"We wanted to make sure it got to him, so every time he ran, we wanted to put a helmet or shoulder pad on him, and if he's not going to slide, then we're really going to put something on you," Ward said. "We've seen him limping throughout the game. That running stuff, you can't do that all game with your quarterback."

Yes, he refers to Cam as a runner but he still admits that the broncos first priority when can runs is to hurt him.

If there are no fine for the broncos, as a team, or at least one of the coaches player safety is officially ended.

He didn't admit to anything.

What he is doing is laying out the classic defense of the bs his team did.  They put all the focus on the legal plays and right football mindset.  No one has an issue with the mindset of hitting Cam as a runner and trying to discourage it.

What he did was to attempt to shift the discussion/focus and is the go to "talking point" of all dirty defenses.

And other teams will take note and do the same thing.

Look, the Carolina Panthers, with their NFL shield at midfield rather than a team logo; with their long-standing, but enough is e-fugging-nough gratitude and benevolence to the league; with their goody-two-shoes approach and team culture as established by their owner, is a milquetoast, pushover football team.

They do not have a nasty streak and the first inkling that a player on the team can be a game-influencing bad-ass, that player will be gone in short order.

They do not have a coach who will hammer the officials for not doing their job. They have a coach who stand by and stoically witness his QB getting the poo knocked out of him, watch other players get called for BS penalties... and Greg Olsen has to go argue his own case to the refs... thanks for having my back, coach.

So, while the adults on the street will play, "My kid can beat u your kid," the Carolina Panthers can either stand up and learn how to fight or continue to be a punching bag. And being a punching bag following a 15-1 season when everyone is already coming for you doesn't sound like a very good idea.
