Don't look for a big move to replace Josh Norman

This was done out of pride. It looks as if Gettleman thought Norman would hit the market, be laughed at, and come running back with his tail between his legs. Instead a 4th of the league and likely much more have shown interest.

Source?

That's a silly assumption anyway.  There's been a lot of talk this morning about his agent causing all of this mess, but even that is assumption, until there's a good source.  We don't know what the reasoning was, but I highly doubt Gettleman is going to let his pride get in the way of winning.  There's something else...

As a nickel, yeah. Totally different position with more responsibility. I don't remember many miscues on the way outside.

Yeah, Bene was much more highly rated by PFF and B/R in 2014 when he was playing outside than when he was playing nickel in 2015.  He along with Star and Ed Dickson were, I think, the 3 players with the biggest decline in rankings in 2015, but my memory could be fuzzy.

For reading your post? Yeah, but that's pretty much always true.

Gettleman did what he always does, what he felt was best for the team.

oh look it's another meaningless no-info post from Mr Scot because his jimmies got rustled.

I like Bene, but he got burned like toast more than a few times last year. He's talented, but there are going to be growing pains.

I'm not going to worry yet. But after witnessing Cason play corner for us, I'm not just gonna throw on the Panthers shades and think everything is going to be gravy either.

The panthers are perfect how dare you question them

Honestly if there werent a bunch of stupid cliches this board loves recycling surrounding gettleman "hog molly! Tee-hee!" I think you'd see a significantly larger number of people willing to call Gettleman out on his mistakes.

We've had a large enough sample size now to know he relies too heavily on terrible players on the roster and we've witnessed it hurt the team a number of times.

Its a formulaic process at this point:

Gettleman lets talented player walk

People question this

Gettleman defends himself by churning out some gibberish usually pertaining to abstract concepts and how bad players will not be bad because of them

Bad players end up hurting the team and being cut midseason or simply not able to do the job when the quality of competition is good enough that the strengths of the team can't cover for them.

You're not important enough to do that.

It was more just a drive by, and an understandable one given that - as is well known - you're hardly ever right about much of anything.

PFF heaped a ton of praise on him for his play on the outside when he finally got the start there in 2014

I think Cortez Allen is a guy we would likely think about bringing in. 27 year old CB who was just recently cut by the Steelers for underperforming on a big contract he signed with them. Hasn't been very good recently but he has in the past and given the lack of other options in FA at the position and lack of depth at CB on the team, he could be a good option.

Alan Ball is also still out there and Gettleman tried to sign him last year before he ultimately chose to go to the Bears.

Both should be pretty cheap. Allen would cost a bit more, but I can't imagine it would be more than $2M. Allen also wouldn't have any effect on compensatory picks because he was released.

Oh please Scot don't retreat to your foxhole now.

You've thrown a juvenile tantrum everytime I dare call out your beloved master.

"uhh I don't care, I don't care at all"

Now come on, let's hear another one of those awful attempts at a cutdown so I can giggle and snark.

"you say, uh, things that are not true Growl! Yeah. Take that!"

more options may become available when teams cut down to 53

Then you're bringing in a guy who hasn't been with the team during preseason and will have to learn a new system. We've done it before with a couple guys in Dave's first year but I believe the preference would always be to have a guy throughout training camp and preseason.
