The chicken or the egg?

In our case, however, you can draft a QB.  You use the $20m saved by trading Cam to sign a QUALITY Center, DT and LG.   Then you build the rest of the defense.  Daley and Little are progressing at LT--not as rapidly as some personnel experts here on the Huddle would like, but they are the plan.  They need time, just as the Huddlers need patience and understanding of OT development.

Building a stout defense is more important for a young QB than a top OL--'If you are winning or not losing, you do not have to make plays downfield.  You can run, shorten the passing game, punt if needed, etc.  However, if your defense allows 30 points a game and you are 2 scores down at all times, it limits the play calling, allows their stud rushers to pin back their ears, etc.  creating an atmosphere less than ideal for developing a rookie QB.

Bro the league has changed. We can't score we're not winning I don't care how good our defense is. Having a offense that can't sustain drives and keeps the Defense on the field most of the game is sickening.

More like in a couple of years. Someone is gonna take Herbert high but the guy screams bust.

That's the thing about teams picking high in the draft, they didn't get to where they are by making good decisions.

A couple of years it is then.

So many good players get passed over because teams feel like they have to take a Qb

You take the QB. First of all starting rookie O linemen gets the QB killed anyway. You might as well start that QB and get experience knowing they are going to struggle no matter what. But going linemen in the first or second means they will usually take 2 or 3 years to develop plus you still don't have your quarterback. If you want to be in rebuilding mode for 5 years then go O line first and ignore the QB. If you want to be a possible contender before then find the QB and bring in vet olinemen.

If the QB is a supercar, the O-line is the garage that keeps it safe. Guys like Jackson and Mahomes found success quickly because many of the pieces needed for success were already in place. Many other rookie QBs have come into messes and never found a footing.

High QB selections have tended to be pretty bad and a waste for a while now. The league"s top QBs are all late first lower. OL without question in my opinion.

Another chicken or the egg situation. Are QBs selected at the top of the 1st struggling because of their own play or because they're surrounded by a trash team? QBs that go later in the 1st are by and large going into better team situations.
