Fields first start halftime stats: 3/4 for 28 yards. 4 sacks.

2nd missed FG by the saints.

Pats offense really looking awful. Saints offense also looking weak. This doesn't seem like a case if elite defenses making it tough to move either.

Our defense is putting our offense in a position to win by constantly forcing teams to punt. We should have be hanging 30 points a game against these weak defenses when controlling time of possession and against defenses that are depleted by injuries. The offense looks leagues better than last year with Darnold at the helm over Teddy. But even the best defenses will struggle against the best offenses in today's NFL. If we want to compete against playoff teams, we need to be putting 30 a game on offense amd we have yet to do that. I feel like we have timw to adjust to make these improvements. But in the meantime I put the blame on Brady for not being able to score 30 plus each of these 3 games. We have to do a better job scoring when we get to the red zone. We are failing 4th down conversions too often. Too many missed chances to compete against the too offenses.

Fitterer made a lot of fantastic value signings that were immediate contributors. Morgan Fox, Daquan Jones, Hassan Reddick, Dan Arnold, ect. I think Burris, Carter Jr., Paradis and Jones are all replaceable. You can't sign everyone to a huge contract. I will say I would sign Burris to another cheap deal. I remember some dark days on previous years with safeties being out of position and that's not happening with the current group. Since he's likely out a couple of games we will get to see what life is like without him. The main guys we need to lock up are Reddick and Jackson. They are both playing out of their mind well. Reddick is getting insane pressure and also opens up Burns even more. Unfortunately that's going to mean paying top 5 OLB money which is in the 15 to 20 million per year range. And Jackson is also crushing it. Tackling well, covering well, swarming well, and seems to have developed into a team leader. He may find himself priced out since we can't lock everyone up and he may be the last man out. But man I'd love to keep him for a couple more years so this defense can continue improving.

I still think Robby was overpaid. He's paid top 10 money and does not produce a top 10 receiver level. We have some huge contracts coming up I would have preferred locking up more guys on defense. We also have Marshall and Shi waiting in the wings. It will be unfortunate to not be able to resign Jackson or Reddick because we overpaid Robby.

Chubba Hubbard... Boom or Bust?
portcity replied to Future of the Funchise's topic in Carolina Panthers
Ran well in the second half. Looked a lot more promising than I'd thought previously. Too early to tell, but if CMC is out we will get to see. -
Another good game for Darnold. 3-0!

Rashaan Melvin played 75% of the defensive snaps last week and did just fine. At least I didn't remember a single snap he played on the first watch....which is a good thing. As a practice squad player he's at the limit of his 2 games tonight before he would have to be promoted to the active 53 man roster to play him next week. My guess is they use this coming long week to get Bouye up to speed.

Articles like this are all clickbait. Lines of games are a much better indicator. For reference, Dallas is a 4 point favorite against both us next week and a 4 point home favorite against the eagles this week.

I still think we overpaid Robby. We have so much good talent on the roster and needed that money to pay some of the upcoming free agents. 15 million per year for Robby is top 10 receiver money and I just don't think he's a top 10 NFL receiver. Happy he's here and nothing bad to say about him, I just think 10 million per year was more in line with where he should be.

Panthers at Texans - What Texans Fans are Saying
portcity replied to Zod's topic in Carolina Panthers
The Texans have looked a lot better than I expected them to. I expected them to be a clear favorite for the number 1 draft pick due to the mismanagement of their front office. The browns are legit and they put up a fight. But without Tyrod I just don't see them having the offense to keep them in. My only concern is that we may continue this trend where we allow other teams to stay in 2015 style and then rely heavily on the defense to hold the entire second half. As long as we continue to tackle as well as we have I like our chances. -
Match-up you are most interested in watching tomorrow at Houston?
portcity replied to mbarbour21's topic in Carolina Panthers
Teddy is gone. Darnold is their guy and CMC is back and healthy. The NFL is an offense driven league now. The defense can't be expected to contain high power offenses the entire season. It's eventually going to cost us games when our offense can't keep up. It may take us a loss or 2 to see this. -
The crazy thing is this is just year 2 of the rebuild and year 1 of being away from Hurney. This defense was put together while leading the league in available cap room and and having 45 million plus in dead cap. The expectations Rhule has are sky high.

Our offense in the first half verse our offense in the second half is what has me most curious to watch. 2 games in a row we have looked incredible in the first half and sluggish in the second. I want to know if this is a consistent trend or if we will make adjustment to correct it. Both games so far weren't so close that we could let off the gas going into the second half, but we did anyway. -
Having so many athletes that can cover and tackle top to bottom is what's really opening the defense up and allowing these mixed packages. I really hope we can retain both Reddick and Jackson. The only problem is they're playing so well we are going to have to pay top dollar for both with a lot of big contracts up coming, even though we will be able to afford it for next year. Shaq has been a stud in coverage too. It's been interesting how few snaps Carter Jr. has gotten too. Seems that the MLB position isn't as important as it used to be in this scheme.

Carolina opens at 7.5 favorite over Houston
portcity replied to TheBigKat's topic in Carolina Panthers
We were 3.5 favorites before Tyrod went down. Still 6.5 point favorites on a neutral field. And the Texans put up a decent fight Sunday. I expected them to be the worst team in the NFL by a mile given how bad their front office has been. -
Jones is on a 1 year deal. Fox is here next year as well. Fitterer has done really well finding some talent in defense at reasonable contracts. Denzel Perryman has absolutely been killing it on the raiders defense. He obviously wasn't a good locker room fit but it shows a good talent evaluation and decision to bring him in at the price we got him at. Those are 3 great off season acquisitions at positions of need at well priced contracts. If Bouye is good too, combined with Horn, this is all on the front office for finalizing the players Snow is doing so well with.

15 million a year is a lot for Robby. I think we paid above fair market value after just a single year. With CMC back, more TE play and more young WR depth that move just didn't make sense at that price. Hopefully I'm wrong but I would much rather have locked up both DJ and Reddick the way they're playing than extended Robby with so much talent behind him.
-
One thing I've considered with Chinn moving to safety is that it had more to do with signing Reddick than actually increasing Chinn's longevity. Chinn's biggest attribute was always his ability to find his way to the ball and I'm curious if him being at safety will limit his ability to do that.

The panthers are currently 3rd in the league in dead cap and 2nd in the league in available cap, and lead the league when combining dead cap with available cap. We are still only 1 year removed from Hurney and the Tahir Whitehead level of offseason acquisitions. I think fixing every single position group is an unreasonable expectation with these current cap limitations. I also don't think Rhule's expectations of the players on the roster rising to his expectations of winning is unreasonable. The Jets have an excellent d line and so do we. Our line significantly outperformed theirs, and I think we are more middle of the pack in olines league wide. Considering where we were going into the 2020 off season, and combining the fact that we are doing this with limited cap space, I think we have made some fantastic lemonade with the lemons Hurney left us.
-
From what u saw last year from Rhule, he seemed more wling to play young guys over vets as time went on. This was the first game of the season and we needed to start off with a win and CMC getting so many touches is the best chance to to that. I'm hoping the Chuba and some of the other young guys get a chance as the year goes on like the young guys got last year. Would really like to see Brady and Deonte get a chance on the OL at guard.
-
That's unfortunate. He has loomed extremely promising.

Last year Snow did a lot of 3 man rushes where we dropped everyone back and hoped we could apply pressure. They never ever seemed to work. I don't remember seeing any of those yesterday. Am I misrembering? If not I'll take it that's just an adjustment that Snow made. The pressure worked yesterday.
