Underrated or Overrated?

Harbingers

Recommended Posts

I was thinking this morning as every actual football topic of this game has been talked into the dirt and today is going to be the slowest day in the history of this year.

Do you feel the Seahawks Rush Defense(Front Seven) is more underrated or their secondary(Pass Pro) is more overrated?

Honestly, over rated in a rush defense aspect, but under rated in pass.  The reason they look so good in run defense is because they don't have to drop extra guys into coverage because of how good the seahawks secondary is (just look at what happened to them when they had to try to overcompensate for Cary Williams).  On the other side, part of what makes their pass defense so good is their pass rush from Bennett and Avril and shorten a QB's internal clock and force them to try to make quick decisions against a good secondary.

Their run defense is still pretty strong...they held stew to under 4 ypc I think. They were missing Wagner that game as well. Biggest problem for us though will definitely be our own pass D. Russel wilson puts some ridiculous touch on his throws. Hopefully our DES can step it up now.

It is interesting they were able to contain AP so well in their two games. But, J Stew was able to get nearly 80 yards against that defense(all be it minus Avril?), Im wondering if thats since he is pure power.

Cam is a threat they need to account for. Teddy was not.

I think that has a lot to do with the style of runs and the QB in the backfield.  Cam changes the game with his ability to run, but more so we run the ball out of the shotgun (Something that Minnesota doesn't do much) and we also run the read option which requires a ton of discipline as opposed to a pro-style run game.

They are solid all the way through, but their pass D is what drives folks mad.

Avril and Bennett can just completely overwhelm average QB's...hell, for that matter most QB's.

If you really want to throw up in your mouth.....the Hawks cap hit for both of them this year....16M, our cap hit for Big Money this year....20M.

DEs haven't stepped up since the Cowboys game.  Hard to expect them to do it now with the great Jared Allen and Charles Johnson starting.

Ouch.

Man I like CJ to, ya he isn't getting the sacks but he pressures. But he's a leader and he's smart.

In that OBJ scrum he was the guy that pulled OBJ out walked him to his sideline and pointed... I can only imagine he was saying "Get the fug over there. You messed up boy."

I hope he will restructure on a four year deal and take the cut like TD did. He obviously loves Charlotte and the Panthers.

Do you mean sign an extension?  That ain't happening.  He would have to take a true pay cut, something that very few veteran players do if they still have another year on a contract.

Really it's Rivera's fault for having Allen and CJ start. Ealy needs to start over one of them and it should be CJ. I don't care if he gets mad. He can go cry on twitter or whatever. At least Allen has shown flashes of something in the run game. CJ has shown poo.

    • 100%. And these same people will claim you have an agenda. You can't have it every way. We had the lowest rated defense in the league last year. Statistically the worst ever. By PFF grades (for whatever that's worth- but they are readily accepted, used, and conveyed by most "reputable" sources), the defense was the worst ever. Not only that, PFF rated our receiving corp the worst in football last season. The absolute worst... out of 32 teams. Which is why regardless of the lip service Canales and Morgan paid to the current guys, they knew it would be criminal not to give Bryce more help. People fixating on team stats and not taking these things into context are stupid, plain and simple, and I'm for one thankful they're not running this team (or probably anything for that matter bc they obviously can't discern reality. Again, going back to the eyeball test these Narrative Nancies seem to hate so much, did they not see the windows Bryce was putting balls into? Have the generally not watched much NFL? Please, please show me the film where all these NFL QBs are making throws like this to this point Bryce was "below average" down the stretch compared to them. Bryce made more wow throws in that 3 game stretch of the Bucs, Chiefs, and Eagles than every other QB combined in all the years since since Cam got hurt I genuinely am baffled by people that can watch throws like that and act like it's nothing. I guarantee you Steve Spagnola, Todd Bowles, and and Vic Fangio didn't think it was nothing after watching the little guy torch them with players those teams would be embarrassed to trot out at the skill position players. The national media spent all year making excuses for Mahomes not having elite weapons when he had multiple 1st & 2nd round talents at the skill positions along with future HoFers in Kelce and Hopkins. Bryce wasn't throwing for 300 yards every week with David Moore and Adam Theilen in spite of jaw dropping throws and you want to say the guy played below average. For those people, again, we ain't watching the same sport. And the name calling doesn't change that... The vitriol and projection... it's off the effing charts with these people.
    • "Well you see if you remove this terrible game that terrible game this other terrible game and then focus on these games you'll see he's actually one of the better QB's in the league and he's actually as good as Jayden Daniels". My god this place is delusional. I love it.
