I see us signing a low end safety and maybe a WR but that's probably it besides a few practice squad like players. I hope Spiller and Bush decide not to sign with New Orleans but then again they have injury issues so they may end up not even playing many games for them.

Idk saying the SEC is overrated is kinda hard considering Florida and Alabama won multiple championships, Auburn won one and went to a national championship game and LSU won one all within the last ten years. A lot of top NFL prospects come from those teams as well. You could argue that they have dropped off some the past two years since the SEC hasn't won any national championships but they are still the best by a long shot.

The reason Cam isn't in a hurry to sign a contract
rmoneyg35 replied to GoobyPls's topic in Carolina Panthers
Your right Cam is just waiting to leave Carolina to join the Texans or Browns. -

Gettleman: Oher can be answer at left tackle
rmoneyg35 replied to Jeremy Igo's topic in Carolina Panthers
It could happen. If he can be average in pass blocking above average in run blocking I will be happy. I believe that's a realistic possibility. If we can draft someone like Havenstien or Williams in the 4th I would feel pretty safe with our offensive line. -
I didn't realize Helu ranked so high in those categories. He could possibly have big numbers with the raiders. Any news on how much the contract was for because I was wondering if they overpaid considering all the cash they have. Helu was one target I would have loved to come to Carolina.

Raiders in discussions with Greg Hardy
rmoneyg35 replied to Kevin Greene's topic in Carolina Panthers
I wish Greg the best but it seems a lot of free agents have went downhill once going to the Raiders. -
Would love to get this guy and we could probably get him in the 3-4th round. I heard he can play both safety positions which makes him more useful.
-
We need specialized players so our starters don't get hurt on special teams. Our special teams cost us one game against the Vikings and hurt us plenty of others to a lesser extent. I just hope we have special team players who can contribute as a successful back up when called.
-
Great point there. I forgot how good the chargers were statistically that year and guess who their defensive coordinator was?
-
Because Hill doesn't have special teams experience. Gettleman must see something in the kid. I don't know if it's just for special teams or if he sees him competing for the nickle back role. He didn't play college football and played some WR in the NFL before jointing the Jags so he was pretty raw and may just be getting at the point where he can do something in the NFL.
-
Your right just ask the Patriots. We need to fix special teams and signing a bunch of free agents with special teams experience means more competition in training camp which will make us better. I wouldn't be surprised if we sign a few more guys for special teams like the linebacker from San Diego.
-
I saw he only played one defensive snap his whole career but was he a special teams ace? I am trying to understand why we are paying him over 2 million for 2 years.
-
Never understood why he never worked out in the NFL, he had so much praise before the draft. Ingram took a few years to develop so maybe Richardson could as well. With the right coaching maybe he could turn his career around. He wouldn't cost much and would be a better #3 than Reaves.
-
I don't want to have to play against Adrian Peterson twice a year.
-
As much as I like the guy I just don't see us drafting him.
-
No but it helps having an experience vet that can get the job done decently if we are not able to draft/sign someone in that position. If we didn't sign Oher then we would be panicking come draft time and more than likely have to reach for a tackle instead of going BPA. Gettleman likes going BPA and if you have a major hole at any position it forces you to fill that position in the draft. This is a major reason players are drafted a round or two early and end up being bust. BPA over need!
-
Agree completely which is why I hope we somehow acquire more draft picks. If we could trade down and get an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick it would be like getting another starter. Also if the top tackles are gone when we pick I see no reason why we can't draft a WR in the first, pass rusher and safety in the second and third then draft someone like Havenstein or a Daryl Williams in the fourth round. I could see our draft going like this 1st: Jaelen Strong 2nd: Owamagbe odighizuwa 3rd: Safety 4: Tackle Or possibly drafting a safety in the second if Gettleman sees on that is BPA and then drafting DE Flowers or Preston Smith in the 3rd. Either one seems like a winner to me.

Well the Patriots had Lafell, Browner, Revis and Blount this year and each played a major role in the super bowl run. While I understand and mostly agree with what you say I must say that free agency does matter quiet a bit but it's all about not over spending, finding the hidden gems and not signing a bust.

The jets getting a good back up QB with plenty if experience is far from a crazy move.

Drafting well and finding UDFA are key to being successful in the NFL. If it was all about free agency then Washington would have won quiet a bit of super bowls in the past 10 years. Finding the Right free agent can help win a Super Bowl as well but it's just not as common. Patriots got Browner and Revis, Lafell and Blount who played key to the Patriots winning the Super Bowl. In the past teams needed that one extra piece of the puzzle to win a Super Bowl for example: Deon Sanders with the 49ers and Cowboys. Todd Hayley going from the 49ers to the Cowboys was a big move. Brees to New Orleans. Packers signing Woodson. Even a smaller signing like Jacoby Jones to Baltimore. While drafting well is the most important part and is responsible for most of the Roster sometimes one or a few free agents can be the difference between a Conference champ and Super bowl champ.

True. In fact there are a lot of decent safeties in free agency that could be an upgrade to what we have and there are quiet a bit of pretty good safeties that are coming off of major injuries if we wanted to take the risk. I do believe there are still a few safeties that could be drafted in the 2nd-3rd round that could start. We would have to get one in early rounds since there isn't much depth at the position.
-
Well we could draft a WR in the 1st round, get a safety in the 2nd or 3rd round and a nickle back can be found in the 4-5 round. Add a solid tackle and RB and there's our roster for 2015.
