Dude is what, 20 years olds. The adults in the room should be held accountable not the kids. He is getting an extra 2 million dollars plus they are paying his sister and I believe he is getting a deal with adidas too. I don't blame the player one bit for taking the most money he can get. The schools should be held to a higher standard than a child.
I completely disagree. If one is 20 years old and doesn't have the sense to understand what a contract is, shouldn't be signing them. And from what I understand, these guys have agents advising them.
Once the contract is signed, both the school and the individual signing should be bound by it as long as it follows the law. Otherwise, what is the point of the contract?

This 100 percent.
No matter how good a QB is coming out of college, they can't make up for the other 52 guys on the roster or the 20 or so coaching staff members. And the higher the pick, the worse situation they are often getting into.
I still contend that we're only now beginning to get a decent groundwork to BEGIN evaluating Bryce and his potential or lack thereof.
I agree.
I don't know if Bryce will be the guy for us, but there is enough there to keep going with him, for now.
I think most people forget that when Cam started here, the talent around him was Greg Olsen, Steve Smith, Deangelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart. Young had a terrible group of receivers outside of Thielen. In fact, of all the tight ends and receivers that we had that year, the only one still playing is Tommy Tremble. There might be a couple of them on practice squads or IR.

Not a Duke fan, so I hope he leaves. That being said, I am glad Duke is suing him. If you sign a contract, both sides should have to honor it. And there should be penalties if said contract is not honored.
And I don't really blame Miami that much. This is mostly on Mensah.

And Stroud ended the year on a horrible note, with 10-12 turnovers in his last five games. Just goes to show that unless you have one of the truly elite qb's (and there are maybe 3-4 of those in the entire league, you have to have the right combination of talent around the qb, and the right coaching staff to truly know what you have.

Did Sam Donald win the lottery or something.
If you mean the Seahawks qb, don't give a crap about him one way or the other. I just hope the Tarheel loses.
It is amusing how so many on this board hated Darnold, and he left and got more success. And now a seemingly similar percentage (if not the same posters) hates Young. Which is why I largely ignore the rants about Young here.

One thing I hope the whole BY and CJ thing leads to is the return of drafting QBs and letting them sit and learn a couple years as back-ups. Cam and that era of super rookie changed the game and we can't expect everybody coming in to be NFL ready. I think keeping Darnold and drafting BY or CJ to sit behind him til 2026 would have had monumentally better results.
Front offices fold to media pressure and QB controversies now. Nobody is will to do what the Packers did with Rogers and just say fug you were starting Favre until he's ready to commit full time to welfare fraud.
I agree. In truth, I think starting from the beginning actually hurts most qb's. A few can overcome it, more cannot.

If we had kept Darnold and signed him to a longer contract, half the fanbase would have howled. And would likely not accept him until he won a Superbowl or two.

He’s a great example of building a good team around a limited QB.Something we can definitely do.
If Darnold is limited, then the vast majority of NFL quarterbacks are limited.
I personally don't think he is that limited. Strong arm, decent mobility and accuracy. His problem was that he would play great but then make one or two boneheaded mistakes that would cost the team the game.
He seems to have mostly eliminated that issue, but it took a while.

LOL all the overreaction in this one thread is crazy af.
even the current odds on favorite to win the Most Valuable Player Award this season Qb Matthew Stafford has a bad game.just here recently in a week 17 loss to the Atlanta Falcons Matthew Stafford threw 3 interception & one being a pick 6 .so what does this mean about Matthew Stafford ?
It wasn't one bad game. In his last five games of the season (regular and playoff), he had 8 interceptions and at least 2 fumbles lost. That is a pretty bad stretch that will be on his mind the entire off season.

Hold on now. Something seems to have gotten lost in translation here so I will make it as clear as possible. Sam Darnold is a better QB than Bryce Young at this point in their careers.
I agree. And Sam Darnold year three was worse than Bryce Young year three.
But there are so many things that go into it. What kind of a team does the qb have around them? How well do they interact with the receivers and offensive line. How well do the coach and qb interact? Does the coaches offensive philosphy match well with the qb's skills?

What the fug was that ruling
I think they got it right, mostly. I mean it was a backwards pass.

I guess we just saw why he is a backup. What a terrible decision. Throw it away earlier, or take the sack.

You're going to rile some people up with this one lol. I agree with you, Bryce is nowhere near the physical talent Sam and Baker are with muscling a ball when it needs to be done, but he has shown over and over and over he can throw downfield.
And he does seem to learn from his mistakes and deals better with crunch time pressure.
Not sure if he will ever be elite, but the number of elite qb's is so small, that the odds of getting one are very slim. We are going to give Young at least one more year to see if he is good enough to help the team become a contender. As we should.

The Mannings were the last two highly drafted qbs to win a SB with the team that drafted them.
Nobody else taken in top 10 won the Super Bowl with their original team. Stafford did it but after a trade.
Does Mahomes not count as highly drafted? He was top 10.
But I generally agree. Drafting a QB in the top five is not usually successful. QB is such a crapshoot anyway.

There's never been a HC/QB combo that's went to a Super Bowl and it wasn't within first 5 years.
Only 2 teams had Super Bowl hopes this season that were outside that window.
Buffalo: McDermott and Allen
Baltimore: Harbaugh and Jackson
Both coaches after failing a Super Bowl run were fired at the end of the season.
If memory serves, Andy Reid went to the Superbowl in his sixth season as a head coach. And Donovan Mcnabb was in his sixth season as well.
That being said, I think that is more because the vast majority of coaches don't last more than five years unless they win a superbowl.
For that matter, the vast majority of NFL don't make it much past 3 years.

5th year was earned (barely). That first place schedule will remove all doubt either way. Im betting on a new QB in '27
We played three division winners, along with wildcard teams Buffalo, San Francisco, Green Bay and Los Angeles. I doubt the schedule would be much tougher next year. The division might be though.
-
Regarding the early games, it will help a lot if we have some consistency in the receiving corps. In the early part of this season, his best receiver was a rookie, his go to guy (Thielen) went to another team, and if memory serves, Sanders and Coker were injured. And Leggette has some issues.
I think some of you greatly under estimate how important familarity and being in sync with receivers can be for a QB.
-
This is definitely, beyond a doubt, the right move. Bryce improved this year. In part because he got more comfortable, and in large part due to having better receivers. If he continues to improve, then sign him long term. If not, then get ready to draft someone else.

We will see how Stroud fares next weekend. He was lucky he didn't throw away the game for them as terrible as he was.
Both QB's played poorly.
I do think that NE is a much tougher out for them. If Stroud plays like he did last night, they could easily get blown out. But if Stroud avoids the mistakes, the Texans defense is good enough to win the game for them.
-
The team has gotten a little better in each of DC's seasons. All I want is continued improvement. If it keeps up, by year four, we might be a legit contender.

I mean, did you just watch that game?? So the fuging Steelers are too big of a stage??? Well, it's only gonna get worse.
Purdy, bad as he might be, has literally played deep into the playoffs. A 5-2 record, actually.
Gross, I am defending Brock Purdy. Ugh.
Purdy has one of the better offensive coaches in the NFL on the sidelines. That helps a little.

Well i thought you meant the league not the playoffs so there's that. But I would probably take stroud over Purdy right now. Obviously it hasnt been a great year for Stroud but considering that crappy offense he deserves some credit if they somehow run the table. Even QBs in the past carried by their defense had something to lean on...primarily a run game or a great playcaller. Houston has to get everything they can the hard way on offense. Especially now that nico is out. Pats are gonna be the more balanced team, i won't be surprised if they win convincingly next week.
It will be interesting to see how they react to facing a defense like the Texans.

What they actually need is to totally bottom out next year and pick first in 2027 to reset their franchise.
So use the Browns as a Model?

They needed a rookie sitting behind Rodgers this year
Well, if they had a time machine to look at the future, they could have picked up Tyler Shough in the draft. I sorta wish they had.

And Duke had a contract and Miami poached him anyway.
If I were this kids parent, I would be very disappointed in him for signing then breaking a contract, even if it got him more money.
