It is absolutely shitting on the spirit of the Rooney rule. Teams are supposed to honestly consider minority candidates for their positions. The Panthers will not do that.

Well the Rooney rule is honestly quite silly and has been poo on every year with every team that has an opening.

Hurney and a Rooney rule interview.

Awesome.

Pretty much what we were expecting. They'll satisfy the Rooney Rule and then hand Hurney the keys. And no, I don't expect any additional candidates to show up.

Wouldn't you love to see the questions Tina Becker plans to ask?

The Rooney Rule is just PC bullshit. You're either a candidate or you're not and the spirit of the rule gets shat upon yearly because it's a dumb, face saving rule to begin with.

Rotoworld seems to think that the Hurney interview is just a courtesy to him and that we're not planning on hiring him full time... They're usually pretty spot on with their analysis though I certainly question it this time.

How does that desk suit you? Is it okay or would you like a replacement? The chair? PC or Mac? Paint and drapes... those good? Okay, here's the contract you and JR have already worked out, just sign here.

I'm just kidding...

Raiders did the same with Gruden.

But the NFL said they “followed” the rule

The best GM available will be appointed. Trust ownership.

"Ownership" is still Jerry Richardson.

So at this point we'd be "trusting the ownership" that fired a successful GM in order to rehire a guy who only produced three winning seasons out of eleven and bungled multiple draft picks.

Yeah, "trust ownership" :)

Just to throw it out there too...

any good candidates won’t apply or want to come here with the team for sale. They don’t want to risk their career and be “fired” because a new owner wants the person they want.

Same poo happened when we were looking for a OC and hired Shula

Partially correct.

Jimmy Raye is definitely a good candidate, but he's only being asked here for one reason and he doesn't have a serious shot at the job.

No other good candidates are going to come because nobody's going to ask them to come.

This is just a formality so they can hire Hurney without the league complaining. The only way I could see them even asking for somebody else is if they catch on that people know this is a sham. Even then, it'll only be for PR.

For now, we're stuck with Hurney.

    • I really like the way this team is trending. Morgan and Canales rookie campaign saw them do some questionable picks but, they also did some really good things. Especially addressing the offensive line.  Young had such a disastrous rookie season where his confidence was nowhere to be seen.  You can attribute part of this to a terrible offensive line.  So, we focused on the O-line.   We then brought in several defensive free agents that were supposed to compliment Brown.  Once Brown went down those players could not hold the line.  2025 we focused on defense in Free Agency and brought in several good players.  We then added more talent in the draft.  I think we have competition in several areas where Vets are not guaranteed to be starters.  Our offensive line is pretty set with some good backups.  Our defensive line is going to be a war for who comes out to be the starters.  All in All, we are leaps and bounds much better than 2023 roster.  Canales made some rookie head coach mistakes but grew as the season progressed.  He got our QB, who was starting to look like a huge bust, playing with confidence and poise.  Now it appears Young is moving upwards.  Maybe he is a QB whisperer.  After Young started to play better our offense was fun to watch.  Morgan knows football and knows what he wants in his players.  It appears to me that not only are these players he's drafted really good and got great value for them, but they are also high motor, intense players. Our defense, in the past, was always the key to our success.  I think Morgan is building a great defense. I know it is too soon to tell but I believe we may have a tandem that will be around a long time.  It would be nice to see Morgan/Canales be in the same class as Lynch/Shanahan and Beane/McDermott.   I know many Huddlers will overreact, but I truly believe we have a tandem that will be around a long time. TIME WILL TELL. Go Panthers
    • I am actually really excited about this kid. One thing that really jumped off watching his highlights was he almost is too fast or almost over pursues. You can get away with that stuff in college but the NFL these guys are stronger and more "slippery".  Little things that can be corrected but he seems to have a motor which is always a plus!
    • Many teams looked at the drop-off as a reason not to select him in the first round.  Going into the 2024 season he was listed as a potential first round pick.  Morgan, IMO, based our pick on what he did in 2023 and expects him to play at the weight he played at Purdue. Morgan did this twice in this draft.  Scourton and Evans.  saw one stat on Evans that he had 58 ypg in one of his previous seasons.  Plus Notre Dame has a history of good TEs that can catch and block. Canales will 3 good TEs that all will see time on the field.
