Why does Wayne freak out when Amelia appears? Was that ever answered? Does he feel guilty? If so, why?

I wondered the same thing. I also found it interesting that all of the people he has killed come to him in the same way that Amelia does, although they don't talk. Makes me wonder if he feels responsible for her death, however it happened.

I know at one point he felt guilty because she was eluding to the death of Harris, saying "I know what you did" or something like that.    He never wanted her to know.

I guess that's possible. But it felt like something else was there. Especially because we were never told how she died.

I think he's just haunted by her, and it literally scares him.

The ending was meh to me. I think the whole season could have easily been a two hour movie.

I felt like the whole "this kid loved her a lot back then and ended up finding her, recognizing her, and marrying her, and having the whole nunnery cover it up" and all that was a cheap out. I wanted it to be darker, I think.

I did like the concept of Hays basically tracking things his whole life, both in the war, and in this case, and even in old age. That was a good part. All the acting was great too.

Pizzolatto said in an article that nothing nefarious happened they just ran out of time.    There was an extended scene showing them in 2013 planning a vacation and whatnot that didn't make it in.    So probably something like cancer or something.    More info here:

True Detective has always been a show thats driven by the amazing acting....i know Mahershala Ali was the draw but Stephen dorff was the best part of this show.

I thought they both did really well. Dorff should have a lot of roles come from this.

I can't agree with you there. While Dorff played his part perfectly he didn't have THAT SCENE. Ali had multiple. Now perhaps that's the fault of the writer's but I definitely wanted to see a love scene with Roland and Tommy. I felt like that was missing.

by haunted, I mean that he both really misses her, and really regrets the way he handled some things with her while she was alive...

not haunted in an actual ghost/spiritual way btw...

I understand. Especially because the poor guys had a few screws loose too with the dementia. He probably was wondering if what he was actually seeing was real at times. Dementia is scary. I'm an epileptic so I've experienced some of this stuff first hand.

It's weird that everyone wants something dark and mysterious when that is what most shows/movies tend to hit on (other than the mentioned Hallmark movies lol).     Decades ago I'd be on the same page because stuff was getting wrapped up in a neat bow and then Sopranos ended and people lost their minds but then got more used to it and craved it.     To me, I feel it's sort of refreshing at this point that something DID end like that.     The show for me was about the journey and the character progression, the relationship of Wayne/Amelia and the friendship/bond of Wayne/Roland.     Obviously the case was there but I think it took a backseat to those things, for me at least.

I think that is maybe one of the saddest parts of the show is that Roland and Tom never were able to be a couple, the times and the location in the country.    They were both lonely, Roland I'm guessing his whole life in that regard.

    • Yep Dallas will have home advantage against the Canes if they meet up. Also tomorrow if the Canucks beat the jets in regulation or OT (excluding shootout) they would also have home advantage over the Canes due to same points but more regulation wins (RW) or regulation overtime wins (ROW). Canes play well away so I don’t see this as a big factor.
