Well... #1000 Cam Thread

Ok I was going to post this as a response to another thread. But putting it out there as it’s own entity seems like the only fitting thing to do.

Cam isn’t done. I have no idea why everyone suddenly wants to get rid of our star QB two games into a season after major throwing arm shoulder surgery. People can say oh it is or isn’t the shoulder/foot all they want. The truth is...

Cam hasn’t been in true game shape physically or mentally for almost a year. He didn’t get any playtime in the preseason and he doesn’t get pressure in practice. Cam needs to sit down on this time off, reorient his brain to the things he can do best.

I think we are in a season where each game Cam plays is only going to get progressively better. It will take time. Everyone needs to understand that. It’s been a long time since we had an “actual” win according to a lot of people. But this is a new season. We are 0-2, not 0-16.

If you are going to critique Cam, do so on the finer points, don’t just armchair say he’s done.

I go by what my eyeballs tell me - and they are telling me that this QB that we have today is but a mere shell of his former self.  No exuberance, no swag, no passion.  Just listless, off target throws, sack, hits in the pocket and losses.  Good times.

so you're a sports psychologist and sports medicine doctor combined as one.... Thanks... I have two eyes and millions of others do, the strength is there but there is no accuracy, he's never had that as a finer point in his game

Omg Tom Brady had two shitty games! He’s DONE FOREVER. How many times has that ever been said?

Get over yourself.

Cam's either injured or he's terrible.  Either way, he's not a NFL caliber QB at the moment.  He looks slow and lethargic and I think he's injured.

Shame on Hurney for not getting a solid back up QB.  They could have had Brian Hoyer which would be a perfect QB to play until Cam can heal.

His shoulder is fine.  Excuses excuses.  He had plenty of zip on the ball and got the ball down field just fine.  His accuracy is garbage.  The only reason people have overlooked it in the past is because he ran the ball so well.  Now he looks AND runs like Madea, so he can't hide his fatal flaw anymore.

I'm not sure his shoulder is fine.  Those deep throws were all short.  His accuracy is definitely terrible at the moment.

Ok, I'll bite.

How about this:  Our QB went 24/50 overall and 5/13 on third down.  He missed WIDE OPEN receivers over and over and over.  Just a game manager QB like Alex Smith would EASILY have completed 35 balls last night, and frankly, we probably would have won with that.

The Bucs absolutely DARED us to put the ball in Cam's hands.  We did.  He failed in the worst way.

This isn't like the old days where we could say "Oh, he just didn't have time because Shula keeps call these slow developing routes".  Nope.  Norv realized the limitations of the O Line, and called plays that featured multiple options to allow Cam to go deeper if protection allowed it, or get it out quick if he was under pressure.  Cam had clean, clear opportunities to make run of the mill throws to open receivers and he simply failed to execute.

That's on CAM.

I think his touch and timing are just off right now from not playing in so long. You can practice all you want but game speed is totally different. If I am wrong then it's time to start the younger guys and trade Cam. We all saw how hard he worked in the offseason to get back to where he should be. He definitely cares a lot about being the best QB he can be. I don't question his heart or motivation.  He's just off right now

And that’s absolutely brutally honest critiquing. I’m sure had I watched the game last night I’d be saying the same thing. What it is not is all these “armchair I’m smart” folks saying we lost two games get rid of Cam he’s done and our season is over.

You didn't watch the game?

Cam was the best player on the team last night by far. CMC lost that one for us, we had no run game to balance the offense. it's honestly time to start thinking of another running back if this guy is going to get stood up at the line 15 times per game and then lose us the whole thing on the final play.

    • You don't have to go through every game and point it out as we are discussing his GWDs. You specifically called out that he had GWDs because he is the reason the team is always playing from behind. We looked at those eight games and only Miami stands out as one where he put the team in a hole to begin with. You've added the Atlanta game where the team didn't score a TD but only kicked field goals. You're not trying to change what we're discussing to fit your feelings re: Bryce. That's not necessary. We are discussing GWDs per the thread topic. We have also shown that your opinion that the team has had to always come back due to Bryce was proven to be false as was the claim that "minus one game" was his fault. Appealing to emotion afterwards by trying to broadly paint the rest of the losses in the same way just doesn't work. Where in the Hell did you get that the entire point is the suggestion that BY is more clutch than Jake and/or Cam? It's giving something to be positive about in that Bryce has shown the ability to comeback and win games despite the calamity that might have taken place to put them behind to begin with. How is that blasphemy?
    • His run blocking is making up for his negatives in pass blocking right now.  He’ll still have pass blocking hiccups, but if they think he’s a critical part to the locker room and team construction, you probably re-sign him and try not to overpay.
    • Callahan is gone McDaniel and Taylor are happening Stefanski is a growing possibility. I mean, they need to get an offense going eventually.  Could see Morris as a surprise one.
