PFF names Panthers QB Bryce Young the best deep passer
Davidson Deac II replied to pantherclaw's topic in Carolina Panthers
I watched Drew Brees for the last 7-8 years of his career when he had at best, moderate arm strength. But his accuracy/timing on throws 20-30 yards was impeccable, and he was cool under pressure. Those attributes are far more important than the ability to throw it 50 yards on a dime. -
Interceptions are the worse thing a qb can do. When an int is throw, it means either your team missed a chance to score or gave the other team an easy score (or sometimes both). Given how many he throws, I can't imagine any circumstance where I would want Jameis as our starter. Bryce is still an unknown and the unknown is better than the known Jameis.

The arm strength thing is somewhat overrated. A qb who can throw it 35-40 yards with timing, touch, consistency, and accuracy, is better than one who can throw it 50 yards, but doesn't do it consistently, time it right or have good accuracy. Have to admit until recently, Bryce hasn't shown that he can made good 35-40 yard throws consistently. -
Unless Bryce collapses over the last month of the season, that isn't happening.

I think our wide receiver group is ok for now. I think the offense is ok for now for the most part. What we need is defensive front 7 and maybe a safety. Pick the BPA that helps the defensive front 7 at the top spot, and focus mostly on defense. That being said, if a solid oline player, is available in the 3rd or 4th round and they take him, I won't be

I hope he is as good as Gano was. With the game on the line, Gano made many more than he missed. Made three of them during the 2015 run. In 2017, he made a big kick to beat the Patriots, and in 2018, made a 60 plus yarder to beat the Giants. He didn't make every single clutch kick, but then not one single kicker in the NFL makes all of them. The only big miss that I remember is the opening game of the 2016 season against Denver.
-
I think Mr Scott was just referring to Thielen being a veteran presence who doesn't have super speed, but knows how to get open and makes the clutch catches, and not so much to the skill levels of the individual players. And Proehl had two really good receivers beside him (Steve Smith and Moose). Thielen is going to get more targets because the rest of the receiving group isn't at that level.
-
Speaking of Thielen catches, the one he made just before the fumble was ffing amazing. For those that think he should be cut for someone younger, well that is beyond foolish.

Not a chance. If available, they will likely go with Hunter.

The play calling was fine. And we didnt abandon the run. The passing game was working better. Poor run defense, missed fg's, dropped passes, and a fumble cost us the game.- 2,035 replies

McHonkey would be a great football name.

I don't think they will get much sympathy from us on that.

Its not something that could be backed up by data one way or the other. Its just an opinion, like most things stated here. Regarding my comment that started this discussion, Imo its more difficult to find good offensive linemen than wide receivers, due to a number of factors. Granted that anyone that reaches the NFL has elite skills, but I think that most players with the size, strength and skill would rather play on the defensive line. If an offensive linemen does his job well, no one hears his name. But if a Dlinemen gets to the qb a couple of times a game, all the fans know it. Have a good offensive line directly impacts the run and passing attacks. Where as have a good group of receivers only indirectly impacts the run game. Miami's run game has taken a huge hit this year, while ours have improved. I think Hunt is a big part of the reason this is true. Not the only part of course, but a big part.

As much as he struggled last year, I don't think Reich has ever done anything that stupid. I can't remember any coach doing anything that dumb. The closest thing I can remember is in college basketball when Chris Webber called a timeout the team didn't have. But that was a heat of the moment of forgetting and best I can remember, he admitted the mistake.
-
I am never surprised when any college qb does poorly in the NFL. Any surprise that I have would be reserved for any college qb that actually lives up to his billing. That being said, Ward has about as much of a chance as most of the others, ie about 1 in five if you look at qb's picked in the first round.
-
Miami's offense is as good as any in the country. But their defense is not good at all.
-
He had 30 plus seconds left and a timeout, with the ball on the 40 yard line. His kicker had the leg to make it from that distance. How anyone could defend that is beyond me. Just man up, admit you screwed up and move on.
-
The end game series against Detroit was one of the most baffling things I have ever seen. And his defense of it was even worse.

I disagree. Most of the really big guys with athleticism want to play on the defensive side of the ball. Very few want to be a olinemen.
