Don't see the comparison at all. One is a race or nationality you are born into. Being a fan of a football team is a choice people make and can unmade. You don't make fun of someone about who they are but having some fun about a fan showing up at a Panther camp with an opposing jersey doesn't meet the definition of racist or a bigot. No one excluded the woman or was nasty. There are plenty of easy examples of racism to choose from but your post is a fail from beginning to end. Just sayin....

Charles Johnson on cutting Ibe. Has a point!
panthers55 replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
That is stupid. Any coach worth their salt teaches that you don't knock the crap out of your own teammates. You save it for the opponent on game day. You can be physical without being reckless and that hit was reckless and over the top. Somehow equating this to politics and being weak just tells me how little you know about coaching football. Football is a violent sport but it is controlled violence with a purpose. The kid was a sacrificial lamb to make a point and teach a lesson that being stupid and out of control results in consequences. Rhule just showed what that could be. -
Horn doesn't have to change that much to be legal. Instead of grabbing and holding you do what Sherman often did which is tug and give little pulls which slows the receiver down but not change his direction or severely impede his movement. You don't wrap your arm all around his waist with your off hand when you go for the deflection, you put your arm on him but not so obviously. Hopefully one of the vets can help him be aggressive but less noticeable to the officials.

I do too if he is the best guy we have at that position but we have all seen workout warriors who struggled to play as well as they train. Hopefully he is the real deal and immediately can contribute wherever he is needed. We have struggled to keep our lines healthy for some reason.

Let's see what happens in the preseason games. All of those defenses were top 10 with 2 being top 3 last year. So let's see how the offense operates from starters down to backups and wanna bes. We wil have plenty of good looks and see both man and zone with lots of blitzing. We will see who the physical guys are who can hold their own and get separation.

If you want to blame anyone for Teddy blame Brady. If I remember discussions from when Bridgewater was signed it was because Brady was lobbying for him after working with him for 2 years in New Orleans.

Training Camp Day 1 - Thoughts and Observations
panthers55 replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
You are right. Richardson helped pay for upgrades to the facilities which benefitted Wofford and also made it acceptable for training camp. So the facilities, location and few distractions made it ideal. Even the heat hardens you for September games which should be hotter on the field now that we replaced the grass with artificial turf. -
The whole we have to save space and not pick who we want is belied by NO who spends every year and fits everything under the cap. And because these contracts are transparent it isn't like everyone else couldn't do the same. Truth is we can bring in who we want and still have plenty for next year. I love how everyone acts like it was their money instead of Tepper who is a billionaire.

The worst with a clean pocket, the worst in the red zone…
panthers55 replied to AceBoogie's topic in Carolina Panthers
It takes no insight to predict failure given he hasn't been successful while playing for the Jets. It takes a lot more insight and effort to evaluate the differences in his situation and predict potential or qualified success. If you are wrong and the team is doing well you can always point out anything that Darnold does wrong. If he sucks then you can post ad nauseum about how right you are and how you could read the tea leaves. So you can get off your high horse and stop acting as if you know something no one else does. You are just taking the safe easy position which takes no effort or insight at all. -
Hope, but be real. We don't know what Darnold is, but that's OK.
panthers55 replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
I thought that a big reason was Bridgewater didn't get better as the season unfolded. He failed to thrown it downfield even when it was wide open or it was the fourth quarter and we were behind. He didn't show urgency or any ability to rally the team. I imagine the negative press wasn't as big a deal as his big guaranteed salary. -

panthers55 replied to top dawg's topic in Carolina Panthers
The question for everyone has been why did Darnold suck, when the only question to answer is what will it take for Darnold to have a great year this season. If you agree that Darnold had the physical tools to be great and that he wants to be coached and is doing everything he has been told to do, then what will derail him? Are poor decisions due to limited intelligence, impulsive behavior or PTSD responses? Or are they do to poor coaching and poor scheme? Is he the problem or a symptom of a larger problem. I hope the coaches are as good as advertised and will devise a scheme which showcases Darnold's talent. I hope Darnold plays within the scheme and recognizes that he isn't the best athlete on the field so get the ball to those that are. And I hope that we give him the whole 2 years to get this scheme down pat based on good but not great play this year. He has all the things he needs for success now we we allow it to unfold. I am going to be on board the Darnold train as long as it rolls. -
How many elite players do you expect on one of the youngest teams in the league???

Carolina Panthers: 5 big riddles Matt Rhule must solve at 2021 camp
panthers55 replied to SBBlue's topic in Carolina Panthers
The problem with sitting CMC is that there isn't a better player who can break it for 6 on virtually any play. He is our most explosive player who is useful even as a decoy. And he hates to sit out. He wants the ball on every play. I can agree he needs more breaks but I wouldn't blame the head coach alone for overusing him. Usually the OC controls how many reps and how many potential touches players get based on the plays we run. -
REPORT: No movement in Panthers’ talks w/ Taylor Moton
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Another failed analysis on your part as usual. As I and many others said he was going to be signed long term and tagging a player multiple times wasn't even a thought. And you are wrong that Moton didn't get what he wanted. He was very willing to play under the tag and take his chances next year so the Psnthers wisely used that and made the contract an extension instead of replacing the franchise tag. Moton got his 13 million plus guaranteed this year and another 43 million for the contract for a total of almost 57 million fully guaranteed which is more for example than Ramszyck got which is only 43 million fully guaranteed. Some of the 60 million of his reported guaranteed money is only guaranteed for injury or if he is still playing. The Panthers got a 5 year deal and fronted much of the guaranteed money so the dead cap in the last 2 years is manageable. His contract makes him the 8th highest paid tackle in the league by average salary. He was ranked the 9th best tackle in football in 2020 so it was a fair contract. PFF thought it might be somewhat of an overpay. But it appears a win - win for both sides. No one caved and no one was threatening multiple tags but you. https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-carolina-panthers-taylor-moton-franchise-tag-4-year-72m-deal-contract-extension It is okay to admit you were wrong and let it go instead of going back and forth over a moot point now that he is signed longterm. But since you can't stop or admit you were wrong let me help. I won't be responding because now you are acting like a troll and we all know to not feed the trolls. -
You appear to be correct. The contract is an extension rather than replacing the franchise tag. Maybe it is me but I don't remember seeing a contract structured like this. It ends up being a 5 year deal if you include his franchise tag. The guaranteed amount is actually higher though since his franchise tag was also guaranteed when he signed his tender. So it is closer to 57 million for 5 years guaranteed. Right??
-
The long term contract replaces the franchise tag contract so he will likely count less than 13 million unless they decide to frontload the contract by giving him a good signing bonus plus a good salary for 2021. Usually the signing bonus is in lieu of a big salary year 1 which reduces the cap number since ithe signing bonus gets prorated. The whole reason to sign him longterm is to lower the cap of a franchised player and lock him up for years.

REPORT: No movement in Panthers’ talks w/ Taylor Moton
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Just like I said he would be signed long term. Hundreds of posts debating a 2nd and third tagging for nothing. Now what do we bitch about? He isn't playing left tackle so he is way overpaid? Or we can bitch about the terms or the guaranteed money? Personally I am going to enjoy we locked him up. After all it isn't my money, why should I care. NO has proven the cap can be manipulated very easily. -
Exactly. The total number is irrelevant. The guaranteed amount appears fairly good at 43 million. The signing bonus will be a large piece of that and maybe the first 2 years salary. By the time it gets expensive the guaranteed money will be accounted for outside of the remaining proration on the signing bonus so we can keep him or cut him at that point.

What will a week 1 loss to the Jets do to Darnold?
panthers55 replied to CanadianCat's topic in Carolina Panthers
If Darnold plays well and we lose, it won't hurt his confidence at all. But if he plays poorly then win or lose it could have a negative impact on his confidence. -

He was tagged twice but bolted in free agency to the Vikings where he got a big 3 year deal. -

I get it. You try to take the high road and keep things civil but it is tough when others constantly take low blows and it is tolerated on this board with no repercussions. I guess I have always heard we teach folks how to treat us. -

Most of the time making comments like that tells you more about the person making the comments than it does about who they are made about. -
REPORT: No movement in Panthers’ talks w/ Taylor Moton
panthers55 replied to TheSpecialJuan's topic in Carolina Panthers
Other than Walter Jones I can't remember a player actually playing 3 times on a franchise tag. Multiple folks have been tagged twice but the large majority were signed long term before the second tag took effect. It is used as leverage to get a long term deal. Teams and players don't expect to actually play multiple times with the tag. Usually because the cost gets prohibitive. The cost next year will be 120% of the average of the top five guys salaries at offensive tackle or 120% of his prior salary whichever is larger. So the amount may be greater than simply taking 120% of his salary this year or adding 144% to what he is projected to make next year if other guys get big contracts when the cap goes way up next year. -

Again waiting to see what happens tomorrow before speculating on what might or might not happen next year. Chances of him not signing appear fairly high but it seems the reluctance is on Moton not the Cats. Still hopeful something long term can be worked out. -

And since a player holding out wouldn't have signed their franchise tag agreement they don't have to pay anything back and wouldn't be under contract.
