Don't think so, mostly because our 2nd rounder is way too low down. If we still had our original 2nd round pick we gave to the Bears in the Bryce trade, I could totally see them trading into the bottom of R1 if Mike Green fell. Or Maybe Piece or Ezeraku, whichever one they were in love with I guess.
-
called it. Lol.
-
This has to be Walker or Green
-
There's going to be plenty of pass rushers to choose from in R2. I do expect them to trade up for one though in R2 if there's a run on pass rushers early in the round.
-
Kenneth Grant to the Dolphins is a very solid pick.
-
the Cowboys do have a history of drafting Oline in R1 in recent years, maybe not super off beat to draft him. I think it just defied all the mock drafts that had them picking Golden or Jeanty or Tet.
-
That is also super high for Tyler Booker. Cowboys get a Guard with pick 12.
-
That is HIGH for Mykel Williams!!! Wow!! to the 49ers... Maybe Jaylon Walker will drop quite a bit!

NFL + video keeps going down for me. Figures. Didn't expect the Bears to select Colston Loveland.

Round 1 - Panthers Select Tetairoa McMillan at Pick 8
Hoenheim replied to Bear Hands's topic in Carolina Panthers
Didn't see that coming at all. Wow. I think I actually like this selection better than selecting a tweener pass rusher in Jaylon Walker. They picked the top WR in the draft when we have an underwhelming WR room. It's hard to blame them but it's going to make repairing the defense much harder I think. -
Wouldn't be mad at that tbh. We really need to start hitting on those R2 - R4 picks though. No more gamble luxury picks like Jonathon Brooks in R2 or weird curveballs like DJ Johnson in R3. Just pick good players with good production without injury issues. I think the Panthers in recent years have had a big issue with gambling on projection vs just taking the dudes who already fuging produced well in college.
-
Im probably not going to like our pick, since I personally want Mike Green or Donavan Ezeraku. I fully expect it to be Jaylon Walker. Won't be mad at it, but it doesn't feel like a slam dunk by any means. Probably similar to how I felt drafting Brown or Horn, I wasn't super excited but they ended up being good at least. The only pick ive been horribly upset by in recent memory was the 2016 draft and Vernon Butler. I was mad as a mother fuger!! Felt similar selecting DJ Johnson and Jonathan Mingo, although Butler was worse. If im ever super upset at a pick its usually a bad sign lol

They're making this poo way too obvious. If its clear you're desperate for something to happen then no one's going to give you a good deal, you've already lost all your leverage. That and all the other teams know this draft doesn't have much top end talent and the players are pretty similar in skill level from pick 10 to pick 45. I think the only players that would bring some serious trade up consideration for the Panthers would be Mason Graham, Ashton Jeanty, or Sheddur Sanders fell to 8. I could see the Cowboys trading up for Jeanty or Steelers trading up for Sanders. Unlikely but at least logically possible. Steelers would have to give us their 2026 first and at least one pick this year imo. Which would sting this year but would be really nice to play around with two 1sts next year. You could bundle those and trade up for a dominant WR 1 or something in 2026.

Why do so many mock have Kenneth Grant dropping so far??
-
Basically my thoughts. Dont over think it and get the best pass rusher not named Abdul Carter. I doubt theyll do that though. 99% of the time the Panthers pick players i dont want. I think the only time in recent memory they picked a guy I particularly wanted was JaTavion Sanders, DJ Moore, and CMC. That's it in the last decade or so.

Trading Down Could be a Gold Mine in This Draft!!
Hoenheim replied to Hoenheim's topic in Carolina Panthers
Did Antonio Brown look like Antonio Brown in college? He had to have been a 6th Rounder for a reason -

That's a good point. Then look for us to trade up in R2 imo, especially if we go offense with pick 8 -

And if they can't find a reasonable trade down (I think we would need a 2nd rounder this year bare minimum to make any trade down worth it). I would definitely expect Dan to trade UP for an EDGE or LB in the top half of R2. Just makes too much sense. We also have a plethora of mid round picks to use as ammo. -
I don't mean to make this a mock draft thread particularly, but every time I do a mock I have been investigating the talent that goes off the board between picks 8 and our low 2nd rounder pick 57. There is a gargantuan amount of talent still left on the board in the top half of the 2nd round every time I do one. Losing our original 2nd round pick to the Bears as the last pick of the Bryce trade stings badly . I'm particularly looking at elite players like Carson Schwesinger (LB), Luther Burden (WR), Matthew Golden (WR), Maxwell Hairston (CB) , Nick Scourton , Landon Jackson, Donavan Ezeraku (all DEs/OLBs) . The sweet spot in this draft really feels like pick 15 to 40 - ish. This is why the Bears should be making bank with this draft. I don't know how realistic a trade down is from 8, but if we could pick up any teams higher 2nd rounder and still grab their 1st? We'd be cooking with gas man. Say for example we get Tet McMillan at pick 8, if you wait all the way to 57 you stand the chance of not getting any impact pass rushers in this draft. And I don't think this team can afford that. I'd personally love for them to take a break from drafting wrs in R1 or R2 (i think we've taken one in the top 2 rounds in the majority of the past few years), and stick to repairing the nfls worse defense in history (in terms of total points against iirc, or was it yards? Also included my most recent mock as an example . Don't put too much into the late round selections lol Especially if Donovan Ezeraku or Mike Green falls to R2. OH BOY.

NFL.com's Chad Reuter's 4-round mock draft
Hoenheim replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
That's pretty solid imo. I like walker Higgins and mukuba. Don't know who belton and Parrish are honestly -
I know what you mean but the ultimate point is we haven't drafted any very good players that late since maybe Josh Norman. And his greatness wasn't particularly long lived either lol. For example the Rams found Puka Nacua in R5 and steelers pull receivers out their ass in any round, and we can't draft them to save our lives (in recent memory, i can only think of DJ Moore being very good ). That's not super recent either that's 7 flipping years ago now.
-
Meanwhile the Rams can find Puka Nacua in R5 at the absolute perfect time and the Steelers stumble into Antonio Brown in R6. And the Panthers continue to draft big ass project WRs every year in the top 2 rounds and hope one of them evolves into AJ Brown. The Panthers have had a really bad problem with piss poor talent evaluation for quite a while now.
-
That was our last decent draft. The only problem is all the drafts after that one have been terrible and that's why we're where we at right now. Also, this franchise is fuging terrible at drafting in late rounds 5 - 7 . I know its hard to find good talent that late but damn, we wasted a fug load of picks in those rounds. That has me worried about our 25 draft this year. We have a good number of picks but a lot of them are in R4 - R6. Go figure.

REPORT: Panthers like Mykel Williams
Hoenheim replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
You don't draft projects with the #8 overall pick. Especially not when your next pick isn't until pick 57. If we picked Stewart or Mykel Williams that tells me Dan Morgan had big say in some of the more head scratching draft choices in the past few years and we might have given Fitterer too much of the blame. -
After Day three.... New draft strategy?
Hoenheim replied to BeenPounding's topic in Carolina Panthers
I would argue the Legette, Mingo, DJ Johnson picks were drafting for need vs BPA . I really think Morgan and Canales fumbled hard in their first draft. Could've had something like McConkey and Fiske vs Legette and Brooks which is criminal. Draft last year was mid with legette ,JT Sanders, Wallace, and CS Wade being decent but nothing great thus far anyway. The Brooks injury really pulled this draft down from maybe a B to a C . Now we're banking on Legette making an exponential leap coming off foot surgery in year 2 to make this class redeemable.
