Wow I'm shocked that the Bengal's have taken the lead

I'm not.  Bengals could be decent with Flacco, and I am not sure the Steelers are that great.  They look good at times, and barely adequate at others.

Not sure I would say lacking him specifically cost us games. Those losses were very much a team effort.

The AT impact would be more so along the lines of not dropping the passes that TMac has or just generally being a more reliable panic outlet for Bryce.

Ultimately Bryce has to get some chemistry with non-AT players. That is starting to happen and that's a positive thing overall.

No doubt he wouldn't have helped much against Jacksonville or NE, but football like most sports is a game of almost.  One or two clutch catches on that last drive against AZ, and maybe we complete the comeback.

I thought so at the time as well. Of course if the rookies/Legette keep developing than maybe not. At least they got a fourth and fifth round draft pick out of it and the saved 7 million as the Vikings picked up his contract.

My guess is that it cost us in early games, especially with Coker and Sanders out.  But if the QB does get in sync with the younger/new guys, that it could work out well in the end.

First 4 - 122 rushing yards per game allowed

    Last 2 - 25 per game allowed.

I mean, to me at least, that is drastically different. That's almost 100 yards difference on the ground per game.

I mean, Penix just sabotaged Atlanta.   That's football.   They ran for 130 despite not even getting a chance to get into their run game thanks to Penix. Jags went for 200.  Every team the first 4 weeks went over 100+ except AZ and AZ had more than both the last 2 weeks combined in that game.

D is clearly better than last year.  But within this season, the last 2 weeks, have really just been sort of wonky.  We aren't what the last 2 weeks says on the ground offensively or defensively.  No team in NFL history is what we statistically did the last 2 weeks.

New England and Jacksonville thrashed us in all aspects of the game, no doubt about that.

Regarding the Atlanta game, Atlanta got the vast majority of their rushing yardage in the second half, when we didn't care to much about the run.  As an example, Nathan Carter on the Falcons last drive when it was 30-0, had runs of 3 yards, 4, 9, 9, 10, and 9.  Throw in two carries by Bijan when we were up by 20 or more in the second half, and that is almost half their total run yards that were mostly meaningless.

In the first half, we limited the Falcons 3 yards or less on all but two carries.  They went to the passing game because we forced them to rely on the passing game.

Against the Cardinals, we shut their run game down, most of their yards were Kyler Murray scrambles.  Might have been some designed runs, I can't remember.  But their running backs did almost nothing. Even with the scrambles thrown in, we still held them to less than 3.8 a carry.

Yeah, it is.  But the last 2 weeks are so far removed from the opening 4……

Not really.  The run defense has been solid except for the opening game and New England.  We shut Arizona's run game down, but early turnovers hurt.  And of course, we shut out Atlanta.

  6. Unless they offer us some ridiculous deal, it won't happen.  Not many in the front office have any ties to DJ, and no reason to trade for him.  And there has been so much turnover in players, relatively few of the current crop of players was here when DJ played for us.

  7. As the others have said, need to stop the run and run the ball.

Especially need to stop Fields from running.  Got to maintain those lanes.   If we do, then he will likely hold on to long and help our sack numbers.

Of course, if Fields looks to bad, there is a chance they may replace him with Tyrod Taylor.

  8. I wish we could keep both of them.  Dowdle is probably the best rb pass catcher we have had since CMC.  But he might have priced himself out of our range though.

I thought i heard something on the broadcast about a back injury. I did not catch the full comment but it was about DJ. I was thinking that they were sure running him a lot if he had a back injury.

I can't imagine the wide receiver coach would be riding to the hospital in the ambulance with him for a back injury.  Unless it was a really bad back injury.

Beating the coons cowboys and bills in the same year is a fever dream

The Bills have one of the best qb's in the NFL, and will be a tough one for us.

But their run defense is statistically the worst we have faced (for the time being), so we might have a shot.

  11. All I wanted this year was to see some improvement from last year.  I thought we could win between 7 and 10 games this year and haven't seen anything to change my mind.  Jets, Saints, and pull a couple of upsets along the way and we met the mark of improving.

To actually have a shot at the playoffs will require playing better in a few areas, such as rushing the passer.

I really don’t understand the turnaround of Wallace and Rozeboom after they swapped roles.

Like can Rozeboom just not think and just hits stuff or is Wallace just damn good at calling defenses.

The signal caller has about 5-10 seconds to recognize the offense and call the defense.  I can't imagine its easy.

Putting players in a position to succeed isn't just football rhetoric, it's a thing that great coaches do with consistency.

I agree, but I also think coaches take a little while to determine what position is best for a specific player.  Regarding Wallace, he started this year with 11 games under his belt, so it might have taken the staff a little while to determine where he is best.

Yeah the Jets are definitely better than their record suggests and the Panthers seem to play so much worse on the road than at home. I'm definitely not going into the game overconfident. Hopefully with the way our run defense has been, we can clamp down their offense and put ourselves in good position for the win. I think it'll boil down to whether we beat ourselves. < 2 turnovers = Panthers win

While we could certainly lose to them, they are really not better than their record suggest.  They have the worst sack ratio in the league. They have the worst passing stats in the league.  They can run the ball, but at least on paper, they should be a good match for us as our run defense is good while our pass defense is not.
