Can that be applied for online?

Yeah. That's what I had my guys who lost their homes do. They got 750 direct deposited in like 3 hrs after the application. They didn't meet with the actual FEMA guy until this Sunday which was 5 days later and he did the actual damage assessment then. They'll get their actual disbursement in like 7-10 days

I saw the bodies floating at the Spruce Pine Ingles rumor and it was pretty quickly shot down. There was also a rumor about naked kids running around screaming looking for the parents that was attributed to Spruce Pine.

There are probably tiny kernels of truth behind all these rumors that then take flight and grow into something totally different. Yeah, there have been bodies found in streams. Yeah, there have been children separated from parents. All this poo has happened but these occurrences take off and grow like wildfire into something way more than what they actually were. The reality is plenty bad enough as is without hyperbole.

Yeah I mean. He told me about that before it became the Internet rumor and it makes me think it started in the emergency response community. He WAS coordinating the trucks but turns out it was for something else. He just allowed himself to connect the dots by suggestion alone.

I mean I've seen and smelled bodies. I watched the pull the girl that was smashed up against the bridge pilings in front of my shop out of the water the day before yesterday.

I've been in the area every day with my equipment and people since Saturday of last week. But tragedy makes for rumor and on and on

It’s not false.  My friends that were out there earlier in the week reported bodies in trees in the valley, but they could not get to them because the valley was impossible to get to. Also yesterday in certain spots medical people had to leave bodies and trees because they knew they were already dead to help people potentially still in the mud that were alive

Yeah I'm not discounting what you said but he specifically told me about bodies at the Ingles because that's what was relayed to him by another emergency responder.

Yep. It's crazy the rumor mill. Even my friend from highschool who's an Avery county EMS that I mentioned earlier on the thread who told me about bodies in spruce pine that he was having to coordinate refrigeration trucks for fell victim to the gossip mill among the literal rescue workers.

Turns out the trucks were for medical storage and there were no bodies.

Thanks. Have y'all been up that way? If there's a need for volunteers up that way that's where I'd prefer to head tomorrow. I was just working under the assumption that 19E was probably still closed.

I haven't personally but I know lots of people out there doing work clearing roads and trying to get to houses that are still cut off. If you want me to try to see if any of them would like some additional volunteers, I'll reach out in the morning. But I'm about to lose cell phone service for the next couple hours.

  6. Been trying to get out to the Sutherland area. Where Hoskins Fork meets the North Fork. I spent a large portion of my childhood in a run down farm house with no refrigerator but a spring fed hold house and one wood burning stove on Oscar Rd. There's people I care about a lot that I haven't heard from yet out there. Couldn't make it through hwy 88 to get there.

Poga doesn’t doesn’t exist anymore is the word. 2 Blackhawks are covering that area and old Beech side with supplies. I just realized you’re referring to Ray Hicks with Jack tales, you have mountain credibility, thumbs up!

Damn, that's what i was afraid of but also expecting to hear unfortunately

Sir this wasn't a take. No disrespect if you enjoy living in isolation. Just not something I could do personally. Not judging anyone.

Man unless you choose not to, no matter how far out you go you can get access to Internet and all the towns, even small ones, have modern conveniences. It's not like deliverance out there except for very few areas

Sorry, it was Avery County. I've been up all night and got the emails confused. I'm still getting details about other Counties we need to visit. My team is covering 6 counties and had to get other groups help us with the 8 remaining. I do not have many specific details to release just yet.

The Avery/Watauga county like bisects the area I'm talking about so still could be

    Old or new Beech?

Old Beech. Like Jack Tales Beech. Up above elk River and whatnot. You can access the area from either 321 going towards Tennessee at trash can falls, coming down from the town of Beech MTN or off a road at the Red Barn off 194 outside of banner elk. There's hundreds of houses down in there and I haven't heard from anyone

I'm receiving emails all morning directing us to ares I'm Wataga County ASAP. We we warned it will be hard for my folks to witness. I'm guessing they've found more bodies there. My team is going to need stress counseling when thos is over.

Any idea what part? Im still trying to contact a decent amount of people that I haven't heard from. I have a bunch of people that I care about on the back side of Beech MTN up above trash can falls that nobody can get to yet that I'm aware of. In the flood in 2004 I couldn't get within 5 miles of their house and my buddy rode a 4-wheeler through the woods to get to me.

Never thought in a million years this would happen to Western NC of all places.

Still kind of shocked at the flooding considering it was a quick moving storm it didn't stall for 3 days.

    Prayers to everyone.

To add to what Linville said; the storm did stall of a sort. The precursor frontal boundary stalled and was fed moisture from the storm it rained hard starting Wednesday night and didn't stop and then the storm swept through on Friday

The people I know in WNC are largely outside of Boone and Asheville and .gov is nowhere to be seen, per usual.

So are mine and I've seen them in places. There's national guard in the backside of snake MTN on the zionville area near my buddies horse ranch and it's in the middle of fuging no where
