When you defer you allow the other team to choose what they want to do.  You are deferring the choice.  If Philly chose to kick we would then chose to receive the kick again to begin the second half because we deferred the choice.

So if a team defers and the other team chooses to kick, the team that deferred also get the ball back after the half?
