More stuff is opening up every day. Exactly what has been "shut down"?

The Bass Shack in Shelby certainly hasn’t been shut down!

Appears they deemed themselves essential and based on the lunker hunting denizens of da’ Shack making a daily pilgrimage...

...clearly they are essential!!

45 would be proud.

I never said they Chose to get COVID, it was saying that people already know the risk. They moved on. They still build, in same location, after a disaster. When the Flu was discovered, they eventually moved on. Flu was Discovered in 1918, Vaccine wasn't approved until 1946. Of Course, in 1918, lots of people died, do you think they social distance until 1946? No, they closed schools and social distanced, like we are doing. However, they moved on eventually. Do you not think with our technology and medical advancements and hygiene, that we drastically reduced the infection rate already? I believe so.

We had multiple flu pandemics after 1946.  We never moved on but our immune system adjusted over the last century to better fight it.  With our technology and medical advancement and hygiene we lose thousands every week in US alone. We lost almost 100k in last 2 months in US alone.  Now COVID19 is mutating and begun causing Kawasaki like disease in little kids and mass blood cloth issues in 30% of hospitalized patients and that was only discovered in last 2 weeks showing we do not know full extent of this virus but hey, let’s reopen and move on right?

Our immune systems are built to handle the flu.  Coronavirus is completely new virus which catches immune system by surprise.  The virus is extremely tricky and tricks immune system into attacking itself.  It takes immune system over a week to figure out the virus and begin to destroy it. Unfortunately, only healthy people have strong enough immune system to last over a week.

your heart is in the right place but this is incorrect. and i have been drinking because im doing rotations in the middle of nowhere tennessee so i will correct you!

the immune system is not built to handle the flu! the flu changes annually because it's so unstable. that is why we prioritize vaccinations! however, the immune system is designed to adapt to something like the flu. the damage is still done however.

covid19 does not trick the immune system into attacking itself. that is a retrovirus. this is not one of those thank god. what covid19 does is target type 2 alveolar cells using ACE receptors. Type 2 Alveolar cells specifically create a substance called surfactant, which helps keep the alveoili (little bulps at the end of the bronchial tree where gas exchange occurs) blown up. not only does destorying these cells make it more likely the alveoli collapse (thus decreasing gas exchange) but the infection causes more fluid to come to the site, which makes them collapse faster. fluid is the body's natural response, because it contains all the good disease fighting dudes. if you get a cut, it will swell.

but of course this has the horrible effect of further collapsing the alveoli and further decreasing oxygen exchange.

ace cells have a huge role in regulating blood pressure. they are found all over the body (which explains the wide array of symptoms) but primarily in the lungs and kidneys. long story short ace receptors cause the blood pressure to increase. that's why for patients with high blood pressure, we prescribe ace inhibitors like lisinopril.

as part of any immune response, the vasculature relaxes and opens up to allow more virus fight dudes to seep in. Per Pascal's Law, this decreases the blood pressure. Without the ACE receptors the body can't regulate that as well. Without adequate perfusion (MAP around 65) you are no longer perfusing your organs. Then you go into multi organ failure.

Just to give a heads up of businesses reopening here in SC. Tons of people everywhere. Went to the yoga studio 50% capacity and it was packed  with waiting list. Drove by a popular bar and there is literally a line running out of the door of probably at least 50-100 people. Ya you thought the recovery was going to be slow; it is not. The only thing that is going to stop this is a second wave.

A little over 100 cases and just two deaths in my county. Could you imagine losing your business that you built from the ground up over those numbers? Talk about heartbreaking. I'm just glad we finally opened up. I'll try to do my best to support any local businesses that made it through the lockdown, especially my favorite Chinese restaurant. One thing I do find interesting about where I live, almost no one where's a mask, except for the elderly, and yet, we have some of the lowest numbers in the state. Keep your hands clean, cover your mouth, stock up on vitamin D, C & zinc, and you should be fine. I say by mid June, we should be 100% back to normal, assuming there isn't a second wave.

Actually, now docs don’t believe that issue is caused by Covid. I’ll find the link, but basically they found that a number of kids with this disorder tested negative for Covid and Covid antibodies. They think this is the same autoimmune disorder (not Kawasaki) that has been around a long time and routinely impacts a small percentage of kids every year.

If you’re wondering why the news isn’t reporting on this anymore, this is why.

IMO the bar is one of the last places that should open up.  Its an absolute cesspool and being close to other people is half the purpose of being at a bar.

This is incorrect, and you are full of poo!

https://www.uptodate.com/contents/coronavirus-disease-2019-covid-19-considerations-in-children?topicRef=126981&source=see_link#H2030209649

The diagnosis of Pediatric Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome (PMIS) REQUIRES a positive COVID19 or Ab test.

Do not bother trying to find a link. This is from uptodate, which is the most pertinent source used by healthcare professionals. Whatever you dredge up from the depths of right wing shitsville is irrelevant.

Pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome associated with COVID-19 pandemic (May 2020)

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, there have been reports of children with a multisystem inflammatory syndrome that shares clinical features with Kawasaki disease (KD), KD shock syndrome, and toxic shock syndrome. Clinical features include persistent fever, gastrointestinal symptoms, hypotension, myocarditis, and elevated inflammatory markers (eg, C-reactive protein, ferritin, D-dimers) [1]. Many, but not all, of these children tested positive for severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2); none for other pathogens. Pending additional information, children who present with clinical features of multisystem inflammatory syndrome should be tested for SARS-CoV-2 and referred promptly to a specialist in pediatric infectious disease, rheumatology, cardiology, and/or critical care.

Other things can cause PMIS, but all of these kids tested positive for COVID. Some also had strep but that's most likely incidental.

COVID causes this, and since we don't understand it at all, it's super scary, because we don't know what's going to be the result of this down the line.

like what in the fug is wrong with people like you Tbe. Tens of thousands of various healthcare personnel are risking their lives every single day fighting his mysterious virus that no one knows anything about. Literally ALL of the smartest epidemiologists and virologists are screaming how bad this is going to get if we don't take aggressive shutdown measures. And you're just spreading lies and bullshit for what reason? So you can get back to your meaningless, boring, pitiful little life? So you can sit at a bar with a bunch of other limp dick Trump voters and bitch about Obama?

So you can keep pretending you're the protagonist of your own life story and all of history has led to you?

The right wing response has generally been driven out of normalcy bias, greed, and white people being told to do something for the first time in their lives. Also the usual right wing mega donors funding protests but that's just baked in to our society at this point.

I think the fatalism you see from a lot of people is just performative. Most of these protestors are the same "survivalist" fetishists who love to brag about surviving a societal shut down and they made it about 10 days.

I think the main thing we've learned from all of this is the next time a pandemic strikes, the reaction has to be immediate, it has to be federal, and it has to involve the national guard.

Daaam!

My both parents had COVID19 and they said it ain’t no flu.  My mom had it easier than my dad.  My mom had no fever and was just extremely fatigue and said it’s like her lungs were on fire... My dad fever would go away and he felt better then few days later his fever would shoot back up again.  His body was acting very weird.  They both could not taste or smell anything and had severe joint pain.  My dad got sick first... 65 out of 120 employees got sick the same day at his workplace.  He got my mom sick before showing symptoms. My mom offered me her plasma to build resistance... does it work?

my mother in law and stepdaughter had it. stepdaughter is 22 and just felt really sick, flu type symptoms, would feel better than would come back. never had the lungs on fire. sore throat, fatigued, fever. lasted about 3 weeks. my mother in law is 83, cancer survivor. she had zero symptoms. when we heard the diagnosis in my mind i was preparing for her death.

i think one of the major keys to us getting back to a form of normalcy is scientists learning who is most at risk for this. it's going to take time.
