The Dolphins are the example of not tieing a team to an overrated QB who can't carry a team. They were so stacked and watched most of their talent go elsewhere so they could pay a mediocre and hurt starting QB too much money. They looked so good beating up bad teams at their peak and couldn't hang with any of the other playoff bound teams. I wonder if getting tossed aside will wake up their HC or if he continues to struggle elsewhere after his early success.

It would be funny if we weren't doing a weaker and dumber version of their build.

They are also a prime example of why teams should NOT Tank.

I think you overestimate the contract Rico would command. If OTC is correct, trading Hubbard would be about $6 mil in dead cap. Not a large chunk.

I didn't give any amounts, so not really over estimating.  He would be an additional investment.  Not saying we should or shouldn't do it.

Trading Hubbard should be a decision made based on the "future" of the team. If they deem Rico a wiser investment, long term, Hubbard is expendable. If they deem Hubbard the wiser investment, long term, Rico is expendable.

That doesn't mean they should have a price that is less than acceptable, however.

Except that we have already invested in Chuba.  Rico would be additional investment.  Its not an either or situation.  If we trade Hubbard, we would likely have a lot of dead money/cap space used up.  At least for next year anyway.

    Also, the flipside from Kaye...

In fairness, most buyers are teams that feel they have a shot at going deep in the playoffs, and Morgan hasn't been in that spot with the Panthers.

If we were 6-2 and Morgan felt we needed to patch one or two holes, I could see him making a trade.

Baseball, the time in between pitches gives you time to ponder the strategy as there is often a lot of it to consider.
the DH has robbed the game of a good part of that.
But a well pitched 1-0 game can be seen as boring, or full of drama depending on your perspective.

Best world series I ever saw was Braves/Twins in the early 90's.  The final two games were both extra inning pitching masterpieces by both sides.

My interest in baseball did wane later, but not because it was necessarily boring.

I keep telling everyone this class is rough. It's very heavy on backup QB's.

But all these folks acted like this 2026 class was gonna be one of the greatest.

My whole point on that was all the guys they mentioned in the list of great prospects for this draft.....skipped this past draft, which was a bad QB class.

    So....how does that math work?

As we have seen, no one can predict how good a class of qb's will be until they actually get to the NFL.

Glorified option QB in the modern era is a tough sell, TBH. It's a weak class but getting 43% of your season's total in passing TD's in one of your 7 games to date is not an easy sell. Close to 300 yds/GM of offense is very respectable.

I am just not sure we are in an era where a guy like that is in serious consideration without insanely dominant stats.

    ACC POY, for sure.

GT's next two opponents are not very good at defending the pass, and Pitt is only average, so he will have a chance to rack up some numbers before he gets to Georgia.  But I agree with you, almost no chance at the Heisman.  POY or Offensive POY, he is the favorite.

    After the playoffs, probably not.

McCarthy in a small sample size has been Bryce-esque in his career start. Just REAL bad.

Given that making the playoffs seems far more likely for Darnold than for anything of the Vikings, maybe they do.

Sure he is a former Panther and stays involved with the team but I think he is a  straight shooter and tells it like it is. He surely seems more positive than folks around here and he surely knows a lot more than folks here. Feel free to respond to me but know I claim no expertise just repost those who I respect and think are.

Residents of a graveyard would be more positive than most of the folks around here.

The "mob" was into a lot of things back in the day. They were fixing fights mostly but branched out into illegal gambling and booze during prohibition. Points shaving was mostly attributed to the coaches or players themselves but I'm sure the mob had a hand in it themselves. But they were making more money in the drug market than they could with gambling by the 1980s and gambling was getting legalized.

The Luchese crime family associate in the good fellas movie (Henry Hill) was involved in one of the worst incidents.

The Perla brothers mobilized a betting syndicate to maximize their potential gain from the scheme. They contacted a local friend, Paul Mazzei, who was known to have influence within major New York gambling circles. Mazzei in turn contacted Henry Hill, a Lucchese crime family associate from New York who had befriended Mazzei while both men were serving sentences in a federal prison. Mazzei and the Perla brothers were particularly hopeful that Hill would enlist the support of his associate, James Burke, to finance the payments to the players and to set up a network of bookmakers who were in on the scheme.

I don't pay attention to gambling or gambling laws much so I have no idea what makes it illegal in this particular case.

Still, an active head coach and player at the same time...wow 😳

It seems to have little to do with taxes, and much to do with providing insider information related to sports betting, ie which players are injured or having other issues.  Also something about working with the Mafia and rigged poker games.
