I guess part of this is also does the coaching staff have more to work with?

Considering the coaching staff had a hand in who we got, Canales got his OL and an upgraded WR and Evero got some of his guys.

I think they might feel like it's a better fit for what they have in mind. I'm sure they would have liked to keep Luvu and he's really the only one I wish we'd been able to keep, but for the most part I think they are getting who they want.

That is Morgan's supposed job. Get Canales and Evero the folks they want while fitting it in the cap.

  2. The potential is there to be better but it is all about fit. It doesn't matter what your individual skills may be if you aren't in a good system that fits your strengths. Every new coach says the goal is to maximize the players potential but at least in our case it hasn't happened in a long time

It was reported by some of the beat reporters he wanted David Carr. Not a small amount either...

Plus it was proven recently that frank, Thomas brown, and campy were not on the same page/thinking. It's a big mess when your OL doesn't know how far the QB is off the ball during the week. Brown wanted to try different plays and frank wanted to stick to their Frankenstein playbook made during the off-season.

It wouldn't surprise me if fittererererer told frank after a few weeks "guess what, we are trading for the #1 pick" before Frank agreed with it. FItterererer had David tepper putting massive amount of pressure to find a "franchise" QB and after failing to land Watson, stafford and the darnold fumble.......the only remaining way was to trade into the top 1-3. That maybe the biggest fail of them all.....

Mentioned something similar. Seems the all-star cast didn't agree on much and it lead to infighting and coaches going behind each others backs. Total dysfunction on the offensive side.

  4. Hard to know how things will turn out but I do think we will be better and it isn't about just the players. Reich thought bringing in guys from different backgrounds and thoughts would lead to them all working together and complementing each other. Instead it lead to cliques and infighting and tattling to Tepper which lead to a disaster and coaches being fired midseason.

Canales has brought in his people who he knows and trusts. They should meld much better on offense which was the issue. He also knows to leave Evero alone and stick to the offense.

  5. Truth is you need to compete each year to the best of your ability if you don't want to get even worse as all your players jump ship. So you have to have a mix of vets and young guys to learn from the Vets. So do you need good vets on 1 or 2 year deals to be competitive and show the young guys the ropes? Absolutely. Andy Dalton was brought in specifically to mentor Young not be a long term solution. I would think Clowney would be as well. Bring in young guys like Young or draft picks for the long haul. I heard Clowney had some dog in him. I know he was bit by a dog early in his career. Maybe they can both resurrect their careers here. If anyone can motivate them it is Evero.

  6. No clue how things will go this year but like usual I am optimistic. Only now I won't be making any bets on us like I did in the past. I am fine with the changes because let's be serious, how much of a 2-15 team do you want to hold on to.

Did you watch our guard play last year? Marginally better and not better? What are you smoking?

Which week? It was a turnstile every week with different bodies in and out with various injuries. I hope these new guys can stay healthy all year. That would be a big upgrade in itself.

Luvu hasn’t made much in his career. He’s getting older. Don’t blame him for getting the biggest deal he could.

True but he was going to paid either way. Just not sure it was all about the money, maybe it was.

LOL If deals reflect actual quality that would mean something then Thomas wouldn't have been such a waste of a roster space for years. The Panthers paid Darnold 19 million for a season that they traded for Baker. Nice cope, keep trying. Even your insults are lame and off target.

Don't you have someone else to play with that can inflate your ego? Yet you keep coming back with nothing to me. You have no substance but thanks for the playtime kiddo.

So when you have nothing of value to add you go for the personal attacks. How very immature and huddle like. Usually my turn to exit when the conversation devolves to this level.

  10. Morgan's job is to get the coaches their guys. I wonder how Evero felt about Luvu and whether he had any say in the matter. Or did Luvu not like our system or was it all the money?

Comparing Baker, who has accomplished so much more in his career, even if he sucked for us, to Thomas is laughable. Thomas is the equivalent of Matt Corral, not Mayfield. I don’t get these fans who disappear in season the past 6 years as we’ve sucked balls only to reappear every offseason defending every move the team makes.

It’s Ian freaking Thomas. He sucks. All we see of him is lowlights. He’s supposedly a great blocker and yet there are always videos of when he gets blown up by a LB or when he gets taken down easily by a smaller DB. I certainly don’t recall the last team we talked about him doing something good, but by all means we should keep paying him new money and not drafting TEs.

You clearly don't know how to read. I didn't compare them as players I compared them flaming out in past systems  and then said Baker found a good fit and had a career year under Canales. If Canales is able to do for Young what he did for Baker then guys like Thomas could also be productive.  Up until last season Baker did not have a great career and he was thought washed up.   None of what you said is even  tangentially related to what I said.

Lol Tampa went to the playoffs because the NFCS was trash. If there was one good team last year Tampa wouldn't have made it. If that's your standard it's no wonder why you always pick such sad hills to make a fool of yourself.

And Baker is a jag and Thomas is basically PS level player that always stays here so grest comp lol

Got a pretty big deal for a JAG. Didn't say he was great. I said he sucked in this system and was considered washed up. He went to Tampa is a better system and had a career year.  It proves just because you struggle somewhere you can go to a better system and thrive. Reading comprehension isn't your strong suite I see.

So did Rhule and Reich lol. Hirst was never even there anyways. Again thanks Morgan.

There is no solid way of justifying keeping a known dud in a player.

You mean like Tampa keeping Baker and Canales taking them to the playoffs with him after other teams dumped him. Because players can't thrive under one system and suck under another. How long have you been watching football?

Hahahaha. See last year. It's not like he was just hired here. Those garbage pros last year where on hia watch which he did with his friend and boss. If you want to live in fantasy land by all means have fun.

And you were there when the decision was made so you know who was for or against it. Seems you are the one making things up. I guess he was in on the Hurst and Bozeman decisions so why is he canning them.

  15. 5 minutes ago, Waldo said:

It's not saving money keeping a player below backup level.

Obviously Canales thinks differently. Plus with Hurst gone  we have to find a number 1 tight end already so it was a low risk low reward move. I am sure we will bring in a draft pick and maybe a vet on the cheap.

  16. 6 hours ago, WhoKnows said:

He has no clue. What the heck does this mean?

If you release him you lose more money and have to replace him and pay his replacement. I don't think you understand the finances here. We saved money and kept him without pushing anything down the road from what I have read.

This to me says he doesn’t get it. People don't seem to get the simplest thing that we save his salary in cap space and would have saved more last year. They don’t see restructuring bonuses and act like it doesn’t matter to keep kicking the can. A day round rookie TE would be better and cheaper.

The saving money on a poo player because his salary is less than the dead cap is hilarious. It’s like the “new” money versus already sunk money doesn’t get through. Somehow they think paying for Thomas to not be on the team in 2025/2026 (I’m sure we’ll use void years, otherwise it’s all 2024 cap hit in his last year of his contract) is a good thing because we save cap space in 2024. That’s how we’ve had to waste money on poo FAs the past few years because we couldn’t afford the really good players.

Last year is irrelevant. It is 2024. Why do you save money keeping him? His dead cap hit is right at 3.8 million. His cap hit now appears to be right at 4.5. But to replace him at the rookie minimum it is 750,000 so replacing him with someone with any vet experience will cost as much or more than replacing him.

So no it wasn't wrong to keep him if Canales has use for him in his offense.

  17. 12 hours ago, Waldo said:

He isn't worth keeping so any cap cleared by dumping him was the win. URFAs would have more upside than Thomas at this point.

That isnt true at all. If his remaining dead cap is almost 4 million and his cap hit has been reduced to a little over 4 million he costs very little to retain and S long as he is gone after this year Morgan did a good job  getting something for very little.

You save money keeping him not releasing him and he is gone after this year so no you are wrong my friend.

Morgan looks set for a real dud of an offseason. JFC how is this guy still around. He isn't even a decent backup.

It wasn't that we wanted to keep him. Releasing him cost more than keeping him and getting a salary reduction.  A June 1st designation kicks dead cap down the road. This way we pay less than releasing him and get his blocking. He is worth a backup roster spot
