I mean yeah, but a horrible offense and traded your best pass rush to surround your over drafted qb with weapons so you have to give him the tools to prove your investment was right. if we suck at corner or linebacker for a year so be it. but right now the name of the game is see what you have in bryce.

I get what you are saying but if you are a FO  who loaded the line and  brought in a vet WR in FA then and are still desperate enough to reach in order to get all shiny new toys for your “over drafted QB” to function then it doesn’t matter what the name of the game is.   The game is lost already.

I’m  fine with a double dip in round 2 if it falls into place or picking up a 2nd receiver later.  Just don’t want to reach out of desperation.

  2. Many times the best deal is the one you have.  This team has  2 top 40 picks with a draft full of talent and a team full of holes.  Whatever they do they should not squander the opportunity that is sitting in front of them.  Best you can hope for is that they don’t overthink it.

You choose the best by the standards and criteria you set based on things you deem important.

There is no set ranking that everyone goes by. I think this where a lot of people get messed up thinking that everyone buses or has the same ranking of players or ranking system.

This is well stated. I've often wondered and thought maybe there was a weighted composite formula that is scored that makes the grading quantifiable.  It could also include intangible factors such as "dog" and "need".  This is all conjecture and I'm dumb and blind as poo regarding what's in the secret sauce but that would be at least one way to approach it.

I would bet money that only 2 of the Panthers draft picks this year work out for them, if they're lucky.  So anyone thinking the team will get more than 1 starter has their expectations way too high.

Sane me says this is logical, rational and probably correlates with history.

Draft Weekend Panther Fan Me  says all of the guys we pick during the draft are either day one starters or will be solid contributors right away.

Draft weekend Panther fan me needs help...

  5. Pure speculation on my part but I guess you could put the guy on the practice squad.  Somehow I dont think too many teams are looking to purge a LS but could be wrong.  Wouldn't want to waste a roster spot.  I have to think the team and dare I say owner probably have a good relationship with JJ and will keep them in the loop on his retirement plans when he starts mulling it over.

Dude breaks a team record every Sunday and that's gotta be cool for him.

CMC is off the books. We're not paying Burns. We have a QB on a rookie deal. We have no offensive star on the team. Under those conditions you would expect some good moves in free agency because there is some money for it, and we've improved the roster. Even so, Young decides out fate. If he's trash again, then we're obviously cooked.

This is a pretty good assessment IMO.   As mentioned he is on a rookie contract and if he fails to improve we will likely have a high draft pick next year and wouldn't be surprised if we target a QB. I view the moves we've made should allow a young QB to display talent and grow.  The upgrades to the line and beefing up the WR room also help, but it doesnt have to be the guy they have installed there now.  That said, I want BY to succeed but he can't excel under these conditions or show marked improvement, you try to move on.  Sure, it will turn out to be an extremely costly experiment but that is the only path.

    Need a 3rd option.  Unknown.

Anything other than this needs to come with a caveat in my opinion.  I am quite satisfied with the moves they made and it looks like there is a plan.  But...  We don't/cant/won't know whether or not this works until the games are played.

Not hating on Morgan or putting the team down.  I give Morgan and Co all the props as lots of these moves look to be calculated and appear to address holes, but we don't know until they play the games.

The (over)reactions I see make it completely worth the effort of opening and reading them.

Sorry. You must be confusing this place with some other fan forum you moderate. No one would ever overreact here.

  9. I think it’s fine for me personally to be satisfied with the moves as long as expectations are tempered. On paper it looks good.

On defense the Panthers traded  away “best” defensive asset on the team but the defense still looks like it should be able to perform at the same or better level.  While there are no on field everything looks positive so far.

On offense there were glaring holes in protecting your QB and have made additions to protect your QB.    If you go in a different direction and move on from Bryce that foundation should be good for the next guy.

I like the moves and think there is a plan to this but they still need to hit in the draft and it's a given that all of this still needs to equate to field execution and game success.  I think this is still a bad football team but they are a better than last year and things are looking up.

See this is the type of thing I'm talking about. Spread the narrative that he's trying to fix Bryce? What if he is actually trying to fix the issues that he has? Would that be so insane?

My apologies if the post caused confusion.  I thought it was fairly clear that I did think he would need to try and make it work but sometimes what I type is not a clear reflection of thought.

Simply put, the narrative is that Canales is trying to "fix" Bryce.  Canales needs to follow through with said narrative.  If it doesn't work, move on.

Canales has little to no alternative than to spread the narrative that he is looking to "fix" Young.  He may think on the inside that there is no way in hell to fix him but he still has to put that out there and try to make it work.  Reich took an alternate approach and I guess it got him a lucrative retirement package but I think Canales has more career ahead of him than behind him so I believe he is right to go in with this mindset.

That said if you try your best to "fix" him and spend boatloads of money to protect him and it still doesn't work, then you have a case to move on while still being in good standing with Tepper. I'm good with his approach and hope (which is dwindling) it can yield significant results.

You can fix his foot work till he looks like Fred Astaire but the crux of the problem will always be there. Glad Canales is taking this on as his pet project.
