a month. Not sure what we're arguing about.
